Nightclub - My First Level!

Archive: 10 posts

Hi! I would've made this F4F, but I'm so busy that I might not be able to respond to everyone's feedback.

I hope you all enjoy it!

OK, I'm going to give this one a shot right now - but you have to at least PLAY Splat Invaders Saga when you get a chance (don't need to give feedback though).

Okay, I went through this with my son once and once by myself so I could get a feeling for multiplayer and singleplayer. Here's my summation:

Pros:

+Nice visual style. I liked the colorful design.
+The car was cool.
+Fun.

Cons:

-Too short. I finished it fairly quickly.
-Use of the paintinator - There weren't really enough bullets allowed to make it worth having in the game. I think most people will shoot it a couple times, run out of bullets, and say "umm. why was this here?". Doesn't necessarily detract, but it would have been more fun to just be able to sit there and blast the stars without being limited (in other words, don't tease me).
-The "shoot the wall" part was kind of cool, but would have been better if I had to aim for a specific small target. Kind of defeated the purpose of being able to aim it.

All in all, I think this level has potential. It was not frustrating at all, I had fun, it was cute, and at the end I wished it was longer (which is success - I ACTUALLY wanted it to be longer). If I were you I would just keep going on this level for a while and make it into a full experience.

I'd be happy to try your level, but could you provide a few more details such as your PSN name. I tried CrazyCartoon but couldn't seem to find you and Nightclub results in a lot of levels, so I was able to find you that way either. Let me know if you have a different PSN name. If not, I'll just look again, perhaps I missed it.2009-01-24 21:00:00

There's no 'r'. That's probably where you went wrong

I found it under "CrazyCatoon" (don't put the r) (just saw the author wrote the same thing. We are typing over each other!)

I'll do my best to play your level.

Thanks for the brilliant feedback!

Ahh! I was adding an 'r'! After removing it, I found the level immediately. Cubbage pretty much nailed it. Your level has a lot of potential if you can put a bit more work into it. The ability to pick your music for the level as the beginning was a cool idea that fits the theme of your nightclub and the sticker used to access it!

I also enjoyed the lighthearted atmosphere, but I felt you could do a bit more to give it a "Nightclub" feel. Maybe more lights, some dancers, a DJ, etc. I'd also jazz up your sections that use dark matter, specifically the canon and the car track. Although, I will admit that I found both of those kind of strange due to your theme. In my opinion, it'd be cool if the sound system was broken to the nightclub and you had to fix it or something a bit more nightclub related.

I also agree with Cubbage that the limit on the paintinator should be lifted and the level's length should be extended. So, my suggestion would be to take what you have learned thus far and implement it in a way that gels with your levels theme, like you did with the music selection at the beginning. Give me more of a night club vibe and I think you'll have a nice level on your hands. Good job for your first level!

Thanks very much!

I'm building a nightclub related survival level at the moment, but I've already made a start on Nightclub II, and I'll try to keep that within the nightclub theme

Any ideas on what the theme should be for the nightclub survival challenge?

Hey, nice level.

I'd love to offer something constructive but it looks like everyone else has covered everything I thought of.

If you're looking for nightclub ideas, have a look at my laser level. It's not a proper level, just a demonstration of using multi coloured lasers. I give away everything you see in the level as prizes (check my signature for details)
