That's a great poem, Elliot is undoubtebly a master. I am a poet myself and there are quite a few poets whose work I really admire but particularly Pablo Neruda and Walt Whitman. Neruda's "Ode to an Atom" is a masterpiece that everyone should read.

i think jack johnson is a poet in a way. I love all of his work, but actually poetry i need to think i have a couple favorites.
Read his lyrics for Angel greatest thing

Angel- Jack Johnson

I got an Angel
She doesn't wear any wings,
She wears a heart that could melt my own
She wears a smile that could make me want to sing.

She gives me presents with her presence alone,
she gives me everything i could wish for
she gives me kisses on the lips just for coming home,

She could make Angels
Seen her with my own eyes
You've got to be careful when you've got good love
Because those angels will just keep on multiplying

But your so busy changing the world
Just one smile and you could change all of mine
We share the same sole Ohh Ohh Ohh Ohh
Share the same soul Ohh Ohh Ohh Ohh(X4)
Mmmm, Mmmm
(and yes i do in fact know the lyrics by heart)

I don't have much experience with poetry beyond what I learned during the Leaving Cert. We did a good few poets though, Yeats was probably my favourite. I loved "Sailing to Byzantium".

Elizabeth Bishop was another favourite and even though her poetry is quite dark and depressing, Sylvia Plath was another that I really liked. I guess it was a bit of a dark time in my life and I guess I identified with her... I hope that doesn't sound pretentious.

The thing is though that when I read poetry I find it incredibly difficult to understand what they are talking about without a book or a teacher to tell me. So I don't read poetry much even though I loved learning and writing essays about it in school.

Meditations on Turning Eight
by Lisa Simpson

I had a cat named Snowball
She died! She died!
Mom said she was sleeping
She lied! She lied!
Why oh why is my cat dead?
Couldn't that Chrysler hit me instead?
I had a hamster named Snuffy
He died...
(at this point, Homer interrupts and the rest of the poem is unheard)

Stewie Griffin

"Oh, squiggly line in my eye fluid.

I see you there, lurking on the periphery of my vision.

But when I try to look at you, you scurry away.

Are you shy, squiggly line?

Why only when I ignore you do you return to the centre of my eye?

Oh, squiggly line, it's all right. You are forgiven."

Both masterpieces in there own right, I'm sure you'll agree
