Advanced Path-finding AI

Archive: 5 posts

I have been wanting to do this ever since I got LBP2; make AI logic that goes from point A-B, but with obstacles in the way and being able to move around those objects. A good example of this type of logic is in urbandevill's RTS "BattleGround X - RTS MOVE - 1.3"....still a bit buggy, but its the only one I've seen.

I'm sure that its crossed one persons mind out there.

Definitely a great challenge if your looking for one!

For my level Zombie Epidemic, I used tags and 2 different tag sensors for the zombies in combination with a look-at rotator and local space mover-based system. If a zombie detected the tag for an obstacle at its left at x range, it would change the mover it was using to one that would make it move right. If it detected an object to its right, it would move left. If it knocked into an object, it would activate a mover causing it to move backwards. I can't show you the microchip to see how this works right now, I'm not at my PS3, but you can examine how it works if you play my level. Unfortunately, it only works effectively with small barriers, and I haven't been working to attempt to improve the logic at all.

hairybones1997 developed a pretty rough but functional AI system where the AI moved in a certain direction based on how they contacted pieces of hologram set up around a wall. I don't have the logic to that, though.

setting up borders and reaction points are the best bet. Lots of impact sensors, tag sensors, and tags. Also, create an order of precedence with the reactions. I.e. if object A touches x it moves left. If object A touches y it moves right. Well without an order of precedence theres a chance that object A could get stuck. So you would set up a system where x over-rides y. so when it meets x and y it will move left and not right, or worst case scenario it negates itself and becomes stuck.2013-03-19 02:10:00
