I don't hate my current Job, but I've had some horrible ones in the past...
I used to work in a slaughterhouse cleaning carcasses...
12-14 hour workdays, 6 days a week. I spent the entire day on my feet, scrubbing the insides of sheep and cutting off gut-residue.

It was Disgusting, Hard, Boring and terribly depressing.

I also used to work at a dairy plant at various positions. One time I got charged with cleaning this massive dry powder machine that took up an entire warehouse. At one point I had to crawl into the machine, while it was running, with a hose to dislodge something that had gotten stuck in the machinery.
That kinda sucked... Not as bad as the slaughterhouse, though.

Not only was I a waiter, I was a waiter at a Redlobster, in the most redneck backwards town in the southeast! soo yea, had alot of funny experiences with the customers there...

Random Redneck "Hey Boy! These Shrimp Aint even Fried!"
Me "Umm Sir you ordered the GRILLED garlic jumbo shrimp."
Random Redneck "Yea and Yall Didnt even Fry tha **** Things!"
Me "Yes sir, we usually dont fry grilled shrimp, maybe if you had ordered them right I would help you out."

Wait till you cook it for them, less interacting with them, more wanting to injure them, as even more work goes into the food before they send it back for entirely arbitrary reasons. And I mean cook, not grill or fry, Micky D's and their ilk do not count as "cooking" for this example. (or many others IMO)2009-01-26 07:41:00

I am underpaid in my job. VERY underpaid. I also have to listen to people all day and take my work home with me all the time. Its Boring, REALLY tedious with people getting on your back and just TERRIBLE. Oh, I'm a student .2009-01-26 16:05:00

I actually liked my previous job and like even better my current one. I used to work for a broadcasting corporation as a master control operator, which meant I had to sit and watch several television stations around the country for 8 hours. Sounds like fun, but sometimes I had to watch soap operas or talk shows that were not interesting. Currently I work for an environmental consulting firm and I make CAD drawings for engineers so whenever there's no work to do (like right now), I just sit and browse the net.2009-01-26 16:24:00

I HATE my job. I just graduated from college and the job market for liberal arts degrees is pretty sketch. However, I have a knack for data management systems. Especially logistics systems. So I work with those all of time. The only problem is I'm always used as a fall guy if something goes wrong. Most all of my work mail is about some problem that someone is having, really because the higher-ups (supervisors and the like) demand that I input data one way, but in reality the customer requests it another.

Then when there's problem, guess who they come to to chastise....sigh* and doesn't really pay that great either. I'm applying to other places. Mostly government positions to hopefully used my more specialized skill which is research and analysis.

I don't know. I so hate my job.

I like what I do - just not who I do it for or the guy who thinks he's in charge of me. The only thing I really hate is the atmosphere of paranoia and fear my boss is breeding in my department. I get reminded at least once a week of something that would cause instant termination. I'm almost to the point where I want to tell him to pick a reason and let's be done with it then but I've been here 7 years (and he's been here less than 2) so I really don't worry too much about it. The owner still thinks I'm a good employee so "pffft" to my boss. 2009-06-19 19:46:00

That does sound pretty bad, Morrinn.

As for me...I'm at school at the moment (3 and a bit more years!). It's such an arduous, tedious, soul-destroying toil even spending one lesson at school. I hit a bit of an unlucky year - 75% of which are despicable, immoral, non-respectable, cheat-at-any-opportunity, slacking, failures-to-be. This means that the lessons go so indescribably slowly as the teachers struggle to get the message across to the bulk of the year, who will just end up cheating in the exams - achieving higher grades than those who actually put effort in by just copying out of a textbook. To be honest, with the rate things are going, I feel completely put-out by it all. If everything had gone at the speed I thought it should have gone at, I feel I COULD be in a job by now. Probably an overestimation, I know, but it's how I feel. I don't even get time to learn do what I want (making games), because there's so much work that has to be given for the ne'er-do-wells.

*sigh*

I understand dawesbr.

I don't know if you're in grade school or University level, but if you're referring to grade school...you're not alone. I hated school too when I was 12-15. It was not because of the workload. It was always because my seemingly heartless peers.

I was teased horribly in school. I used to have long hair and I'm very skinny so I've always been teased about my appearance. I used to get called "it" (like Cousin It from the Adam's family films). Or teased because of my grades or whatever else.

But now, that I'm 23, I realize a lot of it was insecurity in others and it wasn't just me.

But like you, I HATED the idea of going to school. I was even afraid to ride the bus. I was completely depressed during those years.

But I imagine that's because those years are so awkward, it was hard for most people.

Well that's good to hear Morgana!

Stick it to 'em!!

Unfortunately, however, I've only been working my job 4 months. :-(

Well my only experience of work was work experience exactly a year ago.

Worked for a week at a place called NATCO, they design parts for oil refineries on auto CAD.

They must've had simpeltons in the past because they gave me a drill to copy out on CAD for the whole 5 days. I did it in 2 (Once I knew how make lines a certain length it was easy); then for the last 3 days I made a video for the company to advertise a new oil filter they were bringing out and I got ?20 for that.

