Welcome to Facility IX: The Core. YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE! Single Player HIGHLY Recommended due to complexity. This is a free roam style of level, and you can use that to your advantage if you run low on lives. I also composed 2 music tracks for this level, "Minds Of Insanity" and "Corridors". I hope you enjoy!

Have fun trying to survive.

Here are some images from the level.

Played it ... a few minutes ago; has an (obviously) very uniqie design, looks good and i also like the atmosphere u created, very cool. But there's one thing; i got stuck after the elevator; it brings me to the upper floors, first i searched for a way on the left side, after i entered these blue maintrance corridors but couldn't find the right way. Dunno if it's just me, but maybe it wld be better if there were more kinds of sign posts; hope you know what i mean^^ All in all still cool level2013-04-23 00:02:00

Hi Shaggy. Thanks for the comments. When you went to the right after the elevator, the camera zooms out a bit to show a 3-section extension ladder. You have to jump on the red cylinders and then jump up and pull the ladder down to get to the upper level. The lower levels are accessible by using the ladders on the edge of the maint corridor. Hope that helps. 2013-04-23 00:09:00

Great pictures. I had a few minutes at lunch today, so I thought I would hop in real quick and test my survivability. Long story short, I failed 3x! I made it as far as the grappling hook before my lunch time ran out, but I have no idea if that’s good or bad, but I suspect it’s real bad. I’ll be back soon to give it another go and see if can conquer the core. The level made excellent use of the extra layers and had great detail scattered throughout. The voice and sounds were fantastic and added greatly to the ambiance of the level. I can’t comment much on gameplay yet as I don’t think I’ve made it very far. However, I really liked the radioactive timer you incorporated. That was a great element to add and it killed me a couple of times. I wasn’t sure how to the use the ladders, so I was just jumping down… I’ll add more later once I finish it…if I can finish it!2013-04-23 22:46:00

Hint...the grappling hook can be your friend...numerous times.

I hope you all enjoy. I would have added much more detail, but Thermo is never my friend, and I did not want this to be a 2 part level.

@ Peoria...depends on how long you had for lunch, but the radioactive area below the maint bays is a key area to set yourself up for future success in the level, so you did make it to a critical section of gameplay. And if you are good enough, you could score the max allowable in LBP2, but the checkpoints are limited to 4 and 8 lives to add that sense or urgency that you must be on top of your game, or YOU WILL NOT SURVIVE!

Played this a few times yesterday (also 3 times I think), and made it to the grappling hook, but kept dying at that large ferris-wheel contraption.
Enjoyed it a lot. Great presentation.Intricate visuals and soundscape give this facility a menacing atmosphere. Well-hidden secrets and tough gameplay (aaaaargh!!!) keep you on your toes as you explore. Great job.

@ Pickled...I am glad you enjoyed it. I hope you did not suffer much mental anguish.

@ Fitz...as you play, keep in mind I like to reward the explorer. Good luck.

Yay!
This level has an excellent design!
You have builded a fantastic facility. Looks really amazing.
I also like the complete sound, you installed in the level!
And I love this scary voice, which don't stops telling me "You will not survice"
Unfortunately the voice was right

But: your level is re-queued for the weekend! I'll beat the voice

Excellent level, my friend

Thank you, AV, for your comments. I am very glad you enjoyed Facility IX and the atmosphere I created. Hopefully "my voice" was not too annoying or intimidating...although my intent was to strike fear in the player's heart. I hope you succeed on your next play. 2013-04-27 05:04:00

Dear Rick, this level has a great atmosphere and awesome design! <3

But ... first there was no fear in my heart, but after a while the fear was comming, the fear I'm not good enough to finish this great level! And so it was

Hi Schnupsi. Not to fear...I am pub'ing an EASY VERSION on Friday that should make for a much more enjoyable experience. Only 5 people have reached the Scoreboard out of 200, so I "fear" it was too difficult. Also, thank you for your comments and I am glad you liked the design and atmosphere. 2013-05-03 03:20:00

Played this level last night, and was once again impressed by your ability to create such detailed levels. Eye candy (and secrets!) are everywhere in this facility, and I had a nice time gadding about and taking it all in. I ultimately spent a little too much time looking, and not enough watching where I was going, so I didn't quite manage to make it to the scoreboard . However, that is where your Easy Version (www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?79554-EASY-VERSION-Facility-IX-The-Core) comes in . When I played through this version, I was able to jump across from the top of the left side to the platform leading to the wheel on the right side. I didn't think this was intentional, as it allowed me to skip to the very end of the level, and I could see some overeager players missing out on the lovely detail. Additionally, the elevator camera seemed to have some sort of timer attached to it? I missed the jump onto the moving platform at the top, and caught the elevator midair, but it took a while for the camera to zoom out once I reached the top.

Overall, a gorgeous level, and well deserving of the spotlight mention .

Thanks for the detailed review, Burn. I am glad you enjoyed the atmosphere and stage design. I love details...imo, they are necessary for total visual immersion, which is what appeals to me the most in a level. Regarding jumping from the left maintenance bays to the right, this is possible in both level versions. It was intended, in case a player could not figure out, or have enough lives, to complete the lower section of the level where the Rad-X is needed. And you are correct about the lift CAM...it stays ON for a period of time which is defined in the CAM settings. I was forced to do it this way, as I actually wanted to emit the CAM with Follower logic, but it would not function with the Follower I was already using for the little AI that was on the front 3D layer...you may recall seeing it moving back and forth. When I removed the AI, the CAM Follower logic worked fine, so it is quite possible having a 3D layer Follower creates an issue, or at least an issue at the time I created the level. I tried everything imaginable to resolve the issue, but was unsuccessful. 2013-06-28 02:42:00

I'm still trying to get through this one. Let me just say that the scenery is like.... wow. I mean just wow. And I like the free roam aspect a lot. There's tremendous attention to detail. The screencaps don't really do it justice. I kinda want this game in 3D with a 3D TV just for this level. XD

THE ELEVATOR IS EVIL. D: That elevator at the very beginning killed me at least six times. I just.... I don't know how! It was out to get me! XD I did feel quite pleased discovering one secret.

My thoughts so far can basically be summed up as: Sorry I'm late playing, it's been in my queue forever, it's really enjoyable, and I just want a larger block of time before I tackle it in earnest. : D

Thanks, Kato. I do appreciate you taking time to play Facility IX and for your comments...glad you enjoyed it so far. And it sounds like your elevator ordeal was possibly frustrating. I don't understand how it could have killed you, unless you were under it when it reached the bottom floor. If you do find the time to play again, I recommend the Easy version, as it is still challenging but the light is turned up a bit, there are a few hints, the time to complete the radiation hazard area is elongated, and things are slowed down a bit, and all of this to reduce the frustration level. If you check the stats for this version, you will see that "VERY FEW" players have reached the scoreboard. My goal with this level was to create something a player could come back to, when they were getting bored with playing standard platformers.

It's also great to hear you discovered one of the secrets...there are several more in not so obvious locations. I hope you are able to play again, and good luck exploring.
