Side-Scrolling Endless Runners?

Archive: 3 posts

I've always wondered how people make these so well. I've actually tried multiple times to make one, but I've never gotten further than just making the ground move. I have a basic idea laid out, but I don't know how to add those elements that keep you engaged, and by that, I mean the randomly appearing upgrades, the obstacles, the enemies and all that.

What I'm trying to do is make a side-scroller with an animated character (yes, it's been done before, recently as well, but I've always wanted to try my hand at it, and I already had the guy planned out), obstacles, enemies that you can hit, and a few upgrades as you run along. I don't want to just make it run, jump, run, duck, run, jump, etc. Does anyone have experience with this?
Basically...
How do I get obstacles, enemies, and upgrades to appear randomly, fairly, and consistently?

Thanks. :hero:

I really like that smiley.

Hey Sackapoi, I'm no logic pro and don't really have much (any) experience with infinite scrolling or runners... BUT i would suggest checking out Comphermc's tutorial on infinite scrolling (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEplXDGqtAM) to familiarize yourself with everything you need to know on the mechanics. as for obstacles appearing randomly you could always have a a bunch of emitters connected to a randomizer. or you could have a sequencer with a bunch of emitters on it to emit your enemies etc. Anyways good luck!2013-03-11 05:12:00

You could also look at this one.... It's basic but it does help.... I myself had the same problems.... I don't intend to use the system fully unless I become a master at it. I just muck around with it tho
