Mixing Life with the Internet.

Archive: 7 posts

For some of us, a question we get a lot is 'what sort of games do you play?' Maybe you also get 'what do you use the internet for?' It's the sort of question that gets thrown about all the time in schools, workplaces, and the internet, of course.

I'm guessing that everyone here plays, or has played, LittleBigPlanet before. This place is called LittleBigPlanet Central, after all! But a lot of people think LBP's a bit... well, childish. So, first question! How do you deal with answering the said questions?

Do you change the subject? List a bunch of games you play, but not LBP? Divert attention somewhere else? (your fly's down, dude.)

Or do you just answer truthfully and brave any insults tossed your way?

Personally, I answer differently for each person who asks me. I tell good friends I play LittleBigPlanet. I tell judgemental people I play anything from inFamous to WipEout (both are games I enjoy). I tell strangers to mind their own business.

...Just kidding. It may not seem like it, but I have manners too. To an extent.

I'm not done yet! Second question. Do you ever talk about the internet in real life? There's a big chance you do, since the internet's all around us, but if you do, what exactly do you talk about?

News? Social media? Webcomics? Sites you recommend? Memes, even? *shudder*

I sometimes talk about science news stuff, and webcomics I enjoy. Occasionally my schoolmates will mention my Facebook statuses. While everyone else is posting pictures of them with their friends, sharing mediocre memes, and bragging about having a 'totally awesome night with the boyz', I'm posting blocks of text about Donald Trump's nether regions.

...Going off topic, kinda.

If I can count properly, I've asked you three reasonably simple questions. I'd like to see your answers.

I apologise for my pointlessly short paragraphs.

I only answer the first question

I tell everybody, who likes to hear it, that I am a passionated LBP player

It's childish? Maybe it is. Who cares about that?
I have no problems if people have other opinions about "how to waste your time" ^^
I am 40 years old and I love this game and I accept the social responsible which comes with it if you go a little bit deeper and interact with the community. Do anybody of my real life friends or colleagues play LBP too? No.
Do they smile about me because I play this game? Maybe some of them.
Are they perhaps a little bit envious because I have so much fun with the game? Maybe some of them
Do I care about this? Definitely no

So if somebody would ask me, if LBP is childish, I could answer:
"If creativity is childish, then LBP is childish.
If having fun is childish, then LBP is childish.
If it's childish to play with friends, then LBP is childish.
If it's childish to jump and run instead of killing people in lifelike animated shooters, than LBP is childish.
If it's childish to use your imagination and build something wonderful and shares it with real living people, than LBP is childish.
It it's childish to live in a borderless world where you talk to people from all over the world, no matter how old they are, which gender they have, to which god they pray or which colour their skin have, yes my friend: then LBP really is childish.
And if this all is childish, I want to be childish too!!!"

How do you deal with answering the said questions?
I answer truthfully: Littlebigplanet 2, Minecraft, WolfQuest, Journey, Terraria If someone is going to judge me by that, they probably weren't worth talking to anyways.
Do you ever talk about the internet in real life?
Yes!
what exactly do you talk about?
If it's with someone new, I ask what they use the internet for so I can try to find common ground to talk about although most people in real life so basically, what websites they use.

First question:The internet is just a playground to me.

Second question: I tell the straight up that I play lbp. If somebody wants to judge me for a video game I play or some small thing I do, I do not want to be their friend.

I use the internet for many things, not just video games.

Sometimes I use it to work on coding, sometimes I use it to help me with my school work; mostly I use it to talk with friends, because skype is so much easier to talk with a group with then a conference call via the regular cell towers.

Do I really care what people think about the games I play online? No. I have varied tastes, so it's not like LBP is all I play! I play many steam games and PS3/Vita games as well. Special spot in my heart for nintendo as well.

I frequently talk about the internet in real life; whether it be about news, or in regards to a conversation I had participated in while online. I don't really have any rhyme or reason what I talk about, but there are some guidelines I suppose that I follow, albeit not very often.

If people ask me what games I play, I say- "Little Big PLanet, Infamous, Uncharted and Assassins Creed"
If Judgemental people ask me what I play, I say- "Little Big Planet, great game, Little Big Planet 2, oh, you just HAVE to try it, Little Big Planet Vita, awesomeness anywhere, Um.......... ......... So what do you play, COD? *shudder

(No offense if anyone here plays call of duty, I just think its very... unorriginal, Bioshock, however THAT's original)
