Please, suggest me some Mecha/Mech Anime series

Archive: 7 posts

I've always watched anime...I like it lots. However, I never actually saw a mech anime... About 5 episodes of Gundam Wing, but they talked so much I just couldn't take it anymore. Not that I'm asking for constant, mindless action, but I just found it so...boring. Anyway, what would be a good series in your opinion?2009-01-22 05:06:00

I haven't had the chance to check it out myself but I've heard a lot of my friends speak of Evangelion. I looked at some images of it and I don't know if those suits actually qualify as being called "mechs" but they certainly look like they are.

Something to consider...

Code Geass, and Gundam 00 are the only 2 I ever really liked. You might want to try those out.

Gundam 00 is better than Code Geass imo, but that's because some of the drama in CG turns me off. Their both good, watch them.

Hmmm... Mech anime where they DON'T talk a lot? I thought that was one of the hallmarks of the genre.

Let me go through my collection and point out some good mech anime...

Fafner (it's like Evangelion)
Gasaraki (one that has some very realistic mech depictions, but a lot of talking)
Martian Successor Nadesico (a bit more light hearted)
Raxephon (another one like Evangelion)
Zoids (some say it's a children show - plenty of mech action)
Any of the Gundam series (they are famous for their deep plots as well as mechs)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (mech action but with a lot of plot)
Robotech or it's Japanese name Macross

If you are looking for a game with mech action, I recommend the underrated Dynasty Warriors: Gundam on the PS3. It's a great way of showing mech battles, both from the individual aces fighting against each other and the one mech vs 1000 angle. You can unlock extremely detailed mech models which you can rotate in 3D for reference purposes. I hear the sequel to this is coming in just a few months.

There are plenty more, but those are some of the better ones that I own.

I don't like this kind of stuff.
However, I Zone of the Enders 1 & 2 on PS2 is a game of a Mech Anime and it is handled brilliantly. The gameplay is amazing, and the story is on par with awesomeness of MGS4.
ZoE1 cutscenes are normal graphical cutscenes, but the second game has Anime Cartoon cutscenes.

Chances are you've already played it if you're into that kind of thing, but just suggesting it for if you haven't.

here's a trailer:
