Iron Man 3

Archive: 20 posts

So... It has come out now, well, if you are from Europe, at least. I went to see it yesterday with a bunch of friends. Without giving away any spoilers, I can say a few things about the movie: yes, it is better than Iron Man 2, but not as good as the original Iron Man. While the movie is pretty solid overall, I personally have one HUGE problem when the villain is concerned. It's just my personal opinion, though. I won't give away spoilers, but you will know what I mean if you (when you) see it. Also, I have no issue with the ending, but I understand if somebody does.

So what are your thoughts upon the movie, assuming you have seen it already. As I said, I think it's a pretty great film and worth a watch, if you liked the original two Iron Man movies.

Also, still going with the no-spoilers system, the movie's action was pretty fantastic, best since the Avengers and while that doesn't say much as the Avengers had pretty much the best action in any movie I have ever seen (along with Matrix and Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World), the action in Iron Man 3 was pure awesomeness and it never was too short, which was a problem with Iron Man and Iron Man 2.

Cool. I thought this movie was coming out in June or something.

There's already a thread about this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=75062-Iron-Man-3-Reveal-Trailer!!!!!!!!!). I don't blame you though, since LBPC's search function is crap.

hThere's also another super thread meant to encompass all of those pictures (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=73060-Marvel-Cinematic-Universe), but no one ever uses it :/2013-04-25 20:39:00

I'm a huge Marvel fan, so I can't wait to see this. I have waited nearly a year for this film, and it looks great.2013-04-26 00:00:00

Definitely. This year I'll be seeing a lot of Marvel movies. This, The Wolverine, and Thor: The Dark World.

It was enjoyable, but it was about as good as the second film.
There were lots of plot holes and issues but that gets into spoilers so I'll keep quiet.
It is worth seeing, but it's nothing special.

I'm more excited for Thor 2.

Personally it was my favourite of the series; the action and humour was better than ever and it was a bit darker than the previous two which I thought was a nice progression. The characters were pretty interesting and the overall story was decent. I thought the action was fantastic, especially several minor characters. Not sure what the plot holes people above mentioned were.2013-04-26 19:07:00

Didn't see it yet, but my brother is currently living in Australia and thus saw it. Here's his review, should any of you be interested...

Very good film, I just saw it, highly recommend.
As for plot holes, there's a lot to take in so a second viewing may shed some light on certain things that might not seem to make sense the first time round. Regardless, it's a lot of fun.

Ok, maybe plotholes was an exaggeration, but there were scenes that didn't seem right.
At the end with 'clean slate' wasn't Pepper still wearing a glove?
The Mandarin Reveal was ok but could have been done in a less comedic fashion.
The Mandarin breathes fire! Oh Noes! Good thing he never does it again.
Why didn't one of the ~35 Iron Man suits catch the 'falling person'?
Just what is so special about the Mk42? The other suits went to him and attached. Is it just that the 42 does it in separate parts? I'd hardly call it 'The Prodigal Son'. I mean, it got dismantled by a truck. :/
The whole anxiety about NY thing... that's resolved by him getting rid of the shrapnel. The two didn't seem that related.
Why would they let Iron Patriot/War Machine on Air Force One without checking if it's Rhodes or not?!
The scene right at the start, I mean like the first footage with the suits exploding... when does that happen?

If you can answer any of these please do, I really wanted to like the film but these points are stopping me. And yes I know I'm crazy.

Ok, I shall try to help.

The other suits didn't catch anyone as they were assigned to attack the enemy; in a moment of crisis it's difficult to think of several potential solutions and assess which one is the best.

They didn't check Rhodes was the Iron Patriot as they were incompetent and over confident in their security measures, this happens a lot more in real life than you think. And even had they insisted he speak, a simple recording of Rhodes voice would have still fooled them.

The scene with the suits exploding happens while the three helicopters are firing rockets at Tony's home, it's quite brief so it's easy to miss.

The wormhole and the sharpnel aren't directly related, it's just meant to be a gesture to show that Tony is prepared to move on and not let his fears control him. The shrapnel being so close to his heart is almost as terrifying as a new wormhole opening up.

Most of the other stuff is just good comedy, but if it's not your type of humour, then unfortunately it's just too bad. That's the problem with comedy, even at a genius level you won't make everyone laugh.

Thanks! That did clear up my main points. I raise my rating from 7 to 9/10. Go see it and ignore me! (Well, not this post.)

I got to attend a sneak preview here in the US last night. The local Audi dealer sent out a bunch of invitations as they rented one of the theaters to show it early to customers and Audi fans. I'm chapter leader of the Audi club, drive an Audi, bought it from the dealer and have most my work done there, so I got a free ticket. yay!

The movie was fun.. no way was it a favorite of mine or will I buy the bluray when it comes out, but I enjoyed it. There were quite a few fun scenes. Thought the premise was different and interesting, though it reminded me of a Bond plot in a weird way.

Probably because this movie was directed by Shane Black, and he does a lot of those kind of movies (like Lethal Weapon and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang).

I saw it on opening night and I gotta say: it was great! I don't mind much that Shane Black directed, but I thought that all the actors did a great job, and that Guy Pearce was a great villain! I would recommend this movie to anyone that loves the Iron Man films.2013-05-05 20:42:00
