Hello everyone!

We’re back with a new contest to get your creative juices flowing again! This time (and we think it’s a first) the contest is for both LBP2 and LBP Vita entries. A Crown and LBPC pin will be awarded to the winner of each category. The winning LBP2 level will also get recorded.

The challenge is to create a level based on the theme of time travel. The level must feature at least two different time zones and you must build a stylish time machine to warp between them. Other than that the only limits are those of your imagination... and the general space time continuum!

So when will you choose? Jurassic / Future sci-fi, Wild West / Medieval, Chicago Mob / End of the world, Today / the 1970s? The sky’s the limit here, so just select whatever inspires you the most. The same applies to your time machine. We want wonderful crazy machines of all kinds: be they futuristic, steampunk or cardboard and sticky tape in true Craftworld style!

So whether you’re into logic and contraptions or like to focus mainly on scenery, story and special effects, there should be something in this theme for you. Maybe show some cause and effect between the player's actions in each time period, pile on the paradoxes or perhaps just wow us with your stunning interpretations of two different historical periods. We are really looking for originality and creativity in whatever way you approach the theme. On that note, we would love to see Vita creators making use of all those exclusive Vita features and showing us things that just can't be achieved on the PS3!

Good luck time travellers... and we'll see you later... or earlier... err...

Building requirements and rules

• Create an original previously unpublished level of any genre (except movies - see below) based on the theme of time travel. The level must feature at least two different time zones and you must build a time machine to switch between them.

• The level must include gameplay so no movie levels, please! It can contain cutscenes.

• One level slot/thermo per entry. No level-linking of any kind and for this contest no cross-controller levels either. Wormholes within a level without using the cross-controller functionality are allowed, however.

• Originality is the name of the game. That means levels featuring a Tardis or DeLorean as a time machine will be sternly frowned upon! Both are very cool methods of transport but we would much rather see something from your own imagination!

• Publish your levels between 1st and 7th April 2013 (final deadline is 11.59 GMT on 7th April) and include the text “(LBPC10)” in the title of the level.

• Post LBP.me links to your levels in this thread, so we’re sure not to miss them!

• All entries must be playable in either LittleBigPlanet 2 OR LittleBigPlanet Vita.

• You can only enter one level. This means you must choose to enter either an LBP2 or a Vita entry NOT BOTH.

• After the deadline, do not republish. Levels republished after the deadline will be disqualified. Exceptions may be made for quick fixes with respect to level titles, description, badges, or major game-breaking fixes, but only with the prior consent of the contest crew. If you need to request an edit, please post in this thread and send me a PM.

Also a little Handy FAQ for you all

Q: Can I enter a previously published level?
A: No.

Q: Can I enter a level I already have on my moon, but hasn't yet been published?
A: Yes.

Q: Once I've published my entry, can I republish it?
A: You can republish it during the publishing window as many times as you like, but mustn't republish after the deadline.

Q: When will the judging begin?
A: The judges may take a look at some levels prior to the deadline, but the judging proper will not begin until after the deadline.

Q: When will the results be posted?
A: We can't really give any accurate answer to this, but it will be no more than a month after the judging begins.

Oh my gosh, you just can't imagine how fitting this contest is for me. Ehem:

The very first level I tried to make for LBP 1, 2 and VITA was about time travel, basically any of them fit the requirements; anyway, I have never ever been able to complete them.

Soooooo this is the perfect oportunity to bring all those ideas into a single entry! I am aiming high this time guys, you better watch your backs

If I can stop playing PSASBR, that is.

EDIT: Now the real question is should I make the level in LBP2 or Vita?

Hey all. I think I might actually give this one a go if I can get over the creator apathy that has been plaguing me since 2009. That's right. Creator apathy. It is a thing, and it is caused by bomb survivals!2013-02-23 20:58:00

Do you think I'd be able to make a level in which your sackperson travels to different time zones through 'rifts'? Like, parts of the level which are divided by shimmering visual effects, and on the other side is another time zone?2013-02-23 21:29:00

Sounds like a great plan to me. But I'm not an official, nor am I really around LBPC much anymore, so what do I know. I am planning something similar, though I would center the time travel in specific around an object or something concrete to satisfy the "time machine" clause of the contest's rules.

