So, they'll be relaunching Final Fantasy XIV (for both PC and PS3) for $39.99 on August 27th. I've never been one for MMOs, but I am a bit interested in this. So, is anyone else?

Never played XIV before but it was an unequivocal disaster upon it's initial outing that required it to be rebuilt from the ground up. The trailers certainly make the game look nicer than before but I'm not sure I want to try this. I actually played FFXI for a long time before it started to bore me despite the huge investment I put into it. Went cold turkey and though the game kept going along with more updates I kept myself from being dragged back into the rut so I'm hesitant to repeat history.

Ugh. Was in the BETA... They somehow made it WORSE then vanilla XIV. 3/10 would not subscribe.

I will have to respectfully disagree. I played the Beta and let me be very clear why I like the game so far. I like the world. Final Fantasy has a distinct setting that attracts me to their worlds. Also Nobou Uematsu has handled the soundtrack this time so the music is as good as the old days--well almost. The battle system is also MUCH faster and satisfying than the first version. That and the community is large--generally those points are enough for me to invest my time in an MMO. It also seems to try to improve the job system from FF 11, however the classes are a bit different. Dont expect to see the usual black mage and warrior. What I dislike however, is that is has turned more towards WOW instead of perfecting Final Fantasy 11 style play. I liked the team focus in FF 11 and the ability to solo is a great idea, but that doesnt mean I want to follow the quest-fest gameplay most MMO's do. FF XI excelled in getting away from this cliche. At the same time, its unfair to discredit the game for not being FF 11-2. This does make FF XIV a LOT more accessible. It has tons of tutorials and guides. It seems like it was made so that guys like Dapiek and I( pretty much everyone else with jobs lol) can just get in and play without feeling overwhelmed. Its definantly a lot faster than FF 11 and not nearly as brutal starting out. I am still in the beta, I will give you guys a more in depth impressions once I get a little stronger.

I am interested, not paid for an MMO before, but I would like to give this a try. Will certainly be keeping my eye on it anyway. Looking forward to reading more people's thoughts and some reviews.

I'd give it a try if it was free to play or free for the first month or something. I don't know anything about it but LieutenantFatman makes out like there's a subscription.

Hehe, when I first made a character I was on the JP sever. I need a ps3 beta code though, my laptop is crapping out playing this game. It does have some nice graphics and animation. So far its really fun actually. I dont remember FF XI being this fun leveling up.

I'm in and I have to say I rather enjoy it. Granted I don't know what was wrong with FF14 when it was released on PC but thus far I have had no problems with the beta. Plus it's the most fun I've had with an FF game for a long time, I haven't really enjoy a FF game after FF10.

Hmm, had a packed weekend, and some trouble with the sign up process. Finally managed to get the client installed this afternoon, but it says "undefined". Apparently I'm too late, for now at least.

Could be something with the servers. The beta for PS3 just started a few days ago from my understanding so I doubt it would be over. Perhaps it was maintance or something. I haven't been able to get online either all day hopefully tomorrow things change.

No, the servers are off until the next test slot, it said so on the boards. I suggest you catch up reading the beta forums, can't do anything else anyway.
