Creativity - My tips and tricks :)

Howdy ![]() Whenever you find yourself experiencing the creator's block, or the blank page syndrome, a good idea is to sit somewhere comfortable, close your eyes and flush everything going on in your mind. The idea that you HAVE to create, that you HAVE to deliver "something", your responsibilities and expectations, your ideals, even who you are, it all has to go away ... basically, revert back to a "state of nothingness" - everything should go away, including emotions. Breath. Breath. Breath. Focus on the act of breathing, and only that... once you don't feel anything anymore, when your mind is completely void, ask yourself "What am I trying to express in this project? What feeling am I trying to convey to the players?" We have to do that because creativity simply isn't compatible with logic. As an example, animals can be creative like us, but don't think like we do. You have to accept creativity is something out of your control. It's something you "feel", it's a part of you that is always there but only when the last form of thinking left is asking yourself the questions that will HELP achieving what you are trying to express. Be bold. Think outside of the box, shatter the bindings of "good sense"... it only gets easier with time. Listen to music and let yourself visualize the most crazy and random stuff with the song. Look at paintings or scenery pictures and transform the emotion you feel into a sound... you have to focus on those feelings and wonder "how can I bring this in my project?" If the answer doesn't pop up... go back to that "state of nothingness"...breath...feel...breath...feel... you don't have to worry, you're doing this because it's fun. Some people may like the results, some may not, it could even go unnoticed... SO WHAT!? You had fun making it and that's what matters. Cheer up, learn to relax and you'll hear the creativity's call. How you answer is entirely up to you! It's YOUR vision, YOUR project so there are no wrong ways to go on about it ![]() Random tip #1 Don't go mad over perfection but do believe your project can always be improved, can always be made more intuitive and more artistically expressive. The worst thing you can do to both yourself and your project is getting lazy and betraying it. If you're legitimately tired (falling asleep when trying to empty your mind), just take a nap and come back to it later. Remember, it's supposed to be fun ![]() Random tip #2 A thick and stuck blood doesn't help the brain ![]() ![]() Random tip #3 Do what you feel is right, not what you think is right !! Random tip #4 Just because your project is getting "physically" bigger doesn't mean you have to restrain yourself or be more careful ![]() ![]() Random tip #5 HAVE FUN !!! LBP is a game, you're not creating on contract ![]() | 2013-02-24 03:38:00 Author: Rovelius ![]() Posts: 74 |
Nice tips, defiantly agree with Step 5, i wont create anything i don't have the inspiration or skills to create. (Logic often trips me up). I suggest adding a step #6 Create lists if your creating a large level it helps break down it into manageable chunks. Nice advice. ![]() | 2013-02-24 14:14:00 Author: Spaceraoul28 ![]() Posts: 175 |