The effects sound cool. You have to include a time machine to switch between the different zones though, but, time machines can come in all different shapes and sizes. use your imagination and i'm sure you can make your idea work.

Tough decision. We think that adds a nice extra dimension to this contest.

We've deliberately kept the rules to a minimum with this contest, as long as you meet them, then it's pretty much anything goes. let your imagination run wild!

Thank you. One trick here is to use all the level DLC I can.

Here's what I planned. I would go through some archeological theme at start and warp to the year AD 4012 (4012 C.E. on the other hand) at the end.

As usual, the crown and pin will be awarded to the account that publishes the entry but we don't usually stop friends from helping you.

The worm hole is a tool added with the cross controller DLC, we're simply saying you can use it... it's not required but you can if you want. Just remember - originality wins points with us.

Already have a level planned out called "TEMPA DESTINY" that deals with time travelling. The whole original soundtrack has already been made, I already hired all my helpers, and am ready to compete. Here is the story.

Start in England, where a lab there needs a diamond, a specific diamond, from 500 B.C. in Mexico. More specifically, the mayans.

You go back in time (time machine has not been decided) and go into a mayan world, where you spawn in a field of greenery. You go through the woods, and into a temple. Once there you go through the temple, get the diamond, and leave the temple.

You go back to the place you spawned in the mayan world, and retrieve the diamond.

But once you get back to England, there is a twist...

-----

Good luck to everyone, and make this the best 1st contest I have been in!

Only the publisher - the term "winners" was used as there will be a winner for both lbp2 and vita. You CANNOT enter a level for both... so choose wisely.

Little question! Do these time periods have to be identificable with time periods such as jurassic, wild west, etc. or can we take this time travel concept and create something like travelling between a city in all its glory and then using the time machine to travel to its ruins?2013-02-24 03:37:00

@Jauw2 - The Crown will definitely go to the account under which the level is published. If it's a true co-create level then there may be some flexibility to award the pin to the other team member instead. We wouldn't want to be awarding pins to someone who just helped out a little on a level, however, so it would have to be a genuine joint effort. 2013-02-24 11:07:00

This is a tricky question, I would say good visuals is a strong sense of visual cohesion, and a solid, but limited palate for your level. Understanding of shapes, and negative space, and placement of objects in the level is also an element.

Of course "good" is a subjective term, basically we want to see that you've put thought into your visual style and made an effort to fit that style with the rest of your level.
A limited palate is a good suggestion because it helps keep your level from overheating, and that's often a problem for creators (like me) who like to make visually complicated levels.

A level can still be visually complex and keep to a limited palate. Comphermc is the master when it comes to this kind of jazz. He uses roughly 3-4 materials per level and never seems to go over, but his levels are eye candy.2013-02-24 17:41:00

I didn't read anything about time constraints, but I could be wrong. Also, I always love levels that go past a few minutes. Usually then end up funner, but quantity =/= quality, so keep that in mind.2013-02-24 18:16:00

Would it be possible for a Vita Level to win, if it doesnt feature the new features lol... ? U know it really gets old after a while.... often enough this touchy touchy, tilty tilty things just gets used for the sake of it.... its not that lbpv is all about that...

Do u put much weight on this aspect or would it be possible for a real quality level on the vita to win, even if it doesnt include any of the new vita features?

Absolutely, lol! As a player I just get a real heart sink every time I see that the rear touch screen needs to be used for platforming! It's the overall experience that counts and if you can make an interesting and imaginative level without using all the frilly bits, feel free! We just want to find levels that make us go "wow, that was cool" and there are so many different ways of doing that. Just pick what suits you as a creator.

I feel the same way. The rear touch is good for some things, but LBP lends itself mostly to platforming, for which the rear touch is little more than a gimmick.

Your level should be as long as it needs to be
I mean go with what feels natural for your individual level, based on the style of gameplay and what the player has to do. You don't want to rush the player, but it's better to have them leave wanting more, rather than slow down the pace of your level to much.

