Mario Kart DS tracks (5)

Archive: 35 posts

Hey everyone, since I just found this site, I'm going to kill 5 birds with 1 stone and showcase all 5 of my faithful recreations of Mario Kart DS tracks.

Luigi's Mansion (https://karting.lbp.me/v/1nwh) [UPDATE]
From the Mushroom Cup; Luigi's Mansion was my first attempt in LBPK, but I completely remade it. It's much more similar to the MKDS track now with some influence from the MK7 version. I made the trees all dead and even some 3D dead trees, added some lightning, the swamp is a muddy brown texture, I have walking 3D trees, and a 3D Boo too. It also includes my Advanced Mario Kart weapons, item boxes that disappear (usually) when you drive into them, and coins that act as respawning Score Bubbles.

The start line:

The mansion:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521341/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521343/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521345/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521347/data.jpg

The tunnel:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521349/data.jpg

The graveyard:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521351/data.jpg

The swamp:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/521353/data.jpg

Goodies: Mario Kart Sign 3D, Boo Ghost, Boo paintings, Chandelier, Tombstone, Dead Trees, Dead Forest Border, Walking Tree.

Delfino Square (https://karting.lbp.me/v/96jh) [UPDATE]
From the Flower Cup; a recreation of Delfino Square. I tried my best to replicate everything as close as possible. In the update, I added my Advanced Mario Kart weapons and item boxes, replaced score bubbles with score coins, and made minor visual changes (like the Sackboy statue).

The start line and gate:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535301/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535303/data.jpg

The plaza and clock-tower:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535307/data.jpg

Back alley streets:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535309/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535311/data.jpg

The marketplace. There's a couple shortcuts to be found here:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535313/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535315/data.jpg

If you have a boost, take the alley shortcut:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535317/data.jpg

The drawbridge:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/535319/data.jpg

Goodies: Mario Kart Banner Sign, Nintendo Sign, Colored Triangle Flags, Clothesline.

Peach Gardens (https://karting.lbp.me/v/8wwl) [UPDATE]
From the Special Cup; a recreation of Peach Gardens. Keep a watch out for Chain Chomps, keep an eye out for some mini-shortcuts, and keep in mind that driving in the flower beds will slow you down. In the update, I added my Advanced Mario Kart weapons, replaced score bubbles with score coins, and made minor visual changes (like the start sign).

The start line:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/525983/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526023/data.jpg

The fountain:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526021/data.jpg

Don't forget to take the shortcut:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526025/data.jpg

The hedge-mazes. Watch out for Chain-Chomps:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526027/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/525993/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526029/data.jpg

Watch out for the gophers:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/428912/data.jpg

Goodies: Mario Kart Sign 3D, Brick Wall, Chain Chomp, and Gopher.

Bowser's Castle (https://karting.lbp.me/v/1nwh) [UPDATE]
From the Special Cup; a recreation of Bowser's Castle. This was my 2nd track, but I gave it a complete makeover to make it much more similar to the MKDS track. Among the various little details I added to make it look nicer, I made the castle entrance a 3D sculpture of Bowser's head and I have Thromps that change facial expressions when you get close to them. It also includes my Advanced Mario Kart weapons, item boxes that disappear (usually) when you drive into them, and coins that act as respawning Score Bubbles.

The start line and Castle Entrance:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534029/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534031/data.jpg

Main Hall Thromps:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534033/data.jpg

Watch out for the flames! There are 2 paths to take in the Rotating Room:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534035/data.jpg

More Thromps:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534037/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534323/data.jpg

Going up the Furnace Tower:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534043/data.jpg

If you fall off, you have to go the longer way:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534045/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534047/data.jpg

The Moving Platforms:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/534049/data.jpg

Goodies: Mario Kart 3D Sign, Bowser Entrance Statue, and Thromp.

Rainbow Road (https://karting.lbp.me/v/53wt)
The last in the Special Cup, this was my 3rd attempt. This track was difficult (impossible?) to recreate. I made it as close as I could.

The start line:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/428872/data.jpg

Ride the boosts going up the spiral:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/428870/data.jpg

The loop doesn't actually function, so I placed bounce pads to launch you up and onto the other side instead:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/428868/data.jpg

Watch out for sharp turns with no railings:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/428864/data.jpg

Grapple the star to get across:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/428860/data.jpg

Goodies: Star

- Fake Item Box: Causes spin-out when hit.
- Mushroom Boost (x1 an x3 versions): Short speed boost.
- Super Star: Long speed boost and invincibility.

(Note: Rainbow Road has not been updated with all these weapons yet.)

I hope everyone enjoys these track recreations. If you have any recommendations, I can certainly consider it. I was at one point going to do Airship Fortress, but Puppethand666 did a fine recreation of that one already.

