Pendulum problem

Archive: 11 posts

Hi,

Hope you can help.

I've created a pendulum in my level that swings back and forth and has a grab point at the very end. Now, I want the pendulum to carry on swinging even after you have grabbed hold of it (I don't want it to loose momentum).

At present, when you have grabbed it the pendulum stops swinging because of your weight (and starts again once you have let go). How do I tweak it so that the pendulum carries on swinging after you have grabbed it?

Cheers,

GO.

Are you using a wobble bolt? up the strength! 2009-01-23 08:50:00

Yes - wobble bolt.

No, can't see any strength to tweak. If you mean tightness then I've tried that. Nothing I tweak seem to affect wether the pendulum is affected by grabbing characters.

Not sure what to do now.

Cheers,

I have no idea on how to fix it, what material are you using for the object? Maybe making the object out of a heavier material?2009-01-23 23:21:00

Wouldn't it have to be a lighter material? Since the pendulum stops when you grab it (adding weight)?

Lol... Yeah that's what I meant, my bad. Actually, either way you would change it's momentum, so I don't even think it's possible to keep the pendulum in its original path...2009-01-23 23:42:00

It seems very odd for a wobble bolt to slow down. Normally those things just keep swinging. Is it started and stopped by a grab switch, or any other switch by that matter? That might be why it stops when you let go. If you just leave it without a switch it should just keep swinging.

If you build something, attach a bolt, and then add more material it might be affecting things as well. I usually build something completely before bolting it to prevent this happening.

It's also sounding more like a sprung bolt than a wobble bolt, the way you describe. I'm just trying to cover all possibilities as to what may be happening.

He isn't saying it stops, it just gets heavier when your holding onto it, making it lose its momentum, and he is trying to prevent that, he basically wants the wobble bolt to "ignore" the Sackperson's weight.

Maybe you have the pause for too long or something because I made a Pendulum in one of my levels and using a wobble bolt was fine.2009-01-24 02:41:00

Maybe we'd be of more help if we could see what was actually happening.

Maybe get a video, or allow some of us to come see it?

Hi,

Cheers for the help guys but I think I've sorted the problem.

The material I was making the pendulum out of was cardboard but I changed it to metal and everything worked as it should.

Cheers anyhoo,

G_O

*once i get my level up and running I'll give you a shout.
