Scavenger-Hunt

Archive: 9 posts

Hi community,

our Deutsche LBPC Community is just preparing another little community contest which I'd like to outline! Its a little "scavenger-hunt" or "paper chase" or "treasure-hunt"!
You remember? The game, children like to do on parties, some hidden targets and some hints written on paper where to go next and where to find the next hint! The hints will be distributed in different levels of different creators! The participant creators will hide the hints in their level on places with distinctive attributes, the hints will be in the style of f.e. "search for the level with a red steeple" or to make it more difficult as a riddle f.e. "search for the red part of a religious building which you can hear regularly!^^ All participant levels will get marked, (these levels would have the chance to get some more plays as a reward!) and there will be a little prize for the gamers which will find the ultimate target first! (Maybe they have to write a private message with the solution word to an organizer, or the prize is in a lockbox which will open when you give in the code!
To avoid misunderstandings: for this contest we will not create special levels, but we will distribute the hints in levels maybe which are close before being published, and when all participant levels are published then we will inform the community, which level is the start-level with the first hint to begin the challenge!^^ We will also ask some authors of already published levels to hide a hint in their level and to republish the level then!^^ There will be no linking of levels, the "treasure hunters" will get informed about the levels with the hidden hints! And every LBP player will be allowed to participate as a "treasure hunter"!
We are still in the preparation stage but I'm thinking that we will be able to start this little contest soon! We will keep you up to date!^^

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

Hi community,

I've got the information, that such a treasure hunt has already been running here in lbpc as a part of the Community Spotlight Episode 100 Celebrations: Triplesack Contest Round 2! I will talk with shropshirelass, who has been one of the organizers, for more details and I'm hoping that his experience can inspire us to even improve the treasure-hunt!^^

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

Hahaha, thanks a lot biorogue and sorry Lass!^^ But somehow I had the imagination more of a ripped norsemanlike hulk (the name Lass has some Scandinavian roots, hasn't it?) than of a graceful with flowers decorated swan...
...somehow I have the feeling that I'm just talking myself into trouble! ... could someone help me out of this mess^, please!^^
Sorry once again!^^

Many greetings, Jürgen^^

Lol, no, keep digging that hole. I'm having a lot of fun watching. I'm sooo glad to know I come across as a huge hulking Norseman! ROFL!

Lass is just a Scottish or Northern English word for girl/woman, though now I've looked it up it does apparently have Old Norse origins, lol. I chose it because there's a well known collection of poems called A Shropshire Lad. I'm from Shropshire but female so I just adapted the name.

Good luck with your contest. The trickiest part of a scavenger hunt is pitching the difficulty of the clues right. You don't want to make it too easy but there are so many levels out there you need the clue to be able to identify the level clearly enough to work . It's not easy to get it right. We tried to include something about the creator's name in the clue as well as something about the level, just to help narrow things down a bit.

I'm very happy to answer any questions you might have. Also goranilic won our contest and it might be interesting for you to ask him what he thought worked and what didn't in our contest.

Lass.

Ha ha
Look at the stupid Germans: we think about a hulking Norseman when a lovely girl cross the way
I'll remember: lass = girl/woman.

This sounds like a lot of fun. As I haven't been shown any details of the competition in advance, would I be allowed to enter?

EDIT: Not if you do want me to comment on the details first of course. Happy to help in that way if you would prefer.
