Mr. Radical's Classroom

Archive: 21 posts

My name is Mr. Radical... and I'm disappointed in each and every one of you. Really.

To learn about culture, you go out and watch mind rotting reality television. You fuel your baser urges by playing your needlessly violent video games. You exemplify narcissism by posting endless pictures and "tweets" about you and your life. Instead of helping the world, you waste away your days online watching your "Harlem Shakes" and your "lolingCats"...

I don't think I have any chance of saving any of you...

But I'm going to at least try to educate you.

Do me a favor... gather you friends, gather your family... get everyone together and sit down in front of your computer. I'll be posting a series of educational videos I've gathered from the internet. If you watch enough of these, hopefully I might be able to jumpstart your devious, underdeveloped minds...

Time to learn. We start with nature.

Simply astonishing. I presume the baby echidna will be discussed next class? Eventually. Though I think the forum needs a bit of a lesson on culture next.2013-03-01 17:11:00

Just the kind of attitude this thread was working to erase... Self improvement doesn't come easy. Trust me - watch the videos. They'll improve your mind, your soul... your life.

Continuing my efforts to bring a bit of civility to the LBP community, we turn our focus to learning about other cultures. Tonight I present you with an instructional video on how to properly eat at a Japanese sushi shop. Pay attention, even watch it a few times if you have to. Learn as much as you can so you won't make a fool of yourself if you ever end up at a sushi shop in Japan.

Thank you. Now, if you'll excuse me from class, I will fly to Japan to try out my new skills.

My name is Mr. Radical... and I'm disappointed in each and every one of you. Really.

To learn about culture, you go out and watch mind rotting reality television (Nope). You fuel your baser urges by playing your needlessly violent video games (Nope). You exemplify narcissism by posting endless pictures and "tweets" about you and your life (Nope). Instead of helping the world, you waste away your days online watching your "Harlem Shakes" (****it, got me with that one, I like the Norwegian army one) and your "lolingCats"...(Nope)]
I guess while I'm here I may as well post something useful.

This is a Stirling Engine, they were very popular back in the early 1800's but fell out of favour to the internal combustion engine. The Stirling engine is an external combustion engine and is powered by a difference in temperature.

They are mechanically very simple, with very few moving part making them easy to build, maintain and fix.
Their external combustion nature means their fuel source can be anything that burns or generates heat (petrol, wood, rubbish, coal even the sun!).
There is no steam or chemical reactions happening inside the engine making them safe from explosions.
They are significantly more efficient than the classic internal combustion engine.
The consistent torque production is perfectly suited for pumping and electrical generation.

A seemingly perfect machine for 3rd world communities, sustainable/off-grid living, disaster aid etc, yet the only ones that exist are either desktop models or huge industrial coolers (they can also run in reverse to either cool or heat too).

What a joke.

Time for your physical education...

From what I've seen, you all don't seem to be the most athletic bunch. I don't expect any of you to suddenly become an Olympic athlete overnight, but a little physical exertion wouldn't kill you. (Unless it would, at which point this just becomes that much sadder.) Back in the day, kids actually went outside and played sports, saw some sunlight, got their bodies actually moving... Nowadays I'd be willing to bet that a doubleclick on your mouse might be the extent of some people's daily exercise...

I've heard all the excuses before - not enough time, gyms are too expensive...

We'll I've got a solution that won't let any of you hide behind your weak justifications any longer.

This apparatus is available at most retailers for less than $20. A full workout with it takes only minutes.

For today's class, watch this instructional video. And as soon as you can get to a store, do your best to follow along...

Incredible! I've just ordered two, I'm confident that when I'm done with this, people will just start calling me Lieutenant 'Man.

If you want to be super fit and still save money, there's a superb fitness DVD worth ordering as well. But this video should give you some great ideas to work with while you're still waiting for it to arrive.

I wish I could say these videos have been helpful but I'm incapable of improving as an individual, there are indeed limits to knowledge and physical capability.2013-03-03 11:52:00

We might have survived the worst of flu season, but that's no excuse to let your guard down. I imagine most of you don't even know how to wash your hands. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of you hadn't even heard of soap.

My favorite instructor always told me, if you're dealing with heathens, at least try to deal with clean heathens...

So today's class is all about germs. Pay attention.