• Create an original previously unpublished level of any genre (except movies - see below) based on the theme of time travel. The level must feature at least two different time zones and you must build a time machine to switch between them.

Can the Time Machine be a remote control, instead of physically walking into the machine?

The way I took it, there just has to be a "time machine" in the level for use switching between time zones. It doesn't matter if it is a physical mechanism, or something completely static, so long as it is a totem that takes you from one time to another.

I have a question; does this have to be multi-player compatable, or can we make them 1 player only? Because the way I'm doing it really needs to be 1 player, otherwise I may have to drop out.2013-02-24 21:53:00

@idgowans - creating a single player level is fine.

Dav1d0's edit:

If you want to make sure we play it single player, you could always leave a message in the title.

E.g. (LBPC10) <<Insert level name here>> (1 player only)

End of edit.

I seem to be comfortable with what I'm making. Here's the final question: Can I have a script in the level (where the sackbots talk to you in the level)? I already set out a character in the level.

I don't know about winning this time, because a lot are joining, and it'll be tough odds. Good thing I'm working on the level right now.

The golden rule is to be creative, you can take the concept of time machine in any direction you like.

I feel like I am going to have to quote you on that... One sec, let me get a screencap... Ok.

If you have a good time travel idea that takes place in one day go ahead!

From the rules:

So when will you choose? Jurassic / Future sci-fi, Wild West / Medieval, Chicago Mob / End of the world, Today / the 1970s?

That means levels featuring a DeLorean as a time machine will be sternly frowned upon!

Cool, I have some questions, sorry if they were answered before

1. Are we allowed to use a controllinator to control a sackbot instead of Sackboy?
2. How exactly should the time machine should be created? It could be anything like grabbing a sponge which activates a checkpoint or something than can be entered (like TARDIS) and move the player (without killing him or using a controllinator to teleport him)

Sorry if my english is bad

Hmmm... try using less materials, you can take a photo of a material then stick it on cardboard, it's not the same, but it consumes less thermo

my heart is pounding with excitement, iv been waiting to here about a new contest, and wow finally this might be an awesome one. in my opinion that last couple were a bit off the wall with LBP physics, mechanics being an issue. but this one for sure will bring many levels, especially now the vita stuff is super futuristic and pretty, i'm a bit jealous i don't have, maybe a disadvantage. and i'm sure we will see those back to the future levels again, run for it Marty! haa. this seems very doable for all to give it a shot. well hopefully my pencil has more magic left in it because i think that crown would make my bald head look pretty hahaha. good luck to all , this will be fun to see .2013-02-25 18:21:00

I do have a question.
How do you guys will judge the history? In this contest, the history will count more than the level itself? because my story isn't that thing (but contains the time travel theme). Also, is it difficult to create a cool story without a level link...

I dont't think it depends much on "real" history. Like mentioned before you are even able to make the beginning and the end of one day as seperate timeperiods.

yup, we had the high score challenge, a scavenger hunt, a trivia contest, all kinds of goodness but sadly, not many participated. This hurt the spotlight crew's feelings immensely.

Important question here...

Does the time machine have to be player controlled? My story's pretty complex so far (still haven't started building, just planning), and it'd be near impossible to have it make sense if you have to be able to switch times.

So... let's say the time machine's not player controlled, and there are cutscenes to show the use of the time machine. Would that be fine with you guys?

It doesnt really matter, aslong you make a kind of totem, that you could take with you.
It could be everything, from a phonecell to a little remote.
So it hasnt to be playercontrolled if you dont need it to.
Be creative....

Recording Vita is extremely difficult under normal circumstances. You almost have to use a physical camera.

And I have a question for some of the judges. I just realized that I am very niche in my taste in games, and my level is extremely difficult. Will this hinder my chances in any way if the level is too frustrating or too hard?

If we can't get far enough to see it, it's gonna be hard for us to judge it.

Every contest I post this level as an example of what difficulty not to do:

http://lbp.me/v/5rm70x

It's my personal entry to lbpc1 (no floor platformer) which no judge reached stage 2/3 because stage 1 was too hard... thus they could not judge it properly and my score was lowered dramatically... see if you can play through it without the shortcut sticker switches and you'll see what difficulty not to do. Part of the challenge is anticipating and building for others of varied experiences.

