Luos's unfinished work

Archive: 18 posts

Its been more than a year since I really touched lbp create mode and chances are I will never touch lbp again.
That said, I would like to share some of the work me (and c_mckamey) made.
This in the hopes to (hopefully) spark some inspiration, or a last *gasp* from fellow lbp friends.
All of the vids combined is quite the lengty watch.. so take your time, or spread it out!
Special thanks to Dalvit15 for recording all the vids

Lets start with something most of the people on this forums might remember, Reh'Tahl.
Reh'Tahl was still in progress, we made some very unique and bizarre smart bots for various sorts of gameplay.
We even made a bot that is able to finish any level that uses a regular player. (within a few boundaries ofcourse).
Sadly he will never see the light of published days.

The next level in the Reh'Tahl series would be the introduction of Bah'Mbhi, a monster worshipped by the Reh'tahlians..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QH2CTHri3uk

And yes, we where even halfway of finishing the actual boss-battle against this cute little flowermonster.

__

Next is "FRANTIC" a spaceshooter/shmup me and clay worked more than a year on.
The ship alone was worth one entire thermo of firepower, as can be seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxVzftpwQbs

We finished the intro as well:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-W58YhsJAM

- voice acting done by: Acdramon, c_mckamey's wife, Foofles, me.
- Font by: Monstertruckpipk.

The first level was also close to being finished:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFIUm2SbFHM
- Background visuals made by: Fotosynthesis, Gfan2012

We even made around 100 monsters, some can be seen here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdlCnuFPkBY

This project was sadly put on halt as there was no way to put all the level-transfer information inside the score,
some of you might even remember I practically begged MM/Sumo/Tarsier to put this in.. but sadly this would never happen.

I can however say that FRANTIC will get a remake.. but as a stand alone game outside of lbp.

___

Lightmare

Then there is a level I have been working on for quite some time..
Its called "Lightmare" and is basically an ode to my father. (rip)
I cant say much about it.. I suggest you just watch it, I highly doubt you have seen anything like it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJdAYHVCW-U

Voice by: acdramon & Leklack
Music by: Unexpecter

___

To end it off I also want to post some random stuff I was working on as well.
- another top-down shmup with a killer background and upgradable projectiles
- gravity Wheel, a wheel that defies gravity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EE99QuWnRgI

__

That is all that I am comfortable with of posting.

I am currently considering making all the levels I have published copyable, not to end up getting them spam-published, but in the hope others find something in there thats inspirational or get an in depth idea of how my and clay's levels worked.

That said, I will keep an eye on this thread, and I hope all of you enjoy lbp as much as I did.
A really big *hug* from grump old Luos_83.
Spread the love!

If I had not seen the amount of detail you put in Frantic beforehand, my own shooter level, Craftworld Aleste, would not look what it looks like today. You showed me so many things I had never even considered trying out. That has always stuck at the back of my head for the past two years as I ventured on.

Even with the simplest tools we can still surprise an audience as long as we don't settle for the familiar option.

Whatever you decide to do after LBP, I am sure it will be even more awesome.

LBP is full of amazing artists and people and I?m no longer surprised by the greatness that comes from that relationship.

@Lous ? thanks for sharing your unfinished work with us. I can?t wait to check these videos out when I?m not at work. I have to say that you, along with many others are always with me when I create. Thanks for the inspiration over the years and best of luck outside LBP.

You really have some serious art design skills and gameplay ideas! Very nice unfinished work, which definitely have a lot of potential. It's such a shame to see these wonder creations uncompleted.

You've brought the LBP community some wonderful creations. Thanks for sharing your work with the community, not many unactive creators do that, and it was definitely awesome to watch the videos!

I wouldn't be surprised if I saw you in some popular game credits. . .

What a wonderful idea to do this. I've only watched Lightmare so far but that was completely amazing...shiningly beautiful! So sad it will never be finished. : (

Very best of luck with your projects outside LBP! With talent like yours I'm sure you'll succeed. Just as well there's Twitter so you can keep us posted. : )

It'll be sad to see you go my friend. Your weork is outstanding. Sometimes in life, we need to take a break from things, like lbp, but you might be back. Anyhow, good luck in whatever you do.

Its a shame you cant just make a smaller level with the enemys and less thermo , if you could it would get mm picked , it looks epic , dont quit i nearly did 3 years and under 1k plays globaly on my account and im still trying , will i get cool or mm picked maybe ? , im never going to give up but i only play 1 hr a day most days , then i move on to a shooter or raceing game , you have so many ideas and to not finish them would be quite unfortunate , look at your projects in a difrent light and you can solve any problem , took me a month to make a 21 room teleporter that is one way , the logic was confuseing the lack of good tutorials on the web =( , but i did it the level is nearly done affter being in limbo for 2 months You can do it , just take a few weeks off and come back , you will have fresh ideas and maybe solve your thermo issues .I will continue to support pepole on lbpc even if they feel at a loss ill try to help with advice ect .2013-05-22 12:36:00

Thats why I once mentioned having the lbp-logic toolset in other engines, they might be simple, but looking at udk kismet, almost all can be achieved with logic as well.
I loved watching your aleste work, both on lbp and on twitter, it inspired me just as much as I apparently inspired you

always impressive mate. what are you working on now?
Thanks Adi, *hug*
Atm looking for a job and other ways to make some money (freelance), and me and some friends (some posted in this thread as well) are going to attempt and make a Frantic inside the UDK.
We dont know if it ever gets done, but its exciting nontheless

And who knows, lol.. maybe I find my name in some other games besides lbp-thank-you's.

And it was always fun having you around sham, we had really great times together!
To see your first work and grow to the epicness that you create now.. Mind > blown!

I probably wont be back, unless I could make money doing so..
This sounds superficual.. but a man has to make money to feed himself and his family.

I'm on a train right now with mediocre internet so I can't watch the vids atm, but I remember seeing some of your work before and it was phenomenal! Your level from the LBP2 beta is still one of my favorites in all of LBP!

I'd be interested to learn more about your smart bots. I've done some work with rudimentary A.I. but it's been pretty basic and I had to tailor my level around the A.I. and put invisible sticker material and tags everywhere to tell the bots where they are and what they should be doing there. If you decide to make some of your stuff copyable, I hope you'll include the smart bot.

I never really met Luos in LBP but I always admired your work ever since I first came on LBPC. I do hope these levels are released somehow, but thats a little unfair to demand. Anyway, great stuff man. I'm sure Im not the only one who has been inspired in one way or another. 2013-05-25 23:29:00
