Torch style light
Archive: 4 posts
Hey guys, I've been working on a top down level for a while and I've been struggling to find a solution I'm happy with. I'm trying to get the top down character to have a torch which points wherever the character is facing. The spotlight and other directional lights in the goodies bag however all have a physical presence which interferes with the movement of the character (for the light radius and width to be useful the physical size of the light itself is larger than the character, causing problems when colliding with walls and objects). Is there a way to manipulate some of the smaller lights to act like a torch without making a massive physical object? Thanks for any help in advance. | 2013-05-27 14:05:00 Author: Mopkins Posts: 123 |
Hi Mopkins. To do good torchlight effectts. Use Lightbox likghts They can be unlocked and found in the lights area of the goodies bag. Heres a way to to it. 1. Make a flat triangle out of sticker panel and make it invisible (this will be your 'cone of light' marker) 2. now place a curved or straight lightbox ay the apex point of the triangle, this will be quite small and bright. beside it place another lightbox, slightly bigger, and beside this place another lightbox, slightly bigger (effectivly giving you a triangle or cone of lightboxes. thisis will give you the light beam your looking for. There are loads of other lighting tricks you can use. look me up and *** me online and I'd be glad to show you more torch effects. EDIT: Yes, there is a way. There is a light called a 'lightbox' that has no mass. Its in the lights section. This os excellent for doing a lovely effect. I can show you some lighting ideas for torches if youi like . Look me up anytime ingame. sean88 | 2013-05-28 11:45:00 Author: Sean88 Posts: 662 |

Cheers, was thinking there would be a way like this, was trying all sorts of complex stuff with the massless lights but couldn't seem to get it right! Should have guessed that simpler is better. I'll have a play around with it when I'm next on, thanks for the help! | 2013-05-28 13:02:00 Author: Mopkins Posts: 123 |
