Game Creation Finals!

Time for something a bit... different. I've got two members of the LBP community competing to see who can come up with the better idea for a game. This round, we're going to the community to decide a winner. Please read the entries and vote for the idea you like the best. Vote by posting the word RED for the RED option, or by posting the word BLUE for the BLUE option. One or the other please. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. RED This is a role playing video game where the player takes on the role of a female wizard, Nichole. Due to some rather strange events that are explained at the start of the game, she gains the power to summon dragons. Dragons that eventually gain the power to fly through space! The game features fully destructable scenery and buildings, so the full extent of the players powers' can be utilised to devestating effect. The story can be heavily influenced by the players actions or lack of action. Nichole often finds herself in some awkward predicaments, due to her commanding officer forgetting about the mission, what with being so easily distracted by other female wizards and his love of tasty snacks. Gameplay consists of this being a third person adventure title, where Nichole starts off with some awesome magical powers, which become even more impressive with experience. She can ride the dragons she summons and use various spells while in flight. Using the amazing power of logic and reason she is also able to convince certain enemies that rather than being consumed whole by a terrifying space dragon, they can join forces with her instead and rebel against their evil leader, thus she has the option of building an powerful army. She has only so much time before the evil Goliath will strike again. But there are other enemies even more terrifying than him, there's a rather big universe out there after all. ------------ Agri’s video game introduction cut scene: ‘In a galaxy so not far away, where myths are legends and legends are with the living; The galaxy is a cold dark place.. Unless exposed to direct sunlight of course. There is a crew called The Dragonairs, this is their story. Dragonairs was formed by Lt. Mooshoo, Nichole, Agler, and Vhaun. The crew has different roles and skills which complement each other. The galaxy is in trouble from the mighty Goliath; Goliath desperately wants to take over Candy Kingdom planet, as he has a rather strange obsession with sugary snacks. Captain Mooshoo, a swordsman whose weapon has been passed down from generation to generation, can cut through evil candy like a lightsaber through a pi?ata, thus being capable of saving children’s teeth across the entire universe. The sword has its weakness though; it can only be used by Mooshoo and that Devious Devil Goliath! What a cruel twist of fate. Mooshoo is originally from the Lylak Kingdom, which is in another galaxy. His father is a mad scientist who created advanced space cruisers, but many years ago went missing under mysterious circumstances. Believing that Goliath kidnapped his father, he is assigned with his crew to the space cruiser called SpaceTart. This is the highest class of space cruiser that mankind has to offer and can go from high speed to light speed within seconds due to having an incredible 8GB of RAM! The Dragonairs travelled across the galaxy and found fighters such as Nichole who is a powerful wizard. Her mighty Candy Cane came from the Candy Kingdom, which is the highest wizard class in the known galaxy. They found out their lives have been more than simply missing their fathers. They had a connection so deep; both of them were fighting to find their loved ones. She is now searching for her sister with the assistance of the crew. During their journey they meet an engineer named Angler who was trained by Mooshoo's father, he knows how to bring down Goliaths ship and armoury due to his knowledge and advanced training. Eventually they meet Vhaun, a mysterious character who knows how to use the souls of dragons to increase his personal strength. He teaches Mooshoo various skills that can be implemented with the use of his unique sword, such as the ability to become a terrifying Dragon Armour Knight. Vhaun finds way to teach Mooshoo how to master the dragon spirits. Goliath attempts to eliminate The Dragonairs. Nichole is kidnapped and held hostage, Goliath injects her bloodstream with demonizing candy sugar, in an attempt to torture her. No one comes to rescue her though, as it turns out Mooshoo is far too busy preparing his chicken fajitas. “It’s chicken fajita night!” he exclaims to the rest of the crew. He is very easily distracted unfortunately. And so the candy sugar flows through Nichole’s veins and unexpectedly results in giving her incredible super powers that no one could have possibly foreseen.. Using the power of candy, she can now communicate with dragons and summon them for assistance.' Concept art: