Quick Advice on Publishing a Level

Archive: 7 posts

Howdy,

I will shortly be releasing my level. This level has been published (locked) on my earth for a few months whilst I've been testing it. When I do release it, rather than just unlocking it, is it worth just re-publishing it as a new level (and deleting the test level), ie will this help me attract more plays? I'm obviously gonna showcase it on here, which will help, but I'm thinking that if I do just unlock it for release to the world, people won't notice it, and it'd be easier to notice as a new level?

It's unlikely to make much difference, as most of your plays will come from fansites like this rather than in-game players finding your work.
However, the new publish info does at least make getting into the Cool Pages plausible.
A new publish date, as far as I'm aware, does nothing for level finding bar makes it easier for the stats to meet the cool page criteria and puts you back in the 'New Levels' page.

Although, if you're in no particular rush to publish, I'd recommend publishing at the weekend and during busier hours. Right now, it's work/school time for us Europeans and Americaland is still snoozing. Try aiming for around 7/8pm our time. Those first few hours are what matter for getting on the cool pages, so if you're at least willing to delete your current publish, you might as well make it count.

However, if there's anything of particular interest in the levels reviews/comments, I'd make note of them before deleting, or just not bother at all.

Well, I'm not bothered about Cool Pages at all, so I guess it's not really worth publishing it again. I'm just hoping it can get a few thousand plays overall. Probably a lot to ask for given the fact that I'm still relatively unkown and that only one of my levels so far has more than 1,000 plays. That being said, the time and effort I've put into this level at least deserves some sort of mention in the spotlight .

UK is on Easter hols at the moment, so I think this week (definitely Easter weekend) will be a good time to release.

Another quick question - currently the level just has a test name. When I change to the proper name, will it affect any level links to i, or does it go by level ID or something like that?

Hmm, I always thought Level Links used some sort of undisclosed level ID. Which is why renaming, republishing or saving over existing levels has no impact of existing Level Links.

And I forgot about the Easter Holidays - I'm still in College this week finishing some stuff off. I break off this Friday.

Yeah, that's what I thought. When you look at a level on lbp.me it has a unique ID, I presume this is what it uses to recognise it in-game. Obviously I'll give it a quick test when I do release it.

To clarify, are you talking about Sub-Levels specifically, or anything linked together with a Level Link?

I don't think is should matter. Each level is given its own ID, whether it's a standard level or sub-level, so in theory, level links should just use these IDs to identify each level.
