im not trying to get a spotlight or anything. im just trying to get u guys to make lbp2 all it can be. i just have to say that u guys need to have more variety in ur picks. there are other lvls besides platformers. you guys are stopping lbp2 from becoming what it could be. you need to showcase lvls with fresh ideas for this rapidly aging game. not just the same old platforming lvls!!! i mean u guys are in a position to inspire people to be more creative but you are just influencing people to copy others and telling them to stay inside the box making the same old stuff. i try to make lvls that push the limits and do something people havent seen b4. but people tell me thats y i dont get picked for anything cuz u guys only pick platformers you should reward people for theyre creativity not just theyre artistic ability. lbp2 should be more than just running through a pretty picture. which is what most lvls are in lbp2. http://lbp.me/u/shady0420/levels checkout some examples2013-05-30 23:39:00

Feel free to review levels yourself if you don't like the spotlight crew's work but I guarantee you wouldn't dedicate half the time they do to their passion. The quality of a level still comes first and if that level is a platformer then so be it.

Instead of blaming others for the community take a look at your own levels first, I'm sure there is plenty of room for improvement. As for the shameless advertising... not doing your argument any favours.

However, from the looks of it, all your own levels are based off of copyright materials (e.g. StarWars) which would severely impact your chances of getting a pick as it is harder to showcase those levels in any official capacity. Secondly, basing levels off source material isn't exactly "pushing the limits" and would have to be of especially high quality to make up for lack of originality.

Might seem harsh but everyone needs to contribute if the community is to succeed and if it fails it is the fault of everybody.

I've played a lot of Spotlight levels that aren't platformers.
And my hidden objects level that was picked is definitely not a platformer heh.

A little off topic - Even though you can basically make any type of game you want, I think LBP 2 is still catered to making platform games. It's a lot easier to make, though tough to master, and there are some fabulously creative platformers out there.

AND the main point of my post... I wanted to say that is an awesome animated picture in your signature WESFUN.

Hmm, ok. Let's take a look back at the last few Spotlights.

Ep. 112 (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/content.php?386-Community-Spotlight-Episode-112)

FJ's Music Gallery - 7 - (http://lbp.me/v/kc47te) obviously a music gallery and NOT a platformer
Yamataikoku (http://lbp.me/v/kc6z8j)-- ok, you got me here, it's a platformer, a dang good one.
The Alien Station (http://lbp.me/v/kc6j0x) -- a very well put together full of awesome platformer
Mr. Ratzinger's Calamitous Couch - Part One: Teatime! (http://lbp.me/v/kdt3ps) - a very unique platformer full of fun
Vcorp's Downfall (http://lbp.me/v/kgbt9q)- a platformer true, but have you seen this? wow!
SKY COBRA: Aerial Liberation (1-2P) (http://lbp.me/v/k9jjbh) - a brilliant top down SHMUP. NOT a platformer
SOL - A Sunset Silhouette (http://lbp.me/v/khxc8v) - a breathtaking photo gallery. Again, NOT a platformer
Gone with the Wind (http://lbp.me/v/khp7qx) - not really a traditional platformer is it? Thinking outside the box is what it is.

Ep. 111 (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/content.php?385-Community-Spotlight-Episode-111)

Power Up PowerPlant 2 (Tricky) (http://lbp.me/v/j6hbe4)- another platformer, but dang, it's so cool. How can you deny the creativity of this one?
Muddy Ruins (platformer) (http://lbp.me/v/k9yb8k)- dang my nose but this is a good one. I'm not going to NOT spotlight this because it happens to be a platformer
Forlorn Valley of the Fallen (http://lbp.me/v/k9nyj6) -- Ha ha, yep, it's a platformer. was posted in the showcase so it has a chance like any other level and you know what? It deserves a spotlight because it's awesome
Western Sack and the Pancakes of Destiny (http://lbp.me/v/hh18g0)-- while this has platforming elements in it, I don't necessarily deem this a traditional platformer
Electrical circuit (http://lbp.me/v/kbdn3e) - not at all a platformer