http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a37/Blibble/lbpconcept_zpsd7f4bff3.jpg http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a37/Blibble/lbpconecpt2_zpsbb9c3d28.jpg ------------- Two hours into the game a second cutscene rolls.. Guy Ferris and Sammy Sarz run an interstellar food truck known as the Mars Bar. There a simple duo running a simple business, but word of their culinary delacacies are reaching even the frathest depths of space. The Mars Bar crew gets invited to cater the infamous 14 day long party, the "Feast of Bursting Buckles", on planet Notsodangerous. When they arrive all is well. The party guest would be menacing with their scaly bodies, large wings, whipping tails, and razor sharp claws, if had not been for the cheerful smiley face masks they wore. However, once the slow dances start playing, planet Notsodnagerous becomes a very dangerous place. The party guests tear off their masks and reveal themselves to be...well dressed space dragons. THe dragons attack and the duo must hunker down in their interstellar food truck. Little did these dragons know that they’re not just space cooks, they are mercenary space cooks. Cooks whose food is so good, it can kill. A space dragon’s worst nightmare! Guy and Sammy must whip all sorts of player created concoctions. The dragons are tearing through the armor plating, but they lack the ability to breathe fire. They are known as the "Misfits". What a bunch of losers. Anyway, Guy bakes some fortune cookies. Huzzah! He tosses one out to a Misfit dragon. The fighting stops and all is quiet. The other dragons gathering around as the fortune cookie is opened. He reads it, "You will lose the ability to breathe fire." *A collective GASP* "Oh wait, I can't do that anyway...Attack!" "Wait", calls out Sammy. She tosses another fortune cookie to the dragons. It reads, "you will all be able to breathe fire like the normal dragons." "Hooray," cries all the dragons! "You guys are actually pretty cool, sorry for trying to kill you." Guy comes out of the truck and says, "That's ok guys, we can all be friends if...SHOOT EM' NOW SAMMY!" Sammy pops up from behind and lets loose a wealth of cherry bombs on the dragon horde! They are no more, but out of nowhere, an entire army of well dressed dragons swoop in. The leader, Empty-Breathe, says, "That was just the welcoming party. Literally, we through you a party to welcome you and you killed them. So now we are going to have to crush you in accordance with Dragon Law section B12: "If a group of mercenary space cooks attack a group of well dressed dragons in masks, they suffer death by goats." That's when a group of robot dragons soar overhead and fire down lasers into the "Misfits". They snatch up Guy and Sammy and fly them to their base, Base Mountain. The cooks quickly realize that these robot dragons were created by the Misfits. They sought to create better versions of themselves, dragons that could fire lasers...However, the robot dragons rebelled against the evil doings of their creators and started a revolution. Guy and Sammy are now caught up in a civil war, Robot Dragons vs. Not So Fire Breathing Dragons. Armed to the teeth with Dumpling Guided Missiles, Lasagne Mines, Retro-Fitted PEZ Dispensing Lasers, Ice Cream Bar Infused Swords, True-Fortune Cookies, and whatever else the player decides to craft. A Co-op experience for the whole family. Finally fairy tale fantasy combines with science fiction! Faced with moral decisions: "Guy, that past is undercooked! The radiation could kill us all!" "It's the only way to put an end to the pebble factory." Then reading the red idea.. it is so well developed and detailed. Then again I usually don't like rpg's... but then something is calling me forcing me to type a color and that color is...... Red because, it's in my blood, broseph. Totes. Seriously though I prefer RED. | 2013-05-30 13:30:00 Author: Breezy-The-Pro Posts: 134 |
I've just completed significant research into half-thingies and learned they are so 47 seconds ago...and actually don't exist...which makes the Blue idea somewhat interesting. However, dragons in space has long been overdue, what with war birds and all. And I can envision space dragons obliterating half-thingy squidlians on a galactic outpost made of blue gelatin and duct tape. Oh...and half-thingies can't fly, so they're actually sitting ducks, and I can feed those at the local pond. :/ RED? Definitely RED. O.O | 2013-05-30 13:47:00 Author: RickRock_777 Posts: 1567 |
Honestly I think it's kind of sad when people actually put effort into something and someone who totally blew it off as a joke wins. So RED. Another example of this would be a dance competition at a local summer camp... Some idiot ran in inside of a chicken suit and just started derping around, not even dancing. He won. Compared to kids that actually could breakdance. Lol, it's ridiculous. Anywho, thought processes were used for Red, so therrr you go. | 2013-05-30 15:39:00 Author: Unknown User |

