PC Gaming

So, uh, I already have most of you added on steam... but what does the majority of LBPC think about PC Gaming?

What's your rig? Your Steam? Your preferred PC games?

Is anyone planning to go PC only this generation? Will you be using PC as your main platform, or as an extra way to play games?

Is anyone interested in having a game night, separate from all those warframe games Clay and Co. seem to always play?

I play on a laptop (Its an alienware m14x, please don't kill me) because of my necessities at the moment, and as for this upcoming gen, i don't know, I'm planning on making a desktop just for gaming, maybe get a ps4 (but will definitely not get an xbox one unless they change their upcoming policies regarding use of the system)2013-06-01 18:59:00

Next gen, I'll PS4.
I play on a laptop as well, and games are unplayable unless I close everything else, and even then, it's laggy atleast a bit.
I have apparently 23 PC games.

A few years ago I wouldn't have given PC Gaming a second thought. But the awesomeness of Minecraft, the indie market, Steam, free-to-play games and Totalbiscuit's videos changed my mind.

Now, getting a powerful rig is one of my goals for the future. With all the crap that's been happening in the console side of the industry, a decent PC is starting to seem like the best option.

Not really. Rollercoaster Tycoon is fun though.

Rumor has it that the Xbone is running a modified win8. If this is true, an emulator for it would be easy as all hell to make, especially considering the architecture. Yeah. I'd get a good desktop... what are you planning, spec-wise?

How old is the laptop? I know some good low-spec games that you can play.

Definitely. I bought all of THQ's PC games for $25... why the hell would I go back to mainly playing consoles?

Eh, it's not really that old, got it late last year. I can still play games like TF2 and Portal 2, but I have to close all other programs, except for skype.

I already know that 2D games like Terraria and Binding of Isaac can play well on my computer.

I don't really plan on getting a gaming PC, especially since I mostly use my PS3 for third-party games.

Sounds like you don't have a dedicated video card. What settings are you running these games on, anyways?

I usually run them on low to medium quality, I really am not much of a graphics hog, so it doesn't bother me that much

Try turning anti-aliasing off. That should help a lot.

That's because mac's are horrible. OS X is only good for text editing, and other UNIX-based operating systems do this better.

i love the idea of PC gaming and TF2 is amazing, however upgrading it like every week is just a waste of money i mean my 2010 PC can still play games to this year and still would for another 5 years or more, steam is amazing unlike most companies it actually cares for its user and grants them what they want.

I think that the concept of upgrading your PC every week is something made up by console fanboys.
You can actually upgrade your PC as often as you want, just make sure you don't fall too far behind.

This.

Best time to upgrade is now, too. The closer consoles are to PC, the easier it is for devs to port to PC.

Well, I don't think that Macbooks have the power to play games, while the Mac desktops would be better for gaming.

You'll get more game-playing capability on Linux than on a Mac.

Mac's use the same components as PC's. There is no hardware superiority, as and mac accessories have gotten PC drivers, and OS X is again, only good for text editing.

This. Though it is easier to port to mac's from linux, then from linux to pc. They're both easy as sin, though, if you use OpenGL.

I'm kinda surprised you have that hardware but only a 1360x768 monitor. All your games must run blazingly fast, though.

I mostly play RPGs and simulators. At the moment I'm playing Ys Origin, Fortune Summoners and DCS: A-10C. I play a couple of MMOs and you might see me on UKCS sometimes.

I have another PC running Debian that I use for development. It doesn't have much in it besides a Pentium 4 and 512 MB of RAM. I love it, it has served me well for close to a decade and just refuses to die.

my pc just broke, but when i get my new motherboard ill be playing steam. i dont have very EPIC specs... i really want to uprgrade my graphics card to a 680 or 780 this christmas. (current is 430...) im also thinking of picking up an nvidia shield too, but i dont wanna buy one now and not be able to stream steam without the required cards and drivers and all that epic boring stuff. also, i only have spore (and all addons and a few part mods), halo pc custom edition, (not a steam game XD) blacklight retribution, tf2... and thats basically it other then some indie games (some from those choose your price for charity thing). i only have a 250 GB harddrive XD im also trying to get my hands on cod4 and 5, which i techically have, but my retard brother even though he hates on both those games wont give me them -.-
also, i use cloud game services like onlive (which i dont have money to buy games there yet, so i mainly live on the trials...)

Kinda an underwhelming sale this year. Only spent like ?5.

On the hardware front I added a 2TB WD Green since the Black was getting full fast. It's hella slow compared to the other HDD but it's nice that it runs so much cooler.

I also bought some Creative T10 speakers so I don't have to use headphones all the time. I don't like the glossy front they have and the volume dial is way too sensitive but otherwise they're alright.

PC Gaming I have already switched to, I still have my PS3 but I traded in my Xbox not too long ago. PC Gaming is flexible, a good PC can stay ontop of current games for up to 5 years, and it can usually be easy and not too expensive... The annoying thing the games for the next gen that actually looked ok, arent coming to PC- well atleast I will have Battlefield 4 :32013-07-22 22:19:00

Well, I play on my laptop more then anything, but mostly Minecraft/Feed The Beast. I also play steam games such as Terraria, MapleStory, and TF2, but have recently stop due to Steam taking up way too much space and creating lag for other games. Here are my specs:

Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard

Model: HP Pavilion m6 Notebook PC

Processor: AMD A10-4600M APU with Radeon (tm) HD Graphics 2.30GHz

RAM: 6.00 GB (5.48 Useable)

64 Bit Operating System.

I run all steam games like a charm, and Minecraft on standard settings at around 60-150 fps :3

I was gonna buy an Alienware M11X XD but then that decision faded away in about 5 minutes... laptops arent the best for gaming... (exept the razor edge and blade) I might go back and possibly get that M11X, but idk...

Yea, I get really good performance on this computer for only $470. I was going to buy an alienware aswell until I realized how massively overpriced they were, and how much better of a computer you could build/get for way cheaper.

Just gonna give a little bump, to let you guys know that I procured a free copy of BF4 for PC. Would be nice if I had people to play with.

Edit: Guess I should mention that I finally got a new monitor, too. Don't think I'll be able to really enjoy having just one monitor ever again.

Anyone ever tried the Oculus Rift? A relative visited recently and he let me try it out. It's a very neat experience. I tried out Minecraft and the Tuscany Demo with it.
It was a dev-kit version though, and it has its issues like the "screen-door effect," but it's still very cool.

I'd wait for the consumer version to come out before getting it though.

Yes. Considering I only messed with the Dev Kit version, I'd say there will only be improvement from here on out. It will be much funner when complete games are made for the Rift too.

yep, same thing, get money or play to get credits for stuff, nevertheless the stuff you can get with credits doesnt make much difference, the recruit mech is strong as hell and is outfitted with some of the best weapons to begin the game with... (im dead serious half the time I see recruit mechs as game leads)
