Level: LittleBig Apocalypse 15
PSN: JonMartin

Okay, before beginning the review I'd like to point out a couple things:

1. This level is difficult.
2. The subject matter is not for everyone (but is incredibly cool)

If you have not read my review of LittleBig Apocalypse 1-14, here is a quick synopsis: this is a surreal story-based series. It is incredibly imaginitive, is completely different from anything you have played in LittleBigPlanet, and has fantastic writing.

Most of the gameplay happens within what appears to be the circuitry of a huge computer, surrounded by thousands of mutant eyes. Sound strange??? ^$#& yeah!

At the opening of this level, you are in the process of being told a detailed story by the "eyes". By playing the rest of the series, by this time you're captivated by the story of a boy determined to cheat death by creating an "evolution" algorithm.

I don't want to spoil the story for you, so I'm not going to go into "story" details - but I will tell you that I was extremely impressed by the story-telling. JonMartin writes like a seasoned pro.

Before writing this review, I actually completed the level 3 times. One thing really interesting happened on the third time:

I was walking along and was about to jump over a specific area (to go the OBVIOUS way through the game) and said "hey, think I'll just fall down there instead and see what happens". So I dropped down to an area I couldn't see.

Suddenly I was trapped and the only thing I could do was fall onto some electrified matter. So, I dropped down.....

The camera panned over to one of the eyes who said "All this talk has us thinking about death as well, Sackboy... death is a curious thing indead..." When I closed the text bubble the electrified area underneath me opened and I dropped into a secret area!

Each time I play these levels I get these little experiences that I carry with me for a few days. I end up thinking about them. It's probably why I personally don't mind the difficulty level of the games - I always want to know what happens next, and the sometimes frustrating gameplay seems to add to the ambience.

So, I'm personally going to give this level a 4.5 out of 5. I know there will be those that disagree with me, but believe me - if this is your type of game, you absolutely don't want to miss it. If you are a fan of the series you won't be disappointed.

Yes, definately a great series. But just like a good movie, you probably want to work through all of them to get the whole story.2009-02-07 16:00:00
