3D M4 Machine Gun Model

Archive: 11 posts

So i took a class in highschool last semester where we used 2d AutoCAD drafting for 95% of the course, and got into some light 3d work, and found I have a natural talent for 3d modeling. I finished the class with about a 105 average. I made a space station and a dining table in the class, and started to model this machine gun but never finished it in class, so I downloaded the 30 day free trial of AutoCAD 2009 at home and finished up the modeling of the gun, and here it is!

Its a pretty popular machine gun in videogames, I tried to pick one that people would be familiar with.

Im pretty much done with the modeling, the texture work on it is temporary. i put in the lighter colors to highlight details. My problem is, im TERRIBLE with textures. i want the gun to look worn down and a tad rusted. but i have tried and failed to acheive this effect. if anyone wants to be apart of this and has some texturing knowlegde i would be very gratefull if you tried textureing the gun. otherwise, just enjoy the pics!

They havent been rendered at all by the way, it would take hours to render enough pictures and get good enough results to show you guys, so heres some screenshots!

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Ive definetly thought about it. Im not sure though, I downloaded Maya, (a 3d modelling program more used by game developers) and im going to try to learn the ins and outs of that program, and try some character modelling and maybe some animation. but i can see that being MUCH harder.

Thanks!

I will have an updated version posted by tomorrow most likely, though im having trouble making realistic lighting. Plus im making a little scene around it, like its sitting on a table by a window, and there are vines coming from outside through the window, but its not working out like i expected, so i think im gonna ditch it and try a different approach