Ok. I will continue as planned. My level could easily be beaten with minimal frustration if you are a veteran Ghosts N Goblins player, but I have some qualms about everybody else. Myself, I can beat the first stage of what I have built so far with about 3-5 deaths average. But I might tone it down a bit. It is all about reflexes.

I'm still not sure about winning. I am good at making a Platformer, but like what I've seen in the Mm Picks, I'm not THAT good. I'm not saying that I'm giving in (well I'm not), but I couldn't make platformers that good because those are hard to ace and I can only make levels that I ace easily.

If I win this contest, I'll be overjoyed as I can finally get the crown.

If I lose, it won't be a negative response, but I don't know what to do. I'll have to think on that.

I will accept advice, but I won't need help from anybody. In fact, I wasn't asking for help. I was stating how I would feel when I have not-so-excellent skills while competing against a whole bunch of people.

I got pretty far, but I'll need to revamp the progress. It would slow me down, but I need to take my time.

We'll only consider one level for the contest. If you want to publish another level with a cutscene just for fun, that's fine - however it will not be considered by the judges.
I know it can be hard to fit everything into one level, but to be fair we have to stick with no level links rule.

I have a question as well can I use this as two time zones:

The player is in a futuristic lab with a wormhole he uses it to go back in time, but he keeps going back to the lab for very short amounts of time (for reasons I won't say here). Would that still count as two time zones even though he only spends a small amount of time in one?

I hate to tell you (and it sounds like I'm wasting out the fun), but I'm pulling myself out of the contest. I have no motivation in building a level that takes up that much thermometer space with fewer exciting materials.

If anybody can tell me what other way can I get the crown. Playing in the contest is one thing, but what's another way to get the crown?

This is not intended to be a rule-heavy contest. We are genuinely looking for creativity in the way entrants approach the theme. This means simply having more than 2 time zones won't boost your score; we'll be looking at what you do with them and whether it's imaginative etc. By the same token only having brief appearances in one of the the time zones is fine as long as there's a cool reason for it and there's still a sense of time travel in some way.

Can you control sackbots in the level?

this is very true, the level dose get overheated very fast when using over five materials. its pretty nuts ive been doing lots of testing with this. but there is ways around this, hoping to push through this one. if your giving up in less then a week of trying , your unworthy of the crown. haa. dont take that comment to seriously.

mm takes fan art. you maybe able to recieve your crown that way.

The only way to make a good level with just 5 materials is to stick with one theme opposed to the two you're asking for. If I want to do two themes, I have to use more than five materials and make a cheaply made Platformer. If I want to make two themes without wasting thermometer space, I'll have to use a level link in sub level, which is against the rules. That, and the fact that I cancel projects when bored are the main reasons why I'm dropping out.

Also, sending fanart to Mm is a cheap way of getting a crown. I'll need to do something more than that, but less than winning a contest.

I have a dumb question , possibly been answered, but my friend seen what ive been making and dosent think im pulling it off. So my question is how many times must the machine travel ? If i start my level in a modern time retrieve the time machine and go somewhere like prehistoric and just return back to modern day ,is that good enough? Or do you want this machine to (travel into two periods?)2013-03-02 03:04:00

Now I got some time to translate the description into Japanese.
コンテスト概要を日本語訳させていただきました。
日本の皆さんも一緒に楽しみましょう!
So, here it is!

LBPC第10回コンテスト A Stitch in Time

From OP:

The level must feature at least two different time zones and you must build a stylish time machine to warp between them. Other than that the only limits are those of your imagination... and the general space time continuum!

Modern time can be one of your time zone

I have a question! D:
Do we need to switch between two time zones, but this needs to be optional? Because in my lvl the player goes to the future (after playing on present) , and do not back to present. is that okay?