Overall if I ever get that job (they did offer) I would need sooo much Red Bull, I went through a lucozade a day and still fell asleep one time.

I just read CAD half the time hoping that IT would think I was just searching for Computer Aided Design and not Ctrl ALt Delete

I work for Tesco Kirkintilloch, and I'm currently dead because my knee's are messed up bad.

Staying out of work is good, but I can't do anything else either so it's all bad.

Back on point, yeah, I hate my job, it's there to provide pennies for my car and tech addiction, there is really no variation, I just shelf pack and tidy the bakery.

Hate to admit it, but I love my job. Been at it for 20 years now, for several different companies, and have always enjoyed the actual job of programming. But this most recent gig - of which I now have my longest career tenure at 5+ years - is the best of them. Great working environment, great team, and the best boss in my entire career. She's the type of person that people respect but don't fear - people actually want to do a good job and make her proud.

But in the end of course, it's still just a job and I'd much rather be outside playin' (or inside playin' )

As I read this thread I gain a new appreciation for my job I am the manager of a cash advance store (out of 21 stores we are the 2nd slowest) This might worry some but we do fine and I am not worried about job security as we make plenty to pay me and the bills. It is a bit boring most days...thats why you see me on here all the time!

Overall I cant complain, but I could use a raise (but who couldn't or wouldn't want one!)

I also hated school and am very glad I don't see any of those very cruel and insecure children

Funny but they all keep finding me on face book and want to talk about the 'good' times...I'm like what good times.
Very few in my graduating class were friends. I had much better friends in the 2 grades lower than me...those people I miss.

So I can relate to most everyones statements.

*Eww sheep guts!*
*Eww bad bosses!*

Yeah, there are a lot of dependencies there.

As a student I regularly did 16 hour days - I think the worse point was during 3rd year exams where I worked something like 220 hours over 2 weeks. My degree was very hard and the the University I was at structured the Masters portion to break you (literally). I.E Our third year project was a task that couldn't actualy be completed....

Now I work 37.5 hours a week and have all my weekends and evenings free. And lots of money, love that cash. I loved and missed the crazy social aspects of university, but working life is soo much easier for me.

Admittedly if you do a history degree (for example) and then go into a high-stress job with long hours it'll be different, but it's all relative.

Been a waiter for 4 years. After 2 years of hating the first place, I now work in my local pub on the bar and waitering too. I actually quite like it, though yesterday I had to work a 12 and a half hour shift. Running around that long isn't fun :| It was a big event going on lol.2009-06-21 14:20:00

Been working at the pawn shop for about a year and a half now. Basically sick of my job since there is never a challenge, it's just all about ****ing around and killing time. And half the customers are very irate and difficult.

Though in August I go to basic for the USAF, so I won't be bored for much longer!

I'm in school, but I'm working towards becoming a lifeguard for my teenage job. I actually have my Bronze Cross in a week.

I love swimming, and all I will have to do, is walk around the pool, and shout at people for running. Downside is I may have to go mouth to mouth with a man. D:

Also, it will get me about $17 an hour, and once I start to teach swimming (Which you have to when your a lifeguard.) I'll get around $23 an hour.

I've asked tons of my friends, and a majority of them are just going to work at Mcdonalds or A&W. It's going to be fun to see them in a few years!

I went high school -> work -> student.
I didn't, my job was easy, just mind numbingly boring.
Now I spend most of my free time getting decent grades.

I had a boss for 3 years who ripped me off in wages, superanuation and generally treated us all badly.

I saved my money built a good relationship with the customers and started my own business

later my former employer with his dodgy business went broke and was luiquidated I took most if not all of his customers.

I now only work 3 days a week and have 2 other employees who earn me money who I treat and pay well, don't think I could eve get a real job again.

The negatives are the stress and knowing that I am the sole person responsible but also control how much I want to earn and where I want to take my business and I am only 28

my resume includes

security guard
amoures truck driver
car detailed
burger flipper
mushroom picker
auction hand
factory worker
forklift driver
shoping trolley boy
petrol station attendant

not nesscesarily in that order

I'm a mental health nurse, so I work with people who are often violent, abusive, drunk, high, suicidal or self-injurious. Sounds like a barrel of laughs doesn't it? Actually, I hate it. I'm not really a "people person". In fact, I'm quite antisocial by nature and I often like nothing more than to be in my own company (joypad in hand). I'm also too introspective to do the whole empathy thing, yet I have a professional duty to support other people through their difficult experiences. I hate confrontation, yet I work with people who can often be extremely aggressive and irrational. So, why do I do it? Because the salary is good and I'm not trained or qualified for any other kind of profession.

Don't get me wrong though. The girls are awesome, the guys, however, are n00bs Hopefully they will be filtered out when it comes to higher education.

My hat's off to you man - I worked at a group home for a year and a half and totally burned out. I couldn't deal with the emotional component. I felt bad for my clients and no matter what we did some were never going to have any kind of improved quality of life. Some were violent and would act out against staff so you never knew what kind of day you were going to have. I don't miss it at all. Graphics work is much more mundane and safe.