Ep. 110 (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/content.php?383-Community-Spotlight-Episode-110)

The Compass of Time [LBPC10 - Runner-Up] (http://lbp.me/v/jqnx33) - again, not your average run of the mill everyday platformer. creativity abounds!
Kitchen Runner (http://lbp.me/v/j0bccx) - another creative platformer that is just too cool.
Stealing Sound A (http://lbp.me/v/j5pb0y) - oops, another creative platformer. Dadgummit! where are these coming from?
The Mud Job - Part Four: Showdown (http://lbp.me/v/j58zkp) -- cannot deny the creativity in this one.
Big Planet Pinball? Presents: DRACULA Ver 1.6 [1P ONLY] (http://lbp.me/v/jy4-26) -- pretty sure pinball is NOT a platforming level

Now I'll be the first one to admit that the majority of those are platformers..majority, but you said:

u guys only pick platformers
No. We don't. We pick other types of levels too and if you take a walk through the past 112 episodes, you will find plenty of non platforming levels.
you also state that

you should reward people for theyre creativity not just theyre artistic ability.
first, it's "their" not theyre.
second, what do you think we're doing? You don't find these levels creative? Inspiring? Fun?
You want me to deny a great level a spotlight because it happens to be a platformer? Where's the fairness of that?
Here's how the Spotlight works. People post their levels to the level showcase. The spotlight crew plays every. single. level. posted. Then they vote on said levels. ANY level is eligible for a spotlight. The majority of those levels are some type of platformer though. The ones that aren't platformers, films, mini-games, FPS-ers, SHMUPs, Puzzle, whatever, they have to meet the same criteria as any level. If it's unique, fun, creative, etc. then chances are, it would be spotlighted.
Don't say we ONLY spotlight platformers though, because we certainly do not. And I'm still trying to figure out how we are "Stopping LBP2 from being what it can be." A fun game?

It really doesn't matter the type of level, it just matters how well it is done. However it is based upon what is posted in the LBPC Level Showcase within a two week period. The team has no control over what folks create, they just judge them worthy or not. The most popular type of level is platforming, but that doesn't mean other types have never been selected. In fact one of mine that was selected, though quite awhile ago, is no where near being a platformer.

I think you would be best to try and get more feedback to really get another perspective on your creations. I see you have done F4F, but haven't really ever gotten much feedback. I see a few pics, but like in your Star Wars episode 5 level, it is completely void of any description and the LBP.me link for folks to even queue. Some of the pics I saw, the level looks a bit void on content as well, showing mostly a background and a few set bits here or there. However I think the largest error is you simply wait for others to play your level and that is the worst crime you could do to yourself in using F4F. You have to be proactive. Go play other F4F levels. LOTS of them. Not 5 or 6, but as many as possible. Like 20 or more and give great and constructive feedback. I suggest even making complete sentences and using proper grammar. Don't just say "nice level" and think you're done. It takes quite a bit of work. Then and only then, suggest which of your levels to have them honor their F4F commitment. That way you can get a bunch more feedback to help you improve as a creator. ..and someday if you keep trying, you may make the spotlight.

Also a great badge, a great title, a great description and again.. leave the LBP.me link to your level so folks can queue it up. You have to sell it and make folks WANT to play a level. As it is.. most will pass it up just from lack of effort in your level thread. Feel free to look at any of my level threads in my signature for ideas.

Right now.. this thread looks more like an attempt to get your levels noticed rather than leaving a suggestion to the Spotlight team. Trust me, they already do a fantastic job and if it seems there are more platformers than other types. It is only because that is what made it in that spotlight. There might not have been any other types posted in that two week period or if their were, they simply did not make the cut.

To stop any harsh responses and for your safety, as you won't make the team very happy after all their hard work, I am locking.

The Spotlight team aren't focusing on any one type of level. If you read carefully, you'll see that the Spotlight team here only plays the levels that are posted in our Level Showcase section.

If you feel that our picks are too limited in scope then by all means feel free to pester the creators of levels that you do like to post here in our showcase...we do not seek out levels to play.
