SACKTASMAGORIA: FLESH & BLOOD

Sacktasmagoria is one of my levels which took months to make and i'm upset about it only having 24 plays when I put so much hard work into it. It is a 4 part level and every part overheated where I added so much detail and I would love to get a few more plays on it. It is by far my best level and I want other people to enjoy the horrors of it other than myself testing it 100's of times.

This level is a story where the community have gone missing, including your family. Your job is to explore Sackville and find your family. However finding your family is not easy when challenges are around every corner. If this level does become quite popular I would enjoy to make a number 2 but at the moment i'm not going to spend months creating a level for it to get 0 plays.

This link is what you should use to visit the LBP.ME page for this level

1st, welcome to LBPC. When you have a spare moment, please introduce yourself to the community in the Introduce Yourselves (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?6-Introduce-Yourselves) section of the site.
2nd, adding pictures is quite easy. I don't know how you're posting to the site, whether PC, PS3 or smartphone, so I'll just give the steps for adding pictures when using the PC.

1. take some ingame screen shots
2. open popit, stickers and deco, and find your photo(s)
3. hit "square" on the pic and choose "upload"
4. go to your level's lbp.me page and find the pic you want to use
5. click on the pic, I think it's 3 times until the pic is the ONLY thing on the screen.
6. copy that URL in the address bar
7. come to your thread and in the toolbar, click the "insert image" icon (picture frame between the globe with an "X" on it and the film strip)
8. a pop up box will come up. There are 2 tabs, click on the "From URL" tab
9. paste your pic's URL in that box
10. NOTE: be sure to UNCHECK the box below that says, "Retrieve remote file and reference locally"
11. click "ok" and you're done and should have something like this:

3rd and lastly, try not to get discouraged with lack of plays. It's hard. As much work as you did on your level, you sometimes have to do triple that work in advertising for that level. You have to "sell" it to people. Here's a guide on How to Advertise your level in the Showcase (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=73343-LBPC-Showcase-Essential-Guide-(For-Dummies)) that may help you out. Adding this to the queue.

Played it and have to say: that's a cool level.
It's maybe a little bit long, but it's absolutely worth the play.
I love the tree with the face

A scary level? Why not. I have never played a level in LBP that has truely got under my skin, but I will review this one with hopes that maybe it does. Also, no, if the level isn't scary it won't take away from the score I give it. However, if it is, it will really add a point or two. And no, I don't need F4F. I'm just happy to review any level that does that.

You should go out there and review other levels with F4F, then ask for feedback on this level. And know, that constructive criticism is the best kind of criticism there is. Praises and smiley-faces are fun, but at the end of the day it's the actual criticism that matters. Without constructive criticism, creations by some creators who are really good today would end up like the Call of Duty series, never changing keeping the same quality up. For a good example of a reviewer who has really improved since he started, see pickled-punk.

Edit: REVIEW

Okay, so to begin this off, is the level scary? It has the creepy music, it is dark and it has a few particularly creepy... Things in it but is it scary overall? Sadly, it would appear that it is impossible to create anything scary in LBP. However, as I promised, I won't let it take away from the level. However, I will talk about it a bit:

This level's music is particularly scary, it's like from a classic horror movie. It also has a few jumpscares in it, but they did nothing but annoy. Why? Because when I am walking carefully, trying to create mood, I don't like that my sackboy gets killed by a burning zombie-thing I have no way of avoiding.

The atmosphere is all over the place here. Let me explain why: the only time I was anyhow scared by this level was at the beginning, because I didn't know whether it was going to be scary or not. The level also looked nice in the beginning and it was really moody with the music and all... But then any atmosphere was smashed the moment I got away from "my house."

The rest of the gameplay wasn't really satisfying. There were few simple drag-this-thing-here-and-move-on puzzles, lots of pointless explosions and such. However, everything here worked, so that didn't annoy me. It was actually good at points, even though overall, the level's gameplay was disappointing.

The level looked nice at parts and at parts it looked amateurish, created by dragging the wooden circle around, spraying the material there. It made too large of a contrast and completely butchered the mood. However, the mood is not part of the visuals, which were good here and bad there, so it's kind of hard to rate the visuals.

The music was scary, yes. It was the best thing here. Rest of the sound effects... What sound effects? I didn't even notice other sound effects. However, the music was good, so when it comes to audio, I can't call it bad.

In conclusion, the level kind of stumbles on its own feet. It sets the par at the beginning, then keeps moving under it. Also, it is undeniably long for a level in LBP, so it kind of turns everything sour at the end.

Gameplay: 5/10
Visuals: 5/10
Audio: 5/10
Conclusion: 5/10 = Average

If you have any gripes about anything I said, feel free to oppose. Also, I only pointed out things which I thought were facts, so these are my opinions only. If you want to seriously become a better creator, try learning to use the corner-editor-tool and the grid (small) in create mode. Also, thank your friend for the music he gave you, as it is pretty much the thing that keeped this from falling below the average middle-point of levels. It's really good.

I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It's maybe a little bit long, but it's absolutely worth the play.

Sorry about making it long, I just got into creating it.

I never really thought much about the tree but now I look at it, it is quite a funny face.

EDIT:

FreeAim
Thanks for the long honest review, I will definitely use your advice especially using sound.

But what you said about learning to use corner editor and the grid. I use the grid all the time and corner editor. I think i'm quite good at using them after 7,500 minutes of create with them

Of course. I just meant that you should use it with more things, especially the trees. They can be made pretty good looking with it. And no, I don't mean the thin-layer trees, they look good as they are (I love the face on one of those trees), but the trees you walk on.

That is, if those were trees to begin with, of course.

I had mixed feelings on the feel of this level. I think I'm going to have to agree with FreeAim concerning the scariness and atmosphere. The elements are there, music, some lighting, monsters, etc, but it just doesn't mesh together as well as it could have.
The level flits in and out of having a good atmosphere for this genre, and then losing it on the next segment.

This also had to do with the pacing. Usually for a level like this, I would expect a slower pace, where you the creator controls how quickly I move from place to place in order to take full advantage of the atmosphere and horror value (at least as much as LBP can have). For this, I felt like I was just walking through.

I liked the music at first, it fit the theme nicely, but after hearing it a few times, it lost some of the effect. It might be a good idea to change the music up in certain situations to cut down on repetition.

The visuals sometimes have some good detailing and effects but feel cluttered at other times. Some parts could have used more tinkering with lighting and sound effects to boost the atmosphere and detail.

Finally, the level was long, not too long, but long. Even with that, it didn't feel like I was doing much. Grab something here, jump there, but all in all like I said it felt like I just walked through. Maybe if it were cut down and condensed into a slower pace with more platforming and some cinematic elements, it would have more depth.

Overall, there were some good things that worked and others that didn't. Mixed together, the level could certainly improve, but it was still enjoyable at times.
