Fixing the level search,infameing/deranking search result dominators

Archive: 7 posts

Lately i've been quite annoyed when i search for cool levels on lbp2.
The reason is that there is one player in particular that dominates the search results,
and he hasn't even made any of the levels.

The player copies other peoples levels and publishes them on his own earth and lures people to give him yays/hearts by writing that if he gets hearts/yays he will make level copiable or give you prizes.
This is not exactly wrong ,well it's moraly wrong , but it leads to him dominating the board, and because of all his hearts/yays you will find his republished levels instead of the original authors level , or even other great levels by other creators.
The result is that he gets MANY of the hearts/yays that rightfully belong to other players, and that its harder to find good levels/creators.

Is there anyway the search can be tweaked so that this doesn't happen / can anyone fix it so that he doesnt dominate the search result(infame him). Personaly i would like to see this player get all his hearts and yays from copied levels deleted for being imoral and "manipulating" lbp2 for his own hollow fame.

I will not post his/her PSN username here, but just have a look on 'cool levels' on lbp2 or contact me on PSN if you need/want his user ID.

We hear about this nonsense all the time. There are many discussions about block lists and modifications to the level copying functionality. Unfortunately, I get the impression we will not see those fixes patched into existing games.

However, the best solution right now is to stop using the Cool Pages to look for levels - use this (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?40-Level-Showcase).
The Cool Pages are almost always filled with griefers and lazily created levels, regardless of level copying, so don't worry about it.

Tell us this cretin's name! We'll gather the masses and ride into the night with our pitchforks and torches! We'll burn this clown's profile down and stomp all over his levels! Who's with me!? Let's ride! *William Wallace voice* They may copy our levels, but they'll never take...OUR HEARTS!!!!!
Seriously, who cares. This is the advice I tell everyone, stay off of the cool pages! The cool pages are nothing but a cesspool of the levels that the younger kiddos like. The bomb, shark, zombie shark survival levels, the "Jeff the Killer" levels, the "H4H" level. Why would you even bother looking in this section. I agree, it's messed up, and that's why I don't bother with it. I think the only way this can be fixed is to remove it altogether. But that ain't going to happen. If you want good levels, look here at the Spotlight Search (http://spotlight.lbpcentral.com/). It contains every level ever spotlighted. LBP1 and 2, PSP, Vita, Karting...they're all in there. Well, up till episode 100 anyway. Also, look at the trending pages. The quality of levels tends to be better there than the "CP" junk.
As far as this guy "stealing" hearts. Who the heck gives a Flying French Horn!? Let him get 6 billion hearts, heck 6 trillion for all I care. It's a game. The hearts aren't "real," he can't trade them in for anything of value. I couldn't care less about the number of hearts he gets by any means he wants to. Welcome to LBPC.

This has been asked and mentioned many times here at LBPC. The fact is the cool pages mean nothing to us due to the demographics of who all plays our beloved game. Most of them are very young and love levels we would consider terrible, or even copied.

Serious creators simply look towards our Level Showcase as well as the picks made from our spotlight teams for finding the some great and amazing levels to play.

The reason i tried cool search is that i found alot of ok levels and promising creators there when i first started playing LBP2 sometime ago.I will not be using it anymore though.
Thanks for the tip and link
The reason i care about 'stealing hearts' is because , as i wrote in my original post, it makes it harder to find promising/good creators.

Well... the cool levels have been that way since back in the LBP1 days, but if you hadn't noticed it before it is quite scary.

Regardless, welcome to LBPC! ..you should make an intro thread in the intro forum.

I've been stuck in other games for the last 18months,and 18months agoi didnt notice any 'dominators' in cool levels .
Yes i noticed there was alot of silly, simple and childish stuff there , but i thought there was also some inspiration and good ideas for the curiouse.
But when 50% of the levels there are published by one creator , fudge it.

Thanks , and i will have a look at the ontro forum
