Grab Sensor and Making Prize Bubble Drop

Archive: 7 posts

I was in a couple levels today where they had what I'm assuming was the grab sensor on the material and you would grab and pull and a prize bubble with the sackbot/sackbot costume would drop.

I'm curious how to set something like that up in my level... I've never really used logic before on any level i've created so i'm a bit of a noob. Here's what i've done in create mode so far...

1. Using a grabbable material I put a grab sensor on it
2. Took the grab sensor output wire and connected it to a prize bubble
3. Then switched to play mode and the prize bubble is just sitting there (LOL)

So i'm OBVIOUSLY missing something important... As i said i'm a complete noob to logic gate and microchip stuff lol. SO please excuse my ignorance to this.

If anyone would kindly tell me what i'm missing i would be grateful or even point me to a tutorial where i can read up on the grab sensor stuff. Thanks Gals and Guys.

I have to admit, I chuckled when you "connected" the output wire to a prize bubble. I don't think you can connect any wires to prize bubbles. I remember when I first found out I could stretch Tags on Sequencers instead of placing multiples of the same Tag on them, I felt like a noob when I found that out. xD

Anyway, there are various ways you can achieve your goal.

1) Place a Grab Sensor on the grabbable material and place a Destroyer on the material holding the prize bubble. Connect the Grab Sensor's output to the Destroyer. When you grab the grabbable material the Grab Sensor would activate the Destroyer and it'll destroy the material it's placed on and the prize bubble would fall.

2) Place a Tag on the grabbable material and then place a Tag Sensor on a separate material within range of the Tag. Place a Destroyer on the material that's holding the prize bubble. Invert the output of the Tag Sensor and connect it to the Destroyer. When you pull the grabbable material out of range from the Tag Sensor the sensor would activate the Destroyer and the prize bubble would fall.

There are many more ways to achieve this but I would have to say that option 1 is probably the best way to achieve your goal.

You've been able to attach wires to Points and Prize Bubbles for quite some time.

Anyways, what you described should work - it really should be as simple as wiring a Grab Sensor directly to the bubble.
When you say 'Play Mode', you do mean Play Mode, right? You didn't just Unpause - This doesn't work in Create Mode for obvious reasons, you need to actually play the level.
Failing that, you should have left 'Detect Sackboy' ticked, Cursor Detection to 'Grabbing' (Other options refer to the PS Move Cursor and such.) and not instructed the Sensor to require a Tag.

I'm still a Newbie myself but what about attaching a Grab Sensor to a Sponge then adding a Emitter on the sponge as well then put the prize bubble that you have saved in your Community Objects with the costume in it into the Emitter then when you grab the sponge it shoots out the prize bubble. Is this possible?2013-06-02 12:41:00

Seriously? Haha, I never knew that until I went and tried it today. I remember a long time ago I tried to connect a wire to Points and Prize Bubbles and it wouldn't let me. I'm guessing that it was a new feature added in some patch. Either that or I'm thinking about LBP1, that is if you can't already connect them with wires in that game too.

Hi Synastella. Here's a way for you.
Assuming the prizebubble drops down from above the player.
Make your room or corridor up and make a box containing the prize bubble above the player. Have the bottom of this box make from Dissolve material.
Next make your grab sensor sponge switch. Wire the grab sensor to the dissolve bottom panel. and there ya go.

When you grab the sponge it makes the dissolve panel dissolve, and the prize bubble will drop down.