Good progress! I'm a bit in the level now... but the thermometer is over the half! And how long of the level have I created? 25% maybe, but it might went out well!

yeah, its good to here everyone's progress. keep everyone on there toes. After a long weekend myself i realized i made a giant level of garbage and i will totally start over , haha. not a therm problem, but more of pointless platforming problem. i will start fresh tonight. hopefully i learned my lesson and i wont let this speed-bump slow me down. i fear my opponents.2013-03-04 18:58:00

for everyone, who asks, if he should make the level on LBP Vita or on LBP2: I think it's better for both of us:
When you take part on LBP Vita you haven't got such a big group of people, that could have a better level than you.
And when you don't take part, there is one less person, who could have a better level than me

but that would meen, that I've one less level to play to, so maby it wouldn't be soo good for me

err my quesition: When I publish my Beta-level closed, so that ONLY BETA TESTER with a key can test it, is the level disqualified?

ps: sorry for my bad english I hope everyone understood what I ment... or mean?

Me and Seku (Sock_Pasta_Rock) have done some progress over the past week. We've made all the logic for the ... Wait! We can't tell you that, that's a surprise

But what we CAN tell you is that we've created several large gameplay sections, and more are on the way. I've drawn many gameplay sketches:

Mine's going surprisingly well. Usually by now I'd have given up on the contest! I'm progressing, though, to say the least. I have a story, characters, quite a bit of scenery and some of the sackbot logic done! Also this really fun "Loading" screen for when the main character travels to another time period. I hope I can pull this off without overheating the thermo. Next up will be finishing the scenery off on the gameplay areas and then the introduction cutscene.

How's everyone else getting on?

The thermometer for me is the only issue. But me & Seku are using the Emit/Destroy level design, which should make it easier for us to create, without worrying too much about the thermometer. Though the loading time will probably be longer than usual 2013-03-04 20:26:00

Yes, publishing locked for beta testing by key holders is fine

Jauw2 is quite right the rules say:

• One level slot/thermo per entry. No level-linking of any kind and for this contest no cross-controller levels either. Wormholes within a level without using the cross-controller functionality are allowed, however.

My "Chrono Logic" is perfect for this competition. It can "Rewind", "Slow Down", "Pause" and "Fast Forward" in real time, no silly camera tricks. Pretty much just manipulates time and effects the whole surroundings, besides yourself. It will be an actual game, not a platformer or level. Expect some serious competition from me guys, I'm in it, to win it.2013-03-05 17:11:00

I'll be on the PS3, very fortunate for you that I don't own a Vita, otherwise, I'd publish it on Vita. Very fortunate for everyone else, that I'm away from home 16 hours everyday on work days, leaves only 8 hours free to sleep/eat/bathe/nature stuff. However on my days off, I'm working hard on the project.2013-03-05 17:28:00

Yep, I'll let you beta test my level.
But something happened yesterday. My level was 50% done and when I was going to continue creating, AN ERROR OCCURED. I lost ALL my levels on my moon, including the LBPC10 level and Kiwi VS Orange level 5. Quite annoying. Now I need to remake all the levels! I want to throw my vita in a Toilet bowl. Seriously.

Can we have cameos from movies in the level?

For example, what if I wanted to include a rather humorous cameo of a Delorean, but its small and isn't actually the method of time travel. Would that be fine?

Not sure if I'm entering this or not, but I'm gonna try to produce a good level for this. The ideas are really starting to flow in.

Noooooooo! You know what? I updated my LBPVita to 1.08 today(or what-o-ever it was). And now I can't go in my LBPC10 entry on my moon, I can only play it. It is saying that it contains downloadable content that I don't own! This make me so irritated. I might just give up on this ****.

Idk if it's from the update, but it might be. Anyone else having these problems?
Should I make a new entry? I don't think so...

Sure,

but we've never actually made membership of this site a rule... we would have found the level anyway when we composed our lists for judging regardless if a link was posted here or not.

