Gates/doors

Well, I like to lead up to a boss by having a really complex looking door which is simple to open but looks great! So you come up to a door, pull a lever and then a mechanism pulls parts of the door away or something similar. I'm wondering whether I could get this latest door to work.

Ok, so the circles are magnetic keys and the squares magnetic key switches. The things coming off the door are pistons. The idea is for the middle circle to rotate, putting the magnetic keys in range of their switches, which activates the pistons which will pull those two quarters away from the rest of the door. As they are pulled away, the other magnetic keys will come in range of their switches and activate something to get rid of them (possibley pistons, or perhaps explosives to blow them up.
It may seem complicated to make, I was wandering if anyone thought it would work or what materials would be best.
Also, I'd like to see your designs or ideas for complex doors or gates.

Um.. if the inner circle rotates, I dont think anything will happen...
unless the part with the red keys and the middle part with the blue keys are attached? :S

I'm trying to figure out some problems I've been having so I probably won't test some stuff out to help you.. but I'd like to see how you get the middle circle to rotate and then get pulled away into the 4 pieces. (that's if the door does what I think it does O_O)

This design looks oddly familiar... I have a wall puzzle in my "Idol" level that works in much the same way (two rotating inner circles and an outer circle with pistons that pull each half away.2009-01-22 20:26:00

I'll go and have a butchers at that then! I'll edit later when I've seen it, is it a collectable in the level?

That is very interesting....how exactley does this work? I can't quite see how you've managed to get them to turn, but it works great.
Oh and BTW, great level. I found a glitch though, I think. When you're battling the guy at the end, if you hold onto the grab switch then it pulls you up into the ceiling and it's hard to get down!
