It's been a long time since I last posted here but I'm back for a shameless plug.
Mechanist is an industrial platformer that I a lot of work into and it would be a shame for it to go unnoticed.
I'm doing F4F but I might be slow with replying because I'm quite busy in real life.

Pics (Hope I do this right):

Very nice platformer with a lot of mechanical work in it.
That was an enjoyable trip through your level.

Well done

This was really good, the length completely makes up for the lack of detail in areas. I really enjoyed myself and had lots of fun playing it.

Posted a plug on twitter for others to play it

Thank you! Which parts did you feel lack detail? I haven't got much thermo to work with but I can try to optimise.
I always felt the level was a little short myself...

I must say I was very pleased after I finished this level. I loved the atmosphere and mechanics it fitted the mood very well. You did good mixing level design and scenery together. It didn't feel like a out of place object was performing those actions. Example: Those tubes/pipes that shoot fire. In the end where the lava is flowing throughout the room and you are running from it. I felt like that part of level should of should of had stuff breaking apart. Other then that I think this was an amazing level.2013-05-03 19:13:00

Okay, played it today! Overall it was a good level, you've definitely got a lot of potential as a creator! Some very cool platforming gameplay and visuals, however there were a few things I felt could have been done better. The camera angles weren't great, mixed with the dark lighting I found it hard to see what was in front of and I got disorientated a few times. The colour scheme was nice, but again the darkness mixed with the super-bright orange made it difficult to see what was going on sometimes. A few areas were a bit empty (such as the place where the tubes shoot up fire), they could have used some decorations and scenery. It's also worth mentioning that the lava-flow section seemed to break for me (the lava stopped moving and I hit an invisible wall so I head to kill myself).

You seem to have a head for gameplay, although I found some sections difficult because I couldn't see what was going on. Try to make things intuitive for the player and add a bit more detail to the aesthetics and you'll be making some seriously good levels. Great job!

F4F - Mechanist

Level Thread:
Short entry but to the point with nice picture spacing.

First Impression:
Nice ambiance and the music you choose was a great choice. This is dark level, but I can still see and then I proceed to jump forward into the hot juice and die! XD I?m not sure if I like seeing outside the level at the far left in the beginning. I think I would prefer to have stayed immersed in the environment.

Environment:
Nice use of the extra layers and the material choices worked nicely together in most places. The music throughout was an excellent match. There were several areas that could have used a bit more detail or action, but I can tell you spent a lot of time on this.

Controls:
The controls responded well throughout. It might have been possible to make this without the use of the grapple hook.

Gameplay:
The gameplay was minimal, but it had a couple of nice sections. I particularly liked your gear platform and ?bounce shooter?. I thought you missed out on placing more secrets or scoring opportunities. I found several nook and crannies where I was sure I would find something cool, but I didn?t get rewarded. I thought your checkpoint spacing was perfect and at no time did I feel cheated or had to do something too many times and rage quit. I think a custom checkpoint system would have added a lot to the level. There was one section where the sponges seemed to be ?floating? in air as they traveled in a circle. I thought they seemed a tad out of place compared to the rest of the level. I thought if they were on some type of ?track? they might fit in better. The floor explosion and mad dash at the end were nice touches. The cut scenes were also nice and short and to the point and didn?t slow the level down.

Entertainment:
This was an enjoyable journey and even though it was short on gameplay mechanics, the environment was pleasing to my eye.

Replay Value:
If there were more scoring opportunities, then I think it would increase the replay value.

Overall Impression:
Yea and heart from me. Keep up the good work!

Here are a couple of F4F choices for me. Unless, you have a lot of time, I suggest the ?LITE? version. Thanks!

Really good level. Not to easy, not to hard and well designed. A nice dangerous atmosphere. Here is a pic of my fav. part of the level;

I got to play this last night. It was sweet, but a little bland. As far as fun platforming goes, you've got it down. The molten metal chase was very exciting, and it caught me by surprise! The overall platforming had an excellent pace, and I'd say it was just the right length. I think it could have benefited from some more stickers, decorations, and superfluous background objects. You'd be surprised how much better a level can look just by tacking on a few regular bolts to a square of metal, and slapping a sticker on top of it. It's a very meat and potatoes level. You stuff your face and enjoy the food, but there's no beverage on the side, or any butter.2013-05-10 18:01:00

Very nice. I enjoyed the design of the level. I didn't mind the lack of decorations. To be honest, I didn't even notice there was a lack of decorations like people have said. I enjoy levels that are mechanical, so this was perfect for me.

The game play was very fun. There was a couple of moments that stood out from the rest that I really enjoyed. Definitely the lava section. Kind of surprised me, but it was excellent. Also, where I was flying through the tubes. That was cool.

I've made quite a few levels and it's pretty tough to incorporate all 3 layers into the game play. You did an excellent job with this.

Great level!

For the F4F, just check out "Powers, Act 1 - Sky Garden" (it's in my Signature).

Now then, the review; I wrote one in-game, but we all know writing in the forum is better:
I loved it from the moment I popped out of that checkpoint. It's got a really nice atmosphere, a nice look, and a nice theme. Basically, immersion was perfect. The challenge was also never bad. It wasn't completely easy OR frustrating, and the platforming was really interesting; constantly integrated into the theme of the level, like those gears turning with the platform on it. But...

I only wish it was longer! I'd love a sequel. Keep your levels like this: Themed, interesting and atmospheric. I say, it was excellent.

I thought you did a great job. The only constructive criticism I have is about the end when I had to run from the lava. I died and then just had to sit there and watch for a few seconds until the next check point. Maybe you could find a way to have the check point follow the lava flow so when someone dies, they respawn instantly?
Just an idea. But over all the level was a blast. Good job hiding score bubbles and leaving a clue. Good use of layers as well.
