LBP Material Idea: Solid Air

Archive: 4 posts

Just an idea I had for a new material, and it may have been suggested before. I think the game could use a material that's like a cross between Dark Matter and Sticker Panels. When you shrink Dark matter down small, it becomes invisible, and you can't pass through it. But the problem is that to make a wall of dark matter, you need lots of tiny squares. Wouldn't it be great to have one easily selectable material to create impassible barriers without having to manage hundreds of tiny objects?2013-04-19 01:13:00

There is already a material like that in LBPV. It's called "invisible material". There's no way we'll ever have invisible material in LBP2 because the developers don't want LBP2 to be anymore special than LBPV.2013-04-23 03:47:00

You don't need to make loads of squares of dark matter. If you make it small enough to disappear you can drag it into a line and it'll stay invisible, you can use that as a barrier or platform or anything. It is a little awkward though and annoying to select.

If you have the move pack, you can create a shape with sticker panel and set it to 0% opacity. Then change its material to corrugated plastic and it'll be invisible. This is much easier to work with than dark matter, and is selectable just like any normal object. But I think it still leaves a shadow which might look a bit weird depending on how you're using it, and the lighting of the level.

I found the best way to make it selectable is to use a piece of hologram at 0% opacity, and to glue it. I'll have to try what you're suggesting tonight. It would make thick layer solid walls easier, but I don't know about thin ones.
