Upcoming LBP Patches

Media Molecule posted a rundown of the upcoming patches for LittleBigPlanet. The next patch (which should release in February) will address most of the more prominent issues, many of which were introduced in the most recent patch. There's also a teaser about a patch coming in a couple of months that adds some new creative options! Click through for the whole article.

Hello all,

We have an update for you on some upcoming LBP patches!

Since returning from our much needed break we have been busy working on a mixture of things (fixes, some new & exciting stuff and the code clean up I mentioned a while back). You may know by now that we name each of our LittleBigProjects after cheeses! We are soon going to be adding a new feature to our website, ?the cheese board?, where we?ll keep detailed information on all the various LBP cheeses, as they mature. That way you?ll have a good idea of what?s coming up. Until then a written update will need to do!!

Edam contains a set of bug fixes and is currently in testing. We are hoping for this to be out into the world by mid February (fingers crossed). Specifically the fixes are:

Failed to save profile? message not being displayed when a users profile is full.
Object Capture Bug: switch connectors being deleted when an object is captured.
Failed to load profile issue :where the user is thrown out to the XMB due to a texture that is not registered in their profile being present in their pod.
Text not displaying in the text chat window.
Slow rewind due to moderation check.
Save file corruption which caused the game to crash when placing any object in an emitter in any level.

Cornish Yarg contains many fabulous things, most excitingly new creative abilities ? woo!! This will be a big delivery and so we want to make sure that it gets to you without any bugs and so we are planning very extensive testing which may involve some of you guys (more details out soon). This has only just started the testing process which usually takes 6-8 weeks minimum. Further announcements will be made in February.

Leerdammer: This delivery will really help people who are experiencing issues with lagging/packet loss. This improvement is still in development, which means it will be out after Cornish yarg but we aren?t sure when, rest assure Amy is hard at work. Announcements will be made throughout feb.

Wow... cool!

Though I must admit that having to wait till mid February is a bit of a downer :/. I guess the LBPC story will hold off me creative juices till then :/.

So... all this time, this whole flurry of communicating with the server was just to check if the level had been moderated??? I am not pleased

Personally, I'm waiting for two things: non lethal fog, and the ability to change the darkness in one room, while the next room is the same. In essence, being able to tweak the lighting of certain parts of the level, could be used like a camera zone: chose the area, and the effect. 2009-01-22 21:29:00

Haha, I'd actually forgotten about those. I don't think they really matter too much to be honest, but it'd be cool if they gave us some idea of how many levels we've played or something.

It doesn't sound like the saving bug is adressed...

You know, the one that it simply doesn't save without any apparent reasons except maybe a profile that weights too much.

I disagree. Let me requote:

That sounds like they are working on this exact issue. The majority of the time that people have the "save profile bug" it seems to be because their profile becomes full, the game for some reason does not tell us that this is the case and stops saving anything.

If they can get that message to be more reliable it should help, at least in part, to clear up the issue.

My guess is that it could be an image import tool. Creating stickers in Photoshop, then importing them from the PS3 hard drive will make user created levels much cooler.

Hm, Online Co-op create sounds good since they DID say it would be the first major patch...

The MGS would count as DLC and not a patch, so technically we can't say we've had a really major one...

At this point I think we can all agree that Online coop was most assuredly scheduled to be released earlier, but I can understand that it must be increadibly tricky to do and so got substancially pushed back. I'm dying for this feature to come out. I'm not interested in passing a level around to work on it with others, but when we can goof off together and put skills together at the same time, that'll be awesome.

Yea that would be a pain... Maybe that's part of the reason for such delays!

I've only played with two people in create mode once to get that trophy, and that was with myself, so I can't say how bad it is- but I must say it must be HORRIBLE.

However, something that's been bothering me- would it just be on one person's moon? How what it work? Ah well, i'll just wait...

Yeah, it's pretty infuriating. You have to be very patient, and if the two of you aren't working on the same thing, it's hopeless (and it's exponentially worse on standard def). There are a few things that I would very very VERY much like to see done with create mode. One is of course online co-op, and MAN would it make me happy to be able to finally do it. Risen and I have been working on a level for a while together, but I have to be at his place whenever we want to work on it... which can be very tedious. Online co-op would be a godsend.

Secondly, split screen local co-op would be great. I know there are some games out there where the cameras merge into one when you're close enough (this wouldn't be necessary, but might be nice). P1 can still do all the controls with time (rewind, etc) but just give p2 a camera to do what they want! It would make co-creating so much easier.

I suppose we sit back and wait... but I doubt that online co-creating will be in this patch. It seems like one of those things you'd mention.

The problem with co-op creation offline right now is exactly as said, the camera is a real pain. If you want to do highly detailed work, like wiring a very small and complex switch system, you both have to be close together to zoom the camera in, and then it's quite likely someone will block the camera view point that you need to see.

Sure, it's fun and fine to make simple run and jump stuff with what we have, but you can't do detailed stuff with the combined camera as it is.

I think that online Co-op creating will create an explosion of awesome new levels. The ability for two people across the globe to come together and share ideas sounds AWESOME to me. It's one thing to tell someone how you did something but an entire different animal for you to show them.

Sharing ideas in real time....great stuff!!!

Heck, creating with someone on the other side of town would be nice... Schedules are a royal pain to get aligned!!
