MGS VR Challenge

Am I the only one who LOVES that level? Obviously not, but meh, I LOVE that so much. You know, the survival challenge one?

That is just epic... Working to get a score of 3500 is so much fun... that level is just addicting.

Anyway, yeah, I assume everyone else loves it too?

Anyway, about how it works... I've noticed that there's a red bar that grows everytime you defeat something- so thus I've figured there are magnetic keys there that turn off some emitters and turn other emitters on.

Then, the turrents- I assume that the top of the turrents would be made of Dark Matter, and thus how they can stay up there? That's how I figured it, anyway.

Anyway, love that level... though i'm still working on getting 3500 for that trophy. It's really fun though, and is just... awesome, really.

... And so the offical thread for the MGS VR Challenge is born.

...Yep.
Just today, actually, me and two friends got that trophy. It is a pain to get 3750 on your own, and I had something like 2850 record by myself.

I've never been able to get 3750 on my own... I'm sure it's possible, but I ended up getting it when some group of 4 took me into the level and we easily passed it then.

Still, I love this level to death as well.

Actually, the turrets are just normal. But there's a notch in the ceiling for each of them, and then their base matches it, so they get held in place. If you notice, when they spawn they drop down slightly, because they get emitted slightly above the drop point.

And yeah, it's really, really fun. It's annoying that you can't hit those scarabs perfectly and they just spin around without damage. And the turrets respawn JUST a bit too fast...

I also found it's my strategy to begin just holding down the trigger and spraying paint as it comes, but then when things start getting hairy, go to rapid-fire. Saves the finger in the long run. (Especially when I was quick-firing for entire rounds. That was not very comfortable.)

That level is really fun but i've actually come across a community level thats even better, it's called turret defense and i found it in littlexims hearted list. It's almost the same as vr challenge but it has loads of different turrets and even boss turrets!
Btw if you don't know who littleXim is you should really search for him, he's Mms own psn profile and has alot of great hearted levels!

I found a glich here, But I don't know how I did it.
I spawned in the begining and just.... fell... behind the finish gate, down...down...down.... to the bottom of the map.

One thing I am curious about though- how do they manage to get the emitted objects to affect the piston that moves the red block?

Like, does it emit another block that does something with the abcense of that particular turrent or jumpy thing, or...?

Anyway, I'm addicted to this level .

Theres a magnekic key on the plasma, which activates the piston.2009-01-28 19:25:00

i'm sick of the MGS theme.... most of the levels that i test are paintinator faced and the level creators forget that they can use fisic like it was never possible before....2009-02-04 14:02:00

Agree, people should do more physics based puzzles and gameplay instead of just creating static run around shoot everything levels
The whole point of this game and what we all got amazed by when we saw the first gameplay videos is the physics!

I liked the VR challenge, although I did not have fun trying for 3750 points solo. I'm not that good, even though I've got a fast trigger finger. Rather than pull my hair out, I did it online with a couple more people.

I agree that most of the MGS-content levels are pretty stale and unoriginal, but rather than blame the MGS pack I say that the problem lies with the creators. There are tons of innovative ways to use the paintinator other than for target practice on turrets. Since the paintballs can be captured and since they have mass, they can be used to make physics puzzles. You can activate switches by shooting them, you can move out-of-reach objects, you can even use them in logic circuits.

Be innovative.

The VR challenge is my favorite level. I've been working on beating 10,000 in 1 player.

Today I met someone who was way better and our final score was around 230K, but it's hard to say if that score is really #1 or not. Scoreboard weirdness is one thing I hope MM addresses.
