How to build a 3D room/warehouse (1 of 2 :-BASIC CONSTRUCTION)
Archive: 5 posts
This Tutorial will require a 3D layer Tool I'm assuming for this tutorial that you know how to make basic material blocks in the 3D layers. I hope you like this tutorial gang (sorry if it gets all tecnical or long) We will be building in the following layers (so you should make a few 3d blocks to fit these layers) - denotes background layers, normal numbers denote playable layers, + denotes foreground layers The Layers are:-.... -3,-2,-1,1,2,3,+1 ... A. THE FLOOR Choose a nice floor material (eg. wood). Make a 3d block 2x2 small grid squares (sgs) wide and make it from layer -3 to +1. draw your floor (say around width of the screen). Note...any material you place that is only in the 3d layers will break when you unpause (so you will need to glue it to a piece of matter or use a 100% dampening antigrav, or glue it to something in the playable layers) When you unpause the ploor will not break, because it covers at least one layer in the playable layers. 2- THE CEILING Choose a nice material for your ceiling, (A good idea is actually to have it different in texture from the walls (but the same colour) it gives a nice look to the room. Remember though, we're building a warehouse, so try to keep the look steely or woody) Make a 2x2 sgs 3d material block from -3 to +1, and draw in just your ceiling (no walls) to match the width of your floor. 3. THE WALLS A little more difficult this as you need to build on two 3 dimensions, and you will need to make sections. Lets start with basic side walls. SIDE WALLS- Think if your door will be in the side wall? If so we need to make a cutout for it. Lets assume we have 2 doors. One is in the far back right corner, the other is in the middle right wall. Start with the left wall. Make, as before, a 2x2 sgs block -3 to +1. Draw your wall about 20 sgs high (you may need to raise your ceiling up to sit on top of the wall). Slide the wall in so it sits 2 sgs in over the floor and under the ceiling. glue it to the floor and ceiling. Next, the right wall and doors. You will need to make 2 3d pieces to accomodate the door gaps. Start with the back layers first, so make a 3d block 2x2 from +2 to 2. draw the wall from the floor up, 6 sgs high. glue it in place to the floor. (notice, now we have a gap at the back for the doorway. Next, make a block 2x2 sgs from 3 to +1. draw as before, from the floor up 6 sgs high, in line with the other right wall. Glue this to the flooor. Notice we now have our two doorways done . Next do the upper part of the right wall. As with the left wall, make a block 2x2 sgs from -3 to +1 and draw it from the ceiling, down to the top of the doorways. glue it to the ceiling. FINALLY....The room is almost complete. Lastly, the back wall. BACK WALL- Make a block in the 3d layers, 2x2 sgs. This time make it in layer -3, but have it a thin layer on layer -3. Next, go inside of the room structure and draw the back wall. ldraw it out so it matches up to the backs of the walls already made. You must glue this wall to the others or it will break. If it keeps breaking when you tock another wall, select the whole warehouse room anc copy it as an object, draw the back wall, and paset the room over the back wall. and glue it. You may need to use te glue tool instead of just glueing, or an antigrav set to 100% dampening on the back wall. LOng as it is thats the end of the first part.... Next tutorial, I will show how to add effects and items, to make the room stand out. I hope this works...some pictures to explain the process. A comprehensive tutorial, but I think an image of the final product so people can see exactly what they're making if they can't envision it after reading all the steps would also be a good idea. | 2013-05-30 14:17:00 Author: Ironface ![]() Posts: 432 |

Hey to help you add images, If you use chrome (or torch or any other chrome based browser) click the image to bring up the large version of it, then click (right click) inspect element from the highlighted area, scroll down 2 lines till you see "<span class="photopos">" then 1 line down youll see: <img alt="A photo taken by sean88" class="photo" src="http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/f1a752a5db5749342182b4f302dc9305a16ea6d4.jpg"> so in here youd do [ IMG] http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/f1a752a5db5749342182b4f302dc9305a16ea6d4.jpg[/IM G] (without my odd spaces obviously) which leads to: http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/f1a752a5db5749342182b4f302dc9305a16ea6d4.jpg Edit: if you're still having trouble I wont mind sending you all the images and the image code for each in a private message to help ya out | 2013-06-08 07:18:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
