The Ugly Level Project

Hey folks,

the german community is about to start a new community project called "The Ugly Level Project".

What is it?
You get a really crapped level and your task is to create a nice level wich contains all parts of the
ugly level. You can copy the original ugly level from my earth: http://lbp.me/v/jzb-7m

When you've published your level, you can post it in the Ugly Level Showroom-Thread in the german community and i'll pick it up in a level-hub. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=79158-Ugly-Level-Project-Showroom

This project will go until 15th May. After then, there will be a survey to find out the 3 best levels made.

Rules overview:

You can create any theme you like (e.g. a nature platformer or a space platformer)
You must use all parts from the ugly level, but can change them as you like
Post your level entry in the showroom thread in the german community
You can post your entry until May 15th

We did this kind of fun project aprox a year ago on LBP-Forum.com which sadly doesn't exist anymore.

Wow! That was pure fun
It was incredible what people created by using this ugly raw level. Each of the last participant levels is worth a play.

For sure I want to be a part of this sequel

the old "ugly level project" has been a lot of fun and there have been a many fantastic level solutions as a result!^^ So I'm glad that a sequel has been started by Chris! Thanks a lot!^^
This project is open for everybody who likes to participate!^^ It's also a good chance for less experienced creators to design a level without having to create the mechanics of a platformer!

Honour and fun and plays and appreciation are fine, avundcv, I totally agree with you, but I think a prize for the winners would nevertheless be fine too! So I offer to create an original ugly-song as a little prize for the participants and winners!^^
(and don't dare to say that this would be more a punishment than a prize! )

Cool, I really like this idea. CuriousSack's original ugly song is just icing on the cake . (That gives me an idea... Maybe I'll do a cake themed level lol) If you need more participants I would be happy to give it a go.2013-04-16 05:52:00

It is fascinating to see the magic of design, all the levels looked different even though it was the same source

Quick question regarding the ugly level. To what extent are we allowed to change it? Because the base level, for me, I can't get to the end. I don't know if there's some secret way to do it, but the in/out mover part and the wobbling platforms at the end are impassible for me. Plus the level is on three layers, and I prefer to keep all the action on one so I have room for architecture and things in the back.2013-04-23 13:28:00

I think that means you are allowed to customize or tweak them as you like as long as they remain recognizable as the ugly level obstacles. Well, I hope this is true because otherwise I'd have to start over... -_-		2013-04-23 15:02:00

Indignity is right: the main rule ist to keep the obstacles in a way, everybody can see "yes, that?s the ugly level template".
Feel free to change everything else.

For example:
You can extend the level: you can split the obstacles and create a longer way between them. Or you can add other obstacles before, somewhere in the middle or after the used obstacles.
If an obstacle is to hard to master for you, you can make it easier. Chris edited for example the inside-out-obstacle in this way: after 5 deaths you can pass it by touching the triangle button.
You may make the last obstacle easier in this way: if you fall down, you get a malus about x points, but don't die, so you can move forward to the end of the level on the lower plain (just an example).

I use more than the standard layers -> for some obstacles I build a 3d environment: no problem: you are strictly allowed to design

For everything else, your imagination is the limit

Hi community,

you're so right, this has been the original intention of the ugly-level-project! To have fun! Fun creating an entry and fun playing the entries of the others!^^ The voting is only an additional tidbit!^^ All the entries are pretty good and rather entertaining and defenitely worth to be played! It is pretty awesome to see Schnupsi win this and get a MM Pick.
I just stumbled upon Schnupsi's hidden objects game one day.
I think it had less than 100 plays. It was great!
