Rebellious Corner Editor Tools?!?

Archive: 9 posts

Why the hell won't everything I touch work the FIRST TIME ROUND?

Or in this case, the 15th.

Anyway, for some totally bogus **** man, the Corner tool won't work randomly. Either the corners won't friggin' move, or I can't make or delete any corners, no matter what.

It happened once when I tried to sculpt some glass around some land, but it suddenly started working when I tried a combination of switching to pause/play, ungluing/gluing, breaking/applying a "Popit Spell" (when you move something and it floats until you exit the menu etc.), but now when I try to sculpt another piece of whatever, it STILL WON'T WORK.

Any clues?

PS. My most recent attempt, where I unglued everything attached to the section of level I was working on resulted in me accidentally destroying my pretty new icicles that I made for decoration, until I undo'd it back. I'd really like it if I could find a solution then that wouldn't put fragile objects at risk in future.

I mentionned this bug already in the forum somewhere.

It IS buggy (like 99% of the game's features lol). When you hit a certain angle between 2 points it won't let you modify the shape anymore.

Also, sometimes you can't add more points for no apparent reasons. It's really annoying. If this was fixed I'd be using it ALOT more. I mean, I would shape EVERYTHING with it.

This and the freaking grid that isn't "fix" but related to where was your cursor was when you put it on. Ridiculous bugs killing half the usefulness of some truly awesome tools...

This is actually the next thing I've set my eyes on to try and figure out why it's so freaking unpredictable. I know there are some serious frustrations with it, and god knows I've been victim to many of them. Hopefully, I'll be able to answer you question as to why it's so enraging to use. The real beef of it is, is that it's a fantastic tool to use... but the thing is just so rediculously unpredictable. But, yes. I can whole-heartedly empathize with you.2009-01-22 22:12:00

Like most things, it is probably not REALLY buggy, I think it has some purposely designed limitations that look like bugs. Mostly it happens when you have stuck 2 things together. When you try to edit the corners from the rear one, it won't let you because you're trying to move the "base" from the front material.

To use an anology, you're trying to tug a tablecloth from under a set-up table, something is on it and the game wont let you ruin the plates and glasses.

To work around it you must make sure you edit a corner in such a way that it won't disturb the attached stuff. You could first creat some extra corners by cutting out a square from the rear material and corner editing these corners. This should work.

I haven't tested this thoroughly but I have a feeling that this is at least part of the problem/solution. It worked for me several times anyway.

It's a shame, it is far and away the best tool in the game, for creating custom content...2009-01-23 08:54:00

@Wyth

I did try that. It worked-ish on one occasion when I was trying to wrap glass around land, but even so, this is the other side of the **** material which is nowhere near anything else, and even with that method it still won't work.

Mostly I'm attempting to cut time with the corner editor by deleting corners in such a way that it auto-fills large objects, but I also want the control that comes with it so it doesn't just become a huge block, but a block with a shaped dent in it.

Yeah, it has some issues that are beyond me...

If I understand correctly what you want to do there might be a better way.

Create the larger object (your glass), completely filled (no hole in the middle) in the shape you want.

Create the smaller object (land) apart from the large one.

Select and copy the smaller object and embed it in the large one.

Actually, I was attempting to make the land the larger part, and simply making the top slippy so it turns into a slide.

I could just have it be glass (no land), although it wouldn't look very...

Err...

Enviromentally valid? (at least for something more than just a platform)

Besides, the landmass is hard to sculpt with the craft tools alone, which is one more reason why the c-editor not working is a *****.

that tool is very important but has some massive problems.... you have to control it well and understand how it works.... sometimes it simply stop working when your shape becomes too complicated and you have to find sharpely the red icon to grab the existence point or you create another that could mess with the final shape permanently...

i think it could be very improved.......