I actually changed my mind. I'm returning to the contest, but my level won't be as good as the earlier one. The first time zone is too short as the second one is more likely emphasized. I spent two hours in my room last night, planning out my level plot and the characters. Today, I spent at least two hours interpreting that into the game. So far, I've gotten about halfway through the first time zone, with the first part perfected. I plan to get more done tomorrow and Saturday, but maybe not Sunday because it's my birthday

Anyways, it's nice to see so much participation in this contest. Looks like I have worthy foes! Even if I don't win, I would have tried my hardest and that's the important thing. But that Crown...it's so shiny

No, if you check the rules again, you'll see that that we're only banning actual cross-controller levels, i.e. levels which would require both a PS3 and Vita to complete.

Just a quick question-how far apart do the two time zones have to be? Can they be...say...ten seconds apart? And do you have to go to both time zones yourself?

That's a toughie. It sounds as if you're pushing things a bit with the theme, which is time travel after all. BUT this is not meant to be a very prescriptive contest so if your idea involves playing with different times and someone or something travels between the two, go for it!

I have been going like crazy on this contest. Just for anyone interested, I have 4 weapons fully programmed, 7 enemy types fully programmed, the first stage complete, and player character and custom respawn points complete. I am going to be doing 4 stages total, with 9 enemy types per stage, and 1 boss per stage and 4 unlockable difficulty settings as well. It is just a lego building block game from here on out.2013-03-10 03:53:00

My new level takes place in the dungeons. The time travel part is a Tron based Platformer. When you use the time machine, you will go through this Tron-esque section, where you enter the future when you finish traveling through the Tron-esque section.2013-03-10 06:23:00

Man, i'm gonna be a huge competition for some people! I am just great at logic, the hint for my level? Well, i just hope that one of you likes either; Final fantasy, Chrono trigger, pokemon, and basically anything else pixelated with battling. I can already see the glory of the crown sitting on my head. But seriously, this will be a fun contest and goodluck to any other contest entrants!

Well Frog, I guarantee you that I will be your biggest threat in this competition. You may be great at Logic, but I've Mastered the Art of Logic on LBP2 and I'm applying some of them for this contest. Anywhere from highly Advanced and Flexible Damage/Health to Dynamic Camera, Upgrade System, Combo System, Grading System and many more unique stuff. And this is just a small project compare to other projects that's in the works. I hope everyone is bringing their A game cuz I expect a challenge.

I see another creator is making something that isn't a platformer, I look forward to playing that game.

Ooh I love mine so far, first scene is done. now for some p-... gameplay.... hehe

EDIT:

Okay, say I already had a crown. and I had two different accounts. one for vita and one ps3. Could I have the crown if I won for my vita even if I already had one for my ps3? and if not, can it go to the person who helped create the level with me?

Someone that is better than me in logic? Impossible.... I can't wait to see yours. Im making turn based battling, with leveling up systems, and I also have a great story. The level name? "Chronoseption". Take that Doctor who, here comes Doctor frog to play...2013-03-11 08:21:00

Oh yeah?! Well I got a platforming section, a flying section, and several cutscenes crammed into my level!

Seriously though, my opponents are so intimidating. I'm skeered. Really skeered.

I'm having to use the emit destroy technique, so now I'm starting to fall behind on my progress. Bleh. Just about the only things that are going really well for me at the moment is my research (yes, I'm using real scientific ideas from the uses of Helium-3 to the end of the universe), and the music, which me and a friend made together. Not doing as well as I'd hoped, mainly because my limited time weakens my ability to concentrate. But I still hope to win, of course. A man can dream...

Let me just say that you all better be scared. I have, like, the greatest idea ever in my levels. It's like, so awesome, that like, you're going to throw your Vita across the room because it is just so awesome. It's the best idea I've ever had, and it's, like, so amazing, and, like, your heads are going to explode.

I can't trash talk.

hello to all the talented creators entering this contest that's feeling very confident in there level. Glad to see your excitement, but i'm thinking the trash talking and bragging is very unworthy crown talk, haa. But i'm glad to see that there will be some fresh new levels at that end of the month . keep on creating with your awesomeness. is that a word? hahaa.

i love this contest, i worked on my level all weekend. I'm getting a little scared of my thermometer. i have half of my level left to go. i wish i had a time machine so i can go back to the first week i wasted. haa

okay im done babbling , needed to vent . tonight will be another long night . cant wait till this is over , i could go for some solid good sleep.

