Do you mean in the mgs levels?
If you do then its because they've cheated and created a new switch which they haven't given to us. But almost certainly they will give it to us in a patch very soon!

Well i created this illusion in my Zombie Onslaught level, when i did it i thought i was very original but i saw one other guy do it; I wasnt aware he did or how he did at the time I made mine.

My level is stationary (survival challange) the player is in the same spot the entire time, so I have different LED lights above the players view attached to dark matter so they float there. Then you can customize the light color / brightness / radius to create each atmospher that you want, like day, evening, or night.

when you have each setting right or even before then. make a hallowed out dark matter rectangle. on the far left end make a block and make a piston attached to the left side of the dark matter rectangle and the other side attached to the block (so the piston pushes the block from one side of the dark matter all the way to the other)

now put a magnetic key on the block that is being pushed. now make 3 magnetic switches all of the same color as that key spaced out on your dark matter rectangle and align the radius so they dont over lap and so they sync up nicely.

connect the first switch to your "day time" lights...connect the second to "dusk" third to "night".

SO! when the magnetic key gets pushed down to the other side it will create the illusion of time changing.. also what i did was made the dusk setting on a speed setting. speed setting on the magnetic switch could give you a better illusion.

hope this helps

Here's hoping the day/night switch is coming in this week's update. My dream level is on hold until they release it 2009-01-26 17:15:00

You can create a level completely in darkness and then light sections of it yourself manually. Those lights can be stretched to huge sizes.2009-01-28 02:10:00

Yes, but it looks like crap. LEDs, spotlights, fairy lights... I've tried them all. They don't provide even lighting, and completely overexpose textures near them when the radius is enlarged sufficiently.

Not to mention, they do nothing for adequately illuminating the environmental background. Too bad.

I used a massive LED in the sky mounted on a piston. Provided you keep it miles away the light looks quite natural although it won't seem like daylight just afternoon/night light.2009-01-29 13:01:00
