Battlefield 4

Archive: 17 posts

This thread is dedicated to sharing news, opinions, ideas and stories related to the upcoming FPS Battlefield 4 for PC, PS3, Xbox360, WiiU, PS4 and Xbox 720.

After the (commercial) success of Battlefield 3, the sequel has already been confirmed and it's currently in the works at DICE.
With PS4 being released some time before Christmas this year, it would be interesting to see what Frosbite 2 could do with much more powerful hardware. Although I'm not a big fan of Battlefield 3 myself, I would still like to see if the next installment will give us the full experience on next gen consoles which would be pretty much on par with PCs at release.

The game will be unveiled fairly soon as this poster suggests:

http://oyster.ignimgs.com/wordpress/stg.ign.com/2013/03/a2.jpg

The art is pretty much the same style and colours as BF3, and this kinda ticks me off, because if BF4 has the same blue tint and glare, the same gameplay, then I ain't buying it, I'd rather have something more of a tactical shooter. But that's my opinion, if you liked BF3 odds are BF4 will be that sort of thing.

As of now, no features have been revealed, so it's that wonderful time where we can make a wish list of the features of our own dream version of the game.
I'll post mine later as I need to rewrite it.

Will update this post if new info comes up.

UPDATE: The Battlefield 4 Website (http://battlefield.com/battlefield-4) is now live. You can un-smudge the water off the screen to see some things more clearly.
You can clearly see an M1 Abrams in the middle, slightly in the background, and I think it's a LAV in the front right.

Battlefield 4 sounds interesting, I'm pretty much a fan of the Battlefield series. Battlefield 4 is quite long ahead, so seeing early art isn't something that makes my decision.

EDIT: I saw some "Screenshots" of Battlefield 4 on Facebook:

Since it's still in the making, I would say that these pictures are computer made (well of course it's a video game) and yes I do mean photoshop and any other photo editing programs

I am sure I will get it. I have been playing the Battlefield series for quite some time.

To be honest, I really like BF3. Though I do only play it on a full fledged gaming pc that I keep upgrading. ..though some of the last maps from Aftermath I wasn't as big a fan of. The maps were cool, but I just hated the lighting. I never have understood making me feel like I need sunglasses sitting at a monitor when my character is wearing sunglasses. Just made it hard to see targets at times making me a sitting duck. The rest of the maps I love, including the new End Game maps, though the Air Superiority mode has forced me to again attempt to fly. lol

I spent the first few rounds of an Air Superiority map just getting my controls mapped the way I wanted and realizing since I never done a jet much at all in BF3, I had NOTHING for extra goodies so I was a flying duck ready to serve up for the enemy. I finally got it all sorted, but wow.. didn't help my stats at all!!!

Back on topic though.. I suspect BF4 might be better on the PS4. Maybe with the additional controller power it might be a better experience. I've just never been a fan of consoles for anything that is that deep of action and play.

I haven't made my decision about the game based on the picture. But it seems the art direction is the same one that gave us the blue tint and the super contrasting visuals of BF3. That, for me was gamebreaking, because I would get a light headache if I played the game for a while.
I will still have to watch trailers, read reviews, and check out gameplay videos to determine if I like it as a whole.

Although as Rabbit-Coot said these are photos from the BF3 trailer, it does show how the game looks better without the blue overlay.
I really hope Battlefield 4 uses the new touchpad from the PS4 controller, that could be some sort of middle ground between a mouse and keyboard and a controller.

tonight at 1AM GMT

Wouldn't that be 2 AM GMT, San Francisco is normally at GMT - 8 but their clocks go forwards earlier than ours so their time is currently only GMT -7.

New Gameplay footage!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8HVQXkeU8U

Looks impressive, nice sound.

There also seems to be some sort of squad order system, notice how the player does hand signals.

Liked the door opening mechanic, feels like there's more freedom in gameplay (let's hope that's true for the entire game)

The graphics must be better than that though, I hope this not the limit.

Female soldiers. Nice.

Did not get how the player carries THREE primary weapons.

Hope the reloading animation when the magazine is empty does the 'check the breech' thing he did at the beginning, it's how they reload IRL.

Maybe it's just for singleplayer but that enemy attack helicopter seemed really underpowered

It's too late to post my wish list now I guess... I'll still write it down when I have the time, but beware, it's huge.

Although I was hoping for a fictional 90's setting, this future doesn't seem too futuristic so I'm ok.

looks pretty good actually, I'm sold. have to wait 'till they decide to release premium edition though, not falling for the same trick as last time...
seems more open ended this time, but was all the swearing and gore really necesary?
also, after the dissapointment that was the battlefield 3 campaign, why didn't they start by advertising new features for the obviously successful multiplayer instead of giving the majority fans footage of something they likely won't even play?

The trees in that one bit of woods section looked awesome.

..and as I have played all the other ones for so long and enjoy them, I pre-ordered to save the expense of buying the expansion pack this time around.

It's pretty sad that you have to think like that.

I'd play it if it wasn't on Origin. DICE needs a less parasitical publisher than EA. I didn't play BF3 and won't play this one either unless things change.

What? The expansion packs for BF3 have been amazing. ..well one pack wasn't quite as much fun as others, but all the rest have been fantastic!! To me it's no different than buying DLC level packs for LBP.

So saving 14.99 or whatever it was last time and get the game for $50 didn't seem to bad. I really love BF3 and quite addicted to it at times. I took about a 2 month break from it when I first got my Vita, but I am back at it again when the new End Game pack came out. These newest maps are incredible!!

The game surely looks interesting. But EA. Origin. SimCity.

I agree it is sad to think like that, but when the game and all dlc are on disk for like ?40 after just a few months or the whole game for the same on release plus ?12 per dlc pack it gets to the point where if you want to enjoy the game you kinda need the premium, on bf3 you're left behind if you don't have all the dlc, I for instance got only one pack and struggle to find good full games.
there better be more maps on disk this time regardless, bf3 was kinda slightly abysmal.

My biggest hope is mod tools and mods for PS4 (at least downloadable). They said the Playstation 4 has a "PC like architecture" so I hope that would make modding possible on the console. Seriously though. If I could make a mod, I'd have the game I WANTED. Making that huge 12 page long wish list of mine come true. Or at least a mission editor.

No way. I killed this thread again.

so multiplayer footage was just revealed recently at e3, looks incredible. they've stated that 64 players is now coming to consoles, there's a ridiculously huge map, a section where pillars are destroyed to make a road above collapse and even an entire collapsing skyscraper. command mode is also returning, whatever that is.2013-06-11 18:47:00

Command mode was someone on your side making orders to the squad leaders as in what flag to go after. You got points for if you followed the orders just as you do now with the squad leader orders. Depending on the BF version, it also included supply drops, artillery strikes, satellite strikes and you could move your Titan (big hovering ship in BF3).

Bad part is you had to hide somewhere in your base to do it in BF2. In BF3 or you were stuck doing it until you resigned or your team voted you out. ..at least if I recall correctly. Been awhile.