Ironically Frog, the name of my game is called "Chrono Shift", yes, I'm a fan of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, which is where I got the name from. I know it's hard to believe that someone is better than you at Logic, but I believe you have just met him. Keep in mind that is merely a small piece of my Logic expertise for this project. Best of luck to you and everyone else.2013-03-11 18:19:00

Glad to see so much creator enthusiasm
Just remember that winning a crown takes more than a mastery of logic or a great idea - it takes the execution of a complete gameplay experience, the right logic for that idea plus all the little personal touches that make a fabulous and original level.

True, which is why my game features new, never before seen gameplay in a very familiar genre. Nice Visuals that is interactive with main gameplay mechanics. A cool dynamic camera logic that no one has used before. The whole idea of manipulating time phases to take advantage of certain situations and also creates unique ways of approaching bosses and enemies. Added an RPG element by creating items that can be collected during the course of the game to increase your stats. A combo system to lure in hardcore gamers who loves aiming for the high scores. This is just the tip of the Iceberg.2013-03-11 20:23:00

@LoVeRiCe:
Lets see what you can come up with. Usually persons like you pull back in the last moment after hyping their levels incredibly. Sorry but I cant really believe your great your level buidling skills, otherwise you would be a more known creator.
How could you talk about logic noone used before, if you havent played all levels. The trick isnt to make complex logic for a simple task. The trick is to make simple logic for a complex task.

Lets see what your level looks like, if you finished it and wearing the crown.

Trust me, my level will be cool. But I doubt it will win. This is gonna be fun. So far I've basically only completed the battling logic. And it's pretty cool. Today i'm trying to get my character sprites done and the level icon done. When it's finished, I hope that some people enjoy the level. Unless it's too laggy, in which I am afraid of.

Edit:

Sadly, the reason why I am not a well known creator, is because I never get inspired to build an epic level. But this contest is making me put all of my skills into it. And hopefully, it's gonna be awesome. I haven't even started the level, only the battling. And that is alot of work to do.

@Ba2ti, see, here's where you're wrong about me. I may not be known as an MM PICK creator, even though I do have an MM PICK pin, earned legitimately. Why I'm considered still unknown and under-rated is because I don't normally work on my own moon, I spend most my talents helping my friends with their MM PICKED levels. Thus why you'll see my name in tons of MM PICKED game's credits, because I put my work into them. As for the Complex logic thing.... My logic looks very simple, takes little to no thermo at all, yet does very complex, variest and flexible things. So yeah, I've done the "Trick".

For example, I'm sure you know of Comphermc, supposedly a Grand Master at Logic among other things. Well, what if I tell you that his logicwork is over exaggerated, greatly. I can decrease the size of his "Health/Damage" logic by 75%, not only does it can do Exactly what his does, but it's Flexible, while his is static, all the while, saving tons more thermo. Don't look at the things published on my moon and think to yourself, "Oh, LoVeRiCe doesn't even have anything decent, yet talks big." The thing is, all my cool stuff hasn't been published yet... You'll see my games on the MM PICKED list soon.

Well, I couldn't be doing this without someone else, my brother. He is the art designer, as I am terrible at pixel art. I'm the logic creator. Without him, my character would look like a mutated monkey.

@LoVeRiCe

You say that on my profile, i'm not offended at all, The last thing i have published using logic was months/years ago. I am probably in the top 90% by now. And I tell you this, the levels I have published now aren't even close to what I can do now. I don't publish half my things. Just saying, im not offended by what you said.

Nevermind that, I just think that my new level will tear the rest of my levels in half. Goodluck to you and everyone else.

I would actually like to meet Comphermc. Maybe do some online play would do the trick.

Anyway, I'm almost out of the dungeons. I placed a time machine there, but there is a time tunnel in between the past and future. I'm getting better at making platforming elements (like the grab 'n' ride ceilings, inner wheel, popping out bounce pads etc), and I'm using some in my level.

Eh, let's forget that whole thing. We're both smart. I think you're level will be cool. Cant wait to see it, and I hope you try my level. I might play everyones level! (PS3) and goodluck to everyone.

