The S.S Cosmos

Hello,
I've recently thought up a little plot to a level id like to make, but I have no idea if its really any good, so I ask that after reading everything through, you can comment and let me know if its worth following, if I decide to pursue it, I'll update this post with information every other day or something like that. With posts including update summary so that subscribing to the thread can inform you of updates.

Story

You're a maintenance personnel on an intergalactic star ship, the S.S Cosmos. You wake up to find the ship in ruins, and everybody missing, your mission is to find the people, fix the ship and fight off monsters and invaders that may roam the S.S Cosmos.

Starting tools

Gravity Boots: Allow you to manipulate your personal gravity to walk on walls, and the ceiling.

Temporal Wrench: Allow you to fix broken objects by sending the pieces to a state in the past.


Later on you will eventually become equip with tools to fight off invaders, and hopefully save the passengers before its too late!

That's the basic plot, and the starting abilities of the player, let me know if you think its worth continuing to develop!

Gravity boots is always a cool feature, and I'm totally seing forward this Temporal Wrench...
On a tabletop RPG one of my players had the ability to un-break things that were broken, and it created some hilarious situations.
Like, that time when a he tried to un-break a hand grenade...
Well, that was his last time.

Thanks for the input, im currently debating between using a sackboy/girl or trying to construct some kind of drone to go with the "space age"-ness i want to include, does anyone have an opinion as far as that aspect? (the drone would likely be a hover drone, which would then allow me to explain its ability to climb on walls via magnets rather than gravity altering boots.2013-06-08 04:59:00

It would be really nice if we could get a sort of setting along with this- I mean I will take a guess it is in the future- but why are they in the ship? maybe to get to another planet to retrieve minerals- maybe even water!And he just woke up? was he asleep in a bed? In a cryochamber because the journey is a very long one as it trvels through the vast distance space? Dont get me wrong this sounds like a very good foundation- I am not criticizing you! I am just opening your mind to what I usually think of when I am developing a storyline- yes i know you had a rough idea because you just wanted to see how people would consume and retain the information and feed their thoughts back to you to allow you to expand on that.
Always think of key ideas- think about the setting first (Year, Place, Midnight dusk- Space- Where? a Spaceship?
Second I like to think of a series of things that will happen- So first the engine of the ship combusts blasting sackboy to the vast vacuum that is outer space?
Objectives- you need to set some primary and secondary objectives- ones that are necessary and some that are for fun
And I would say finally think of characters and their characteristics
After all of this you must then construct a viable plot- then make level descriptions and concepts- Then you have a strong base to build your castle upon! These are examples and ideas of what goes on in my head when ever I think abut making a series or even just a level- I understand f you dont want to use this- everyone thinks differently- but I hope it does help, and fyi I think you should definatley carry on with this idea

I have plot and such though out, but the issue of the pre-plot will depend on how I work the next few days. I need to see if I can do a robot rather than a person, which will allow me to throw in a few more twists.

But if I do end up using a "person" i already have a pre-plot planned out, and an eventual plot discovered, part of the "game" is going to be learning what happened, and how to stop it / save your ship.

as for setting:
Your in deep space, id reveal where but thats part of the level plot id rather ruin, if youd personally like to know i could inform you via private message. Your ship is heavily damaged, and every so often the ship shakes. The ship is also under attack from invaders, these invaders will attack you, due to the heavy damage, the ships security systems will also attack you until you fix their identification systems.

Sounds interesting- I love working on Sci-Fi things and could maybe help with the space ship and any other level building you need. I haven't demonstrated any of my space-themed building on my earth (Except for Space Panda Starship; which is quite old) and I've been working on it alot, so I can help with level building involving science-y stuff and futuristic stuff. I love the Gravity Boots and Temporal Wrench idea- quite intriguing, really.
