Help with complex switch

Archive: 4 posts

I have an idea for a switch (and sorry if this thread was doubled posted, i had a little computer trouble).

I need help making a two switch device (one for left and one for right), to make a menu screen effect. For example, you want to select an object to emit in the designated area, you use the left and right switchs to pick one and a button to emit it.

EDIT: Thanks to Pinchanzee i learned that this is extremely complex, that was my mistake =P.
Trap_T created a much simpler version. Props to both you guys

Ok this is VERY complicated, so you might not understand (don't know if i do)

Y'know AND switches?
(As in concesutive pistons which when they are all activated, the mag key reaches the other-half mag key?)
If not, find out before you read any more (theres a picture somewhere in the help section).

This is VERY complicated and requires a lot of AND switches, so I advice either finding a better solution or building and copying an appropriate AND switch

STEP 1:
Use an AND switch structure (with as many pistons as there are colours wide - 5 in your case) for your main structure (what the arrow is attatches to which makes it move).
Attatch mag keys in this pattern:
Start by putting a green mag switch (with wire coming out of it) to the far left of the AND switch structure.
After the first piston attatch a green mag activator and a blue mag switch.
On the next block put a blue mag activator and a red switch.
Continue this until you reach the last block, where you just put the activator.
Set all the mag key activators to INVERTED and DIRECTIONAL.
Make their trigger radius's just reach their mag activator count-part when the pistons are IN.
Attatch the RIGHT grab switch to the farthest right piston on the main structure AND switch.

STEP 2:
Make an AND switch with 3 pistons (ignore the first for now)
for the first AND switch attach the outcome switch to the piston farthest right (which is now second to the right) on the main structure with the arrow.
Attach your RIGHT grab switch to the middle piston on the AND switch.
Attach your farthest right mag key switch on the main structure (with arrow) to the right AND switch piston.
This means (the second time you grab it) when the right grab switch is activated and the farthest mag key is seperated (which it it - the first grab does this), the second piston will activate. making the arrow move TWO along, now it should be pointing at the green square.
If it isn't you have done something wrong, or I have explained it wrong.

STEP 3:
Repeat
FOLLOWING THE SAME STRUCTURE AS STEP 2 but with 4 pistons on the AND switch instead of 3.
Once again ignore the 1st piston, and connect the first two like they were in STEP 2
Connect the third piston like you connected the middle piston in STEP 2 but do everything one along (ie, use the mag switch, one to the left, and the piston one to the left, on the main structure).
Test this out, this should mean that when you grab the switch 3 times it should move, one by one, to the pink, or if you hold it, straight over to the pink, but it will NEVER stop between them (assuming you got the measurements right).

STEP 4:
Repeat this with new AND switches, adding 1 on every time (you should get my drift by now).

Presto, should word (I'm sure you can figure out the up and down bit yourself)

I'm sorry if that's really hard to understand but I'm pretty sure it SHOULD work.

Jeez, this better have been worth it ^_^
It'd been so much easier if you'd've not been fussy about them not stopping between

Happy Creating!

Well sorry about being fussy about em stopping, i didnt know it would make em that complex, youre 10 way option switch should work just fine for my idea. Thanks, much appreciated.2009-01-24 21:02:00
