Moving objects attached to other moving objects

Archive: 7 posts

Hello! I go on PSN as SPetri, so who knows if you have seen me racing or not. I need help with this interesting yet very glitchy game.

Ok. Motors. I want to know the consistent way to attach multiple moving objects together. For example I made an alien that the main body moves back and forth on a piston, but its eye is on a hinge that moves back and forth as well. I thought the process was either grouping them together or gluing them, but further tests it isn't always the case. Sometimes the first motor gets overwritten with the latest one or they aren't moving together in live mode. I need a concrete answer to this issue before continuing.

I really want to make good looking and complex tracks, you know? Not the bare bones no thought stuff I see scattered on newest.

I have just finished a level which uses groups of moving objects for a custom character, and Panda who walks around (here's the level thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=78425-Love-Panda-(single-player-rpg)&p=1088623#post1088623)). I did most of the work before the game update, so it's possible that some things have changed.

You're on the right track with grouping, you don't want to glue. However I've found the game is very specific about what types of motors can work within the same group. I haven't tried every possible combination, but it seems to do better with combining motors of the same or similar type. For instance I was able to combine several hinges and a rotator, but not a piston and a rotator.
I made my Panda using 6 hinges. I was able to attach a Path motor to the panda, but is kept breaking my groups and took a lot of tries re-grouping before it finally worked.
If you group moving objects together and any of the motors stop working, try using the Capture tool instead of the Group tool. The Capture tool also groups the objects, but I've found that it's less likely to interfere with the motors.

Ah, so you are the one with the panda RPG! I actually stumbled upon that one by accident before when doing random searches. To get slightly off topic, I did enjoy the ruins level.

Anyway, thank you. I'll try capturing them instead.

Another option that might be helpful (depending on how many items you have to move) is pressing down on the d-pad. When you do, a plus symbol appears on the cursor and works a lot like the grouping tool, except it doesn't bind them together. Looking forward to seeing what you can cook up!2013-03-03 03:18:00

I had this exact problem yesterday. I want a character to walk across the track, turn round, then walk straight back the other way, but I couldn't combine a piston with a rotator.2013-03-03 10:04:00

For that, you might do it all with a Path and follower motor

If you team is shifting things together and any of the engines leave the workplace, try using the Catch device instead of the Group device. The Catch device also categories the things, but I've discovered that it's less likely to intervene with the engines.