I got a lot of people spamming me to vote red so I thought I'd drop by and vote for the opposition, but then I saw the word RPG and changed my mind. So I vote RED. Things might have been different if blue had used the words eldritch abomination. | 2013-05-30 19:07:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |

The BLUE description is only short because it's representative of how accessible and easy to pick up the game is. You don't have to spend a bunch of time reading miles of text for the sake of a story you might find yourself not being invested in. The squidman game is instant gratification. You can just start the game and be entertained and blown away by the amazing soundtrack and highly stylised visuals right away. | 2013-05-30 19:34:00 Author: chatchito Posts: 14 |

Honestly, taking it from a view from outside not as a player, it does seem a lot like a joke. how do be serious with an endorsement of a game such as earthworm jim, toe jam and earl, and ratchet and clank. if those selling points were serious it would deflect from the game. | 2013-05-31 00:12:00 Author: L-I-M-I Posts: 611 |
how do be serious with an endorsement of a game such as earthworm jim, toe jam and earl, and ratchet and clank. if those selling points were serious it would deflect from the game. I mean it seemed like you just took it as an entire joke. Sometimes the comedic approach works but also in comparison to the red, it's a lot smaller and less detailed. It doesn't seem as well thought into. | 2013-05-31 00:55:00 Author: obcfamily Posts: 7 |

I mean it seemed like you just took it as an entire joke. Sometimes the comedic approach works but also in comparison to the red, it's a lot smaller and less detailed. It doesn't seem as well thought into. Maybe it was written as if to be placed on the back of a game and not in a detailed assessment as seen in popular gaming magizines? Do you ever read the back of a game and it happens to include a fold out giving highly defined details of that game. Or maybe the game description that was required didn't have a target marketing campaign for the writer, such as a pitch to investors, back of case(game) assesment, magazine review, radio commercial etc. maybe the game description was made for a radio commercial? If that was the means to send the message of the game, would you say RED was not as good, cause seriously who would want to listen to a 15 minute commercial on a game especially if your not into rpg's? If that was the target means COD players would switch the station to another channel....? Just cause the other one is a short story doesn't grant the assumption that this was the endorsement method that was required/recommended for all entrants. Or maybe blue was written as to be placed in a loading screen on such websites as Newgrounds.com | 2013-05-31 01:17:00 Author: L-I-M-I Posts: 611 |

Red. Not because it as an absurdly long explanation, but because its a role playing game. I do think it could use some better presentation. Seems like there was too much written there. Just a brief explanation and the concept art would go a long way. A little tip if you have another battle like this. Anyway I look forward to playing these two games. Yes, blue its too late to turn this into a joke. I want to play as the half-man half-squid creature thingy in an epic battle of half fish thing. I seriously dont think this has been done in LBP. I'd just like to say a quick thank you to everyone here for taking the time to read the game descriptions and for making a vote. Few communities out there would have responded in such a positive way, and it's this sort of reaction that proves that LBP and it's community is still fantastic and a great place to share our creative thoughts even after so many years. Commiserations to blue. I would like to play your game, it sounds like good fun. Although I must admit the prospect of having a game being downloaded directly to my brain is a slightly terrifying one. But I'm sure in fifty years time the kids will be laughing at us oldies and telling us to, 'Get with the times'. Thanks again everyone! Edit: Also the Red game was brought to you by the following team. After mixing up some ideas, the key roles were: Niki - Concept art jarreguin001 - Soundtrack ShoutVik - Story IceyChill56 - Additional story argetlam350 - Gameplay features Lt Fatman - Editing & additonal gameplay. | 2013-05-31 09:11:00 Author: LieutenantFatman Posts: 465 |

Only if you would have submitted your story within the allowed time frame, I wouldn't have had mine submitted at all and would have loved to go with yours.