I met him once.... But I was kicked like a few seconds after joining. Never got a word in. (At that time i never knew him)

I feel kinda bad saying that to LoVeRiCe, although I don't think I was rude... I guess that's just me.

Lol, it wouldn't be an LBPC contest without a pseudo-entry from someone...

Pseudo-entry!? I think you're describing everyone else's.

I did have an idea for an adventure game-ish level, but juggling two levels and school doesn't work out well for me (thanks motivation issues!). Since it'd require both a Vita and a PS3 (not cross control!) it wouldn't qualify anyway, so whatevs.

Maybe I'm a bit naive here, but there's probably more emphasis on logic than there needs to be. Sure, logic's important, but your levels can't fall back on that if everything else sucks. Good design, fun, and originality should come first. I rather play a fun level with average logic than a tedious level with great logic. Most people don't use LBP primarily for "programming" (no that's what actual programming is for), so there's no need to go around bragging to others how great you are and how everyone else's logic is inferior. That goes against the spirit of the competition. Is a crown really worth that much?

But that's all irrelevant because I'm clearly going to win. But you're welcome to attempt.

I totally agree with you bonner, Gameplay, Fun Factor and Replayability always comes first when creating a game. Which is why I haven't abandon that aspect, only to enhance them with deeper Gameplay by means of better logic knowledge. I have Visuals that are nice, but I keep them to a minimal as to not lag the game and I will have hundreds of stuff onscreen at any given time, but thanks to the small yet complex logic I've created, the game can handle that stress. As for Replayability, the reason for the Unique Gameplay Mechanics, RPG elements and Combo System I've integrated to encourage people to play again to experience, play a different style and maybe try to topple the leaderboards. So logic knowledge does help too.2013-03-12 04:10:00

I hate to say this, but you guys are making me feel less confident about my creation. Even though I have a fun level with some comedy aspects, good visuals, and epic music, I don't know if it will be enough. Hopefully you guys will like it

Anyways, just updating about my progress so far. I have nearly completed the first time zone (it's in 2189, by the way.) I have picked out my music, I have designed the time machine, I have worked out the cameras, I have made the time travel sequence, I have thought about my description, I have done some of the speech...need I go on? I'm just waiting for inspiration for the 2013 time zone...where should it be? A cave? A recreation of an original LittleBigPlanet level? Maybe I should make it so you assassinate yourself playing the level in real time, that would be cool. I honestly have no idea yet.

That crown...it will serve as my motivation to make an award-winning level and VANQUISH EVIL!

Well, poo that!

Here's a little glimpse of my level's logic. If you can figure out what it does then you probably have a good idea of what the level is like.
The level is based off a microchip I designed-It's called the 5 Second Signal Recorder and it looks like this:

http://i1.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/2e12ca88d5eb4ab0abea0050dcbc38598b722311.jpg

This is what its circuit board looks like:

http://i3.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/53384cc7100fa786494cddd1558cf187e6d85e21.jpg

This is what each microchip's circuit board looks like:

http://i8.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/b38be4ccb281be1266ccc3d7b441c74ffdafeed0.jpg

And this is how many of them I am using:

http://i5.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/2753558fb4ec2a60c6bdc2a97b526e391b3595f9.jpg

My original design for my entry was just a bunch of pictures of logic but spoilsport bonner here thinks "Logic does not necessarily equal goodness" so apparently I have to make gameplay based off it.

You stole my level!!! Let's just say great minds think alike.

So, looks like you're quite ahead of me. That's great, then you can tell me what my future looks like (besides me failing to meet the deadline). I'm investing a lot of time in efficiency/optimalising because I'm worried about the thermo/framerate. How bad is yours?

If you've been inspired to create something you're proud of, that's a "win" for you and for us. The crown is bonus for whom ever wins the contest, but everyone who gets inspired here is successful in my book.

Sure, it's fine for any creator to show off a little, and self confidence is a good thing. If showcasing crosses over to intimidation or putting down other creators, that's a sign of lacking confidence and probably an indication that it's time to talk less and work more on the level.
In the end, everyone's level has to speak for itself
