Cloning Material Objects Suggestion

Archive: 3 posts

When you clone most things in the game, such as collected items like fences, trees, beach balls, you are able to change their size and rotation to make them completely different. So if I have a medium-sized beach ball and clone it, I can clone myself a large-sized beach ball, leaving me with both a medium AND large-sized beach ball. Right?

However, say I've made one half of a roof out of rusty metal, which is a material, and I suppose counts as a custom-made object. Now, I want to add some designs to the middle of it by cutting holes out of it. I've done that, and I'm happy with it. Now I want to simply clone it, spin it round and place that exact same roof piece on the other side to make a fully completed roof. I can enlarge it and rotate it, yes, but now I've decided I don't want it to look 'exactly' the same, or perhaps it wasn't quite long enough and I want to add a little extra width to the end beam. I cannot click on the cloned piece and edit the shape, without it doing the exact same thing to my original piece. I don't want to modify the original piece though, that bit's fine, I only want to modify the cloned piece. Once cloned, can those objects please stand alone? It would really help me and the way I build.

Just thought I'd throw the idea out there. Whether it'll be read or not, I don't mind. Got to post it somewhere haven't you?

Have you tried making the object unique in its tweak menu? This makes it so the object can be altered with out affecting clones... If that is what you are after.2013-03-10 01:34:00
