Switch problem

Urg the answer to this seems so simple but I just cant seem to grasp it today

what I need is when I press a button a lift drops from the ceiling, then the lift is controlled by a 3-way switch on it...Like I said it seems so simple but arrrg

Have the lift sitting on dissolve material out of sight.
Button dissolves material, lift falls onto a panel, and the piston under the panel is controlled by the 3-way switch in the lift
Don't make it too fast or the lift might "jump up" slightly when it reaches the top

Are you saying that the button intially brings the lift down to your sackboy...then theres a 3 way switch on the lift that control its up and down movement from that point on?

Because i can help with that.

Well, there are a few ways to do this...

If you just have some dissolve under a 3 way switch lift, well, the lift will just stay up there. I believe the piston won't move even if the dissolve is taken away.

What you could do is make the "roof" the lift is attached to attached to some dissolve. So it would be something like this...

Dissolve
Roof of piston
Piston
Lift
(empty space)
Player with call button.

If you have the lift fully extended it should in theory fall into place when the dissolve is pressed, but the only problem with this is that the "roof" will move now instead of the lift. So you could emit some dark matter just under the new position of the roof when the lift has fullen fallen, just put a timer on it or else it won't emit. Remember that pistons can go through material, including dark matter. The dark matter will simply stop the roof contracting and instead pull up the lift.

Another way is to attach winches to the 3 way switch itself. You can then move the 3 way switch remotely.

Have a button go to a middle system permanent switch which fires a winch on directional which pulls the winch and moves the lift. Have an invisible magnetic key on the lift, when the lift reaches the base have a magnetic key which detects the key and dissolves the forced winch movement, that being the permanent switch itself. The winch will start going back and forth, but a player should be able to override that movement.

There are more options again, but they keep coming back to the emitted dark matter system. The winch method is probably the cleanest of the lot, as a lift freefalling would likely look terrible, and the only way to compensate for it is to have it move back up very quickly and hence be uncontrollable as it would throw the player up to the roof.

If you attach a winch on the other side if you go for the winch idea, it will look a little bit neater as there won't just be one winch. This might also allow the lift to be "called" from different floors if you want to set up some complex system to do it.

You could also have the winch attached to a piece of dissolve which is glued to the floor. When you want to destroy the winch, dissolve the piece the winch is attached to. You could put some sort of cover in front of the lift and the player might never see the remote winch system.

Here's how to do it.

Have a piston under it and a winch above it (the elevator that is). Set the piston so it only goes halfway up, and make the default position of the winch at the bottom (it is at the middle now). Have the piston's underside attatched to dissolve. Have a mag switch on the dissolve attatched to itself. Add a key to the bottom of the elevator, same colour so as to destroy the dissolve. Attach the button to a perma switch, and the perma switch set to direction attatched to the piston.

Press the button, triggering the permaswitch, which lowers the elevator, and leaves it there. Now the piston has been destroyed (with the dissolve) and you can opperate the elevator freely with the three way.
