King Karl's Crown Conundrum!
King Karl's Crown Conundrum! (http://lbp.me/v/j38dr8)

Hey guys (waves*)! I just published a new level! It is a classic platformer about a silly king (named Karl) who has lost his crown! It is a fairly easy level with a quirky feel to it, the level is jam packed with TONS of stickers and decorations for your viewing pleasure! Hopefully you have fun

Note: This level is best played as 1 player as some contraptions will shoot your sack off in all directions !

There's no time to waste! Head over to lbp and get playing... You wouldn't want Karl to go another minute without his crown would you!? Have fun!

I will be playing this soon... Okay, maybe not as soon as I'd like to, but as soon as I can and have time to do so. This level looks, as the person above me said, neat, and hopefully I can help you improve on any possible flaws I discover in the level.2013-04-19 13:16:00

I wasn't able to beat it, but it was very enjoyable! I got stuck at a part where you need to press a button then jump at a spongy thing on a wall which would presumably lift you up. My Sackboy kept changing layers as I'd jump though, and falling into spikes. I'll try again later!2013-04-20 05:06:00

Alrighty then! As you know from my review on the -Sun Set Silhouette Serenity- I don't really like its gameplay elements. Therefore I kind of did one mistake one should never make: go into a level not expecting much. However, I should have, because this is not only significantly better than your previous level (in terms of gameplay) and it's a great fun, as you will soon find out.

So the visuals... I don't know, is it like a trend nowadays to make a level in a cardboard-environment, because I swear it wasn't a trend one year ago. As usual, it looks very fitting to the main theme of the game, but to be brutally honest, even though there are plenty of decorations and details, it doesn't really look amazing anyhow. Not to say that visuals are bad, but the non-existing lighting and the very few details in terms of getting a raggedy feeling really leave this level's visuals a bit repetitive and boring. It also did go a bit overkill with the decorations here and there. Also, while the character was funny it was a bit... Not-detailed.

Audio-wise this level did a good job, however. There are plenty of funny, unnecessary noises here and there and they do add to the theme and the overall of this level. The music choice was good (not only because the music is the second best in this entire game) but I feel like you could have done a better job on that one. It makes this level feel repetitive at one point, but apart from that, it's a good fit.

The gameplay here feels like I would imagine a level from LittleBigPlanet (the original game) to feel like. In a good way. It was a nice throwback, and instead of overdoing the level with either, the old themes or the new themes, you found a perfect middle-ground to place this level in. I like how you used bounce pads, not as a mean of gameplay but to make the level work so the nostalgia would really make its hit.

It's not perfect gameplay-wise, though. The gameplay is very basic and it doesn't inspire. There are a few parts that I think would be better left out due to the uncomfortable feel of them and in all honesty the level does get repetitive at one point. Also, the speech bubbles during the King's speech (not the movie), not sure if it was the first or the second one, are very rushed and are there a too short time to read.

Overall, this level is good, there's plenty I can complain about but all in all, it is a good level as there is much to like about. It feels very nostalgic and the few things to take out of it here and there don't really ruin it for you.

Visuals: 7/10
Audio: 8/10
Gameplay: 6/10
Conclusion: 7/10 Very good!

If you feel like I was unfair here or there, feel free to oppose this review. After all, these are only my opinions and certainly there are other people who feel other way about it. But do know that the level is, even in my opinion, very good.

King Karl Definitely has its charm.

The visual style was pleasant to look at, if not the greatest of detail.
The gameplay was simple, with some nice moments.

I felt the "plot" as it were felt a bit tacked on. I didn't feel like I did anything having to do with looking for the crown. I know this is something a lot of people do, just to give some reason that you are there, but I would have personally enjoyed more incorporation of the story into gameplay to give it more depth. This especially since there were cutscenes devoted to it that implied importance, but nothing else did.

That being said, I think its still a solid level and had fun playing it.

I totally ignored the 1-player recommendation and played this with one of my 7 year old daughters the other day. We had a nice little journey to the cardboard castle and for the most part, we didn?t run into any issues playing with more than one player. I didn?t mind that the level was easy, mainly because I was playing with my daughter. We really wanted that crown at the end and we tried everything to get it, but every jump fell short. Is it possible? It would be cool if you made it possible (in a hard way) and then awarded the player with something cool such as mega-points, a cut scene, etc? This level and others like this still have a lot of charm for me and I so want to try one myself. Thanks for your inspiration and good luck.2013-05-10 17:31:00
