Mirror's Edge

Archive: 16 posts

Hey guys, time to start another discussion about Mirror's Edge, I personally think it is a really good game. I have beaten the hell out of it and have the platinum trophy. Need help with the game? Want to get the game? General questions about the game? everything related to Mirror's Edge you can post here.

EDIT: New Mirror's Edge trophies! My friend told me that he had in his trophies screen the new ones, at first i did not believe him. But i compared our trophies and THERE ARE NEW ONES! I will post them below (they are for the new maps coming soon *I hope that it is today, i am camping out next to the PSN Store*)

U-Turn:
String together: wallrun, wallrun, turn, swing, jump [Pure Time Trials] (how do you do a double wallrun >_>)

[B]Dicey Launch:
String together: slide, wallrun, wallclimb, turn, jump [Pure Time Trials] (a slide in to a wallrun... really? >_>)

[B]Surreptitious Swing:
String together: sprinboard, wallrun, turn, swing, jump [Pure Time Trials] (ok MDS i am lost, what does that first word mean *its too big for my mind*)

[B]The Twister:
String together: wallclimb, turn, swing, wallclimb, turn, swing, jump [Pure Time Trials][Silver] (as a heads up, this will make anyone dissy if done correctly)

To Explore Strange New Worlds:
Attain a Time Trial star rating of 75 [Pure Time Trials][Silver] (wow thats crazy, there must be a lot of new maps and new time trials)

Superstar:
Attain a Time Trial star rating of 90 [Pure Time Trials][Gold] (0.0 OMGWTFBBQ that is all i have to say)

Cheers!

EDIT: The time trial map pack will be released on the 29th, it will be FREE!, AND one of the maps (it might be more, or all of them aswell, I do not know for sure) will be exclusive to the PS3... HOORAH! (info gained from the playstation store's new video for the new map pack)

Cheers!

This and MotorstormR are still on my list of games to get.

I really liked the demo. Glad to see that the devs are still releasing new content.

I played this game for a sec at my buddies and it was fun i would get it but its one of those games if you beat it im sure it would just sit on my shelf. Ive been trying to make wise purchases lately. Been debating on either getting MGS4 or oblivion lately. But this game was awesome and fun from what i did play2009-01-23 00:21:00

It's a pretty good game. Undoubtedly flawed, but for what it is, it's something you shouldn't miss out on. The only glaring flaws it suffered from was that it depended too much on trial-and-error, guess-what-the-developer-was-thinking style puzzles, and forced combat sections despite the game telling you that combat is something you should avoid all together.2009-01-23 05:59:00

well you are not forced in to combat, you can get through the game without firing a single shot at anyone even on hard, I bet you could even do it without a single punch, kick, or disarm. So even thought that the option to fight is there, you do not need to do it.

Yes you are. During the segment in the last level before you reach the roof, you have to kill everyone in the room before you can use the elevator. It's not fun because if you screw up a disarm even once, you are absolutely dead. Oh, and you can't forget:

The bossfight with Celeste.

Played through it once, enjoyed it. Sold it. It's not a replayer for me. There are some good points and I will buy or rent a sequel, but it's just not worth keeping IMO. Too many corridors, too much bloom, not enough of a likable character, not enough juxtaposition on what the heck the runners are really doing in the first place and no real reason given why the regular police would be sending attack helicopters against someone delivering messages.2009-01-23 07:40:00

did you play the game at all? >_> or did you just skip all of the cut scenes or just not pay attention. *sigh* oh well, we all have our own opinions right?

Cheers!

I've still not finished it.
It was great fun and the time trials are pretty cool.
Got 2 levels left in the story I think.
Kinda got a bit repetitive, was hoping for a more gripping storyline but it's a bit dull.
I'll go back to it at some point but for just now I'm getting platinum on W@W and trying to finish my LBP level

One thing i can say is that this is an easy platinum. I suggest completing the story mode. then heading over to the time trials (WATCH THEM ON YOUTUBE to figure out the best routes) Once you are all done there, go and do the speed runs on the levels (great especially before you do hard so you can just blaze through it on hard with no shots fired). After you are done with that you should be REALLY familliar with the levels, So then blaze through it on hard with no shots fired, and then finally finish off any trophies that you still have left. Should take you about 20-40 hours to do all of that which is not long at all when you concider that the LBP platinum will take a long time because you need to make a good level which will take about 40+ hours... and then for R2 it would take about 100+ hours becuase of the 10k kills trophy. The Burnout Paradise platinum would take about 50 hours (unless you know what you are doing and are already good at it. I did it in about 30 hours)

Cheers!

BOOOOO
Watching them on youtube is cheating
I managed the first time trial 3 stars on my own and I was pretty proud of it, tried some others and FAILED MISERABLY
What's a speedrun? Are they unlocked after you complete the game?

trust me if you watch them on youtube it will be much easier to follow than one of the top times of all time (you can get use the ghosts of top time peoples, and see what route they took soo i guess that is cheating too, but you were given the ability to download ghosts from other people >_> its just that doing it on youtube is much easier to follow and see the exact route they are taking.) and yes i got 3 stars on the first one no prob too, but even seeing these routes on youtube i was still only able to get 1 star on one or two.

A speedrun is that you have to do a chapter in a set amount of time. If you do the time trials first, then they will help you because some of those things are actually snipits of levels and knowing the best routes in those snipits will shave off loads of seconds from your time so you can complete the speed run succesfully. And since after that you will know the levels so well, Doing and balzing through hard should be no problem.

Cheers!

Well, I have the game, and got up to the subway section. It just got really boggy, repeatative and hard for me. I'm never really a master of context precise timing button press gaming, and this one is full of it. I'd really struggle on precise button press situations and the longer the game goes on, the more of them it has.

I loved the basic theme of the game though, it really does capture the feel of running around in an amazing but beleivable way really well.

But it just got too hard, slow and boring for me. I might come back to it in the future though. It's got some good premise and when it's all working well it's great.
