Battle of the Labyrinth

Archive: 17 posts

Hello all,

This is my first post on the forums, so forgive my formatting errors.

The Labyrinth I've created is a battle/adventure map, centered around the mythos of the Daedelus's Labyrinth. Set up in a dungeon of 4 levels, with levels 1 and 2 being maze filled with deadly traps and secret passages.
45731
45732
45733
45734
45735

To exit the Labyrinth (complete the level), you must fight your way to find the boss key,45730
take it to the Boss door on the second floor, 45736
which leads to the Boss's throne room,45737 45738
defeat the evil Minotaur, 45739
retrieve the Chalice out of the treasure room in the 4th floor,45740
and return it to its rightful place on the pedestal.

It took quite some time to build the structure, and while I know there is a problem with there being so much similarity in the floor/walls/ceiling, but in keeping with "getting lost in the maze," I thought I'd stick with it to make it a bit easier to get lost.

Ultimately, the ranking is determined by how many points you gain, which you earn per kill, but also earn a nice handful for being the one to land the Chalice on the pedestal.

Please try it out, enjoy, and tell me what you think! It can be difficult, and you will probably die a few times against the Minotaur. Explore and destroy!

You must autorise the public to see your information and your level, otherwise we can't queue it.
Furthermore the name of your track is "the labyrinth" and not "battle of the labyrinth"

The key is on the first floor on the pedestal, it must go into the "key-slot" next to the boss door to open it. Not sure how clear that was made outside of the creators perspective.

It can take a little bit, but you start to recognize where you are quicker and quicker (play tested by family once completable/not completed).

Ok, i finished it. I hearted it because it's very original and i'm sure you put a lot of work in it.
But it is damm hard. I had to draw the map on a paper to manage it, otherwise i was lost.
For improvment, that would be great to have a chronometer, to make the key respawn at its origianl place, and to kanw how far the boss is dead or not.
Good level.

Thank you for your feedback. There are definitely a couple things that I forgot or didn't think about in my excitement to finally finish/publish it. I will go back and add them if there is much response.

Firstly, I intended it to be fairly difficult to go through the maze and take down the boss. It was never meant to be a one-off play through, but something that you could sit down with a group and compete/team up with (online or local). The maze is hard, but if you've played it a couple of times, you realize that you're never very far from a landmark. The boss in particular is difficult solo, but do-able (even without dying if you're careful/really good). He has more life and extra attacks because he becomes exceedingly easy with more than one person. I thought about adding a life bar, but I thought that would take you out of the "fighting the boss" feel and make it into "just another mechanism." But I will go ahead and say that he requires 10 hits.

I also thought about letting the key respawn, but considering the door needs the key in order to be up, that would add extra difficulty in having to re-do that again every little bit that would be more obnoxious than fun (in my opinion). Unless there is a "respawn after so much time unless it is in the key-hole" logic I haven't figured out yet, or until I figure that out, I would keep it as is. There should be a marker to show where it is (I hope I didn't take that off).

Thanks again.

The key is not a problem once you know the Labirinth that's right. But i have had a problem because the first time, i get in the boss room with the key and died. I couldn't open the door any more once i respawnded. I just think you must indicate to leave the key on the key-hole.2013-06-11 16:14:00

UPDATE:

Edit: did not realize that level link is generated new if re-publishing, so here's the new one!
https://karting.lbp.me/v/dzpx

I have fixed it so that the key disappears once in the "keyhole," and the Boss Door opens permanently once the key is used (resulting in no more spawning keys at the altar [as they would respawn if fallen into a death pit before] once the door has been opened). You also receive bonus points for being the one to open the door!

Also, I have added a spattering of bubbles around the first two levels for some extra "treasure." Honestly, I would have liked to add more (especially in the secret areas as a bonus for finding them) but the level reached its object cap.

Sit down with a friend and give the labyrinth a shot! Explore the depths together, avoid the deadly traps, find the vast secret chambers, and defeat the evil Minotaur! But remember: only one can reap the spoils!

Next time, you must publish you update level ON the old one. It asks you if you want to overwrite the old one. In this case you don't loose your like and hearts (only the number of race)
By the way, i replayed your level.Right now i perfectly know the level but i can say that the adds are welcome. For example there is now two ways to go upstairs, so good. The bubbles allowed to recognize the place better.

Thank you for the info. That will come in very useful!

Also, the level always contained 2 primary paths to the second between first and second floor. There are also several hidden paths to go from first to second floor, as well as many holes and shifting floors to go from second to first floor.
