Advanced Top Down Space Shooter.

Well hello there Little Big Community. It's me Archon453! I doubt any of you have heard of me. >,< Well as it sits I am currently working on a Top-Down Space shooter. The camera itself is really in a 3rd person perspective, the level is pretty highly detailed pertaining to the characters and monsters etc. Well time to cut to the chase. It's a work in Progress, I've been working on it for about 2 or 3 days now. thermometer is sitting at about 1/4 to 1/5. With loads of room for expansion on the maps. I have only two enemies thus far. The first is a four legged monster, when damaged, it will resort to ranged attacks and flee attacking you from the shadows. They normally come in swarms and the logic permits them as such. Damage one in the front of the swarm, it will find it's way to the back to attack from a range. - Known as "Stalkers" The second of my monsters, is what I call a "Brute". It's an over sized beast, capable of tearing your life apart. It's obviously stronger than the Stalkers, but by only double the life of one. To kill the monsters, you must tear apart the limbs, by shooting them. I wanted to make a nice HUD (Heads up display). But had felt that numbered life, and ammo just take up a bit too much room. So, I have built my HUD into my character. When you change weapons, a hologram is projected from the characters forearm, and it displays the ammo that will be used, indicating what you will be shooting. The ammo spins in a circle. The controls are up to debate. But some nice things about the movement are the ability to sprint. But this ability is taken away when your life gets to a critical state. So don't get cornered! I've really had the most help so far from people testing the level and giving slight ideas of what I should add or not add. In the end, I'm making this level for my own enjoyment, with what I like in games. So all ideas will be taken into consideration, but may not be placed in the level. Only three ammo types have been created so far. A machine gun, a higher powered energy shot, and lastly an arc orb. The arc orb has to charge every time after being fired, which takes 15 seconds. The other guns have an infinite supply of ammo (which is up to debate) and take only three seconds to reload. You get 45 shots with the machine gun. 10 with the energy shot, and one with the arc orb. But reloading them is as easy as pressing square. And the arc orb auto reloads. On to more of the HUD. On the gun there is a sensor which shows if an enemy is in front of your gun. This is helpful as it can help some players, and just adds to the feel of the game. Still to be added, is a display on the helmet, possible night vision or something to that effect. I'm still thinking it all through. It may just be a proximity sensor. Multiplayer is up to debate. It will be determined after the brunt of the logic is finished. If anyone cares to try the level, just message me on PSN or add me. : Archon453. I will upload pics of the level shortly. Displaying the HUD and the creatures. If anyone care's to help with creation, also just let me know. Thanks! Well so far it sounds pretty interesting. I couldn't really see anything in the pics though. They were all really dark so it was hard for me to see. I'm curious about the stalkers though. I'm impressed by their logic and how they move to the back after being wounded. But what happens if they all get wounded? Do they just keep trying to move back from each other? Or do they scatter? Also do you plan on having a upgrade system? Like you can buy or find bigger magazines/clips/whatever the arc uses? Or maybe include faster reload or longer sprint? Or maybe even perks like you can sprint when health is low? I'm not suggesting you implement these I was just curious if you had thought of that. | 2013-02-23 02:46:00 Author: Dfw86 Posts: 138 |
Dat sounds really good! I like games like these, but heed this; in multiplayer your camera will may be a lil bit laggy. If u can solve this your level seems to become a great one But, erm ... i dont wanna critisize too much, but ... well, in my personal opinion the lighting environment seems to be a lil bit toooo dark, doesn't it? Maybe u could add some fog to keep the dangerouse atmosphere. just an suggestion Anyways, hope we will hear about your level again soon, good luck! | 2013-02-23 10:44:00 Author: Shaggy Vinci Posts: 969 |
Well as it currently sat, I was thinking of dead space. For most of what I had come up with. Also the lighting is being worked on, it's difficult when you want a level to remain dark, use materials which reflect light like metals, and have the level look good. Foggy lights do work, which I may be taking another look at, it's really just trying to find the right balance. Foggy lighting takes away from detail, where as other forms of lighting cause it to be too dark. So, that will be something to be juggled with a bit until it all turns out working and looking fine. The stalkers themselves, have a scatter logic built in. It's to prevent them from smashing into each other, it works just fine. If you wound them all, they will be found usually in the corners or against the walls, which is good because those places are usually pretty dark. As for an upgrade system, I hadn't thought about it yet, I doubt it would be really difficult. Faster reloads would be nice, but I don't even think they would need to be changed. I might make some sorts of life upgrades, possibility of upgrades which will have application to the in-game. Something like a 3D map which can be projected and rotated, with objectives and a level layout all displayed. But yes, I had thought about some of these things. I was considering going to a numbered life system, I have already made them before, and the ability to run out of ammo was also a possibility. So a shop of some sort could be in place for this. EDIT: In multiplayer the camera will be rather tough. It's because of the camera angles, I'll have to reduce the range and do some testing, so i hope it works out. Yes the lighting issue is being addressed. But, if you ever feel like dropping by, any of you, you have my PSN. I'd love to work with other creators and see some of their ideas, maybe even help with any projects anyone else might have. | 2013-02-23 19:35:00 Author: Archon453 Posts: 142 |
Thisis a piece of art- It does look spectacular, and this could only be the beginning for it, I will be happy t help if you require logic help at all, but to be honest it looks like you have nailed it just about when it comes to visuals. Like I said happy to help, send a message or friend request to aliencory or LethalPenguin (Dont mind which ) | 2013-02-23 21:29:00 Author: Awesome_Guy Posts: 167 |
Well either works for me. Sounds great! I'll be sure to send you an invite and allow your expertise with the level. I feel like making it an open level for the community to work on as a whole, really a community project if you will. Anyone who likes the idea, and the concept will be allowed to contribute. If of course their ideas are within reason pertaining to the level. EDIT: Just out of curiosity is it lethalpenguin? Or lethalpenguin98? | 2013-02-24 03:03:00 Author: Archon453 Posts: 142 |
