A rant about nowadays "normal" games.

Archive: 22 posts

Blergh.

I downloaded Trials Evolution Gold Edition, a game i've been looking forward to since 2012. Now i don't install games too much since i don't have too much space on my PC, but still, this game was a must to me. I don't have money for a new PC or for an Xbox, so i really wanted this game.

It's THREE GIGABYTE and it's even lagging up when i'm just on the menu, even on lowest quality...

Seriously.

Back in the day, games used to be just 1 kilobyte and still they used to be good.

Oh, nostalgia.

Firstly, I don't think you're in a position to complain about a game you downloaded.

Also, it seems that you don't seem to remember all the crap of the before time. Most games back then were awful-we only remembered the good stuff. In comparison, games nowadays are much better quality. So before you rant about "normal games", try considering both the good and the bad back in the day.

@kala

You should compare TrackMania United Forever with TrackMania 2 Canyon.

Differences:
TrackMania 2 is way bigger than TMUF
TrackMania 2 has random lag for no reason

and they're both almost the same.

What hardware are you running it on? Do you at least meet the recommended specs?

Processor: Quad-core Intel or AMD CPU
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: DirectX? 11 compliant, 1024 MB video memory
DirectX?: 11
Hard Drive: 5 GB HD space
Sound: DirectX 9.0c compatible

This has been normal for as long as we've had PC's that can play games. Eventually your system needs upgrading.2013-05-04 19:28:00

I tried Can You Run It and it seems to put my PC just under the minimum of probably every single game that's on there.

Can You Run It isn't reliable in the slightest. It's just a site that makes money by advertising hardware products. The analyzing your specs thing is just a clever ruse meant to attract potential customers.

Look, games just get more demanding over time. They become bigger, prettier, and especially in the case of these User Generated Content games, more complex. Even downloadable games.

What are the actual components in your laptop? You can either look under Device Manager in Windows (RAM is listed separately) or use a program like Speccy.

From the sounds of it you could get away with playing older or emulated games at least.

This is why I generally stick to using the PS3 or the Vita for playing games. These issues are pretty rare on consoles and when they do happen (Skyrim), they usually get patched.2013-05-05 18:38:00

Yep, this is the reason I'm a console gamer. Occasionally I get a PC game but only a few run perfectly. I mean, minecraft? Forget that! I tried so many things to get that running smoothly that it just wasn't worth it. Glad it's going to be out on the ps3

Trackmania used to be about 300 mb and it was awesome. Now guess what, they've made a new version of it and where did those extra 700 mb's and lags come from? It even had less features except for a new race environment and blocks ands stuff.

IMO the only difference between consoles and PCs is that consoles are closed platforms, that only update every few years or so, while PCs are more open and update more frequently. Now, both have their good and bad sides. Consoles do not allow for the freedom of installing game mods and software the PC does, but are less prone to hackers than the PC. And having frequent updates means that better tech comes earlier, but older hardware gets obsolete faster.
But, in the end, all are computers, and as computers get better, so do games. As for whether the quality of games is increasing or decreasing, I do believe that the gaming industry seems to be reaching the same breaking point it achieved decades ago, when devs would churn out games at an alarming rate. But there's still faith in games like GTA V, Watch Dogs, The Last of Us, Tearaway and indie games.

It lags since there's loads of blocks, and loads of kewl options to make it look cool. It's still like just 70 mb i think. Not too much.

It's probably one of the fewer NORMAL good games that runs fine on my PC!

Minecraft might be small in size, but it takes up a lot of processing power because the game has to calculate every block in the rendered area, from bottom to top.2013-05-08 11:05:00