I'm sorry, but what's the point of making all these Mario levels? :|

I don't want to be mean, I believe that they are awesome and I like the screenies already, but I think that's quite unoriginal. There is already a bunch of Mario levels to find on lbp.me. Recreating things from a game so that I can play it again on another game? It's like making Minecraft levels or Bomb Survivals. Is this a new trend of LBPK?

For a couple reasons. First, I've been doing these to learn my way around the editor/toolset while I plan my own original level. Each track has been a useful learning experience for me, as I'm new to both LBP and MNR. Second, I can no longer play Mario Kart DS online, due to the archaic WEP only wi-fi. It also gives me a single hub to play some of my favorite tracks. Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road at least, have not been redone by Nintendo in later Mario Karts. Bowser's Castle also wasn't even playable online in the DS version for some reason.

Well, those are some good reasons.

Can't wait for your own, "original" level.

I just finished yet another MKDS track. I did this track because it gave me some practice with moving objects and transmitters. It also has never had online before, since it was absent from online play in Mario Kart DS. So here is...

Tick-Tock Clock (https://karting.lbp.me/v/9fm2) [UPDATE]
From the Star Cup; a recreation of Tick-Tock Clock. There are lots of moving objects/obstacles that will change direction over time (by lap 2). UPDATE v2.0: I added my Advanced Mario Kart Weapons, Score Coins, and disappearing Item Boxes.

The start line:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526147/data.jpg

The big clock. Watch out for the hands:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526149/data.jpg

Watch out for the Pendulum:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526151/data.jpg

The gears change directions each lap:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526153/data.jpg

The small clock:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526155/data.jpg

Get a boost from riding the gear moving forward:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526157/data.jpg

Goodies: Pendulum

So anyway, for my first original creation, I am planning to do something with mine carts.

I actually enjoy playing these because the AI doesn't glitch out and because they aren't extremely long or confusing.
Just wish I had more people to play these with.

catsand, my brother and I are looking for people to play with ... is your SEN just catsand? Looking forward to Tick Tock Clock, that was a favourite of mine on MarioKart DS. Luigi's Mansion was a bit dark and could do with lighting up in the hallways ... oh and Delfino Square was awesome A lot of impressive work, regardless of whether they are original or not. My first (and only) track is also a recreation. It just helps you get used to the features of the game before you start devising your own stuff doesn't it?2013-02-24 22:12:00

Luigi's Mansion was my first attempt in this game. I would probably do things a bit different, having learned the track editor a bit better now. I could probably find a way to get the track placement much more accurate, make the trees all dead, change the swamp texture from the camo fabric to a more muddy texture (like the shortcut in my Delfino Square), improve the lighting conditions, add weather effects and lightning, and just make it much more accurate looking altogether.

If I did this, not sure how I should implement it. Should I just overwrite my old one with such drastic changes? This way I could keep my Likes and Hearts. I could still republish the old one if people want. I dislike how updating completely resets your player count though. (The score resetting is understandable).

Also, I am game if you guys want someone to play with too.

I played your track recently too, Cirrus. I never played Motorstorm, so I can't speak for how good of a recreation it was, but I did play it several times until I was satisfied with my time.

Well, while working on my new track, I started experimenting with some water effects and made a waterfall. I've also been experimenting with some weapons for my new track and went back and Improved all the Mario Kart weapons. So it just made sense to go ahead and make...

Yoshi Falls (https://karting.lbp.me/v/a1j6) [UPDATE]
I wanted to add more trees, but was fighting with the thermometer to get everything included. For some reason, I've noticed if you play this online, the Blooper and Lightning weapons appear twice on 1 person. This seems to be a bug/glitch with the game. Update v2.0: Added Item Boxes and Score Coins.

The start line:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/468660/data.jpg

Take the bridge or cross through the water, but be careful, the water could push you off the edge:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532425/data.jpg

https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532429/data.jpg

Get weapons by crossing through the water:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532431/data.jpg

Or get a boost from the ramp:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532445/data.jpg

More boosts:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532435/data.jpg

The giant Yoshi Egg:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532437/data.jpg

Blooper (Loss of control):
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/468674/data.jpg

Lightning Bolt (Slow):
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/532427/data.jpg

New Super Star:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/468680/data.jpg

Goodies: Palm Tree, White Mario Kart sign, Mario SP sign, Yoshi Eggs sign, Rope Fencing, Yoshi Egg Fence sign, and Yoshi Egg.

So here's a breakdown on my Advanced Mario Kart weapons:

Weapons:
- Banana Peel (x1 or x3 version)
- Bomb Omb (x1 or x3 version)
- Bullet Bill
- Fake Item Box
- Mushroom Boost (x1 or x3 version)
- Super Star
- Green Shell (x1 or x3 version)
- Red Shell (x1 or x3 version)
- Blue Shell
- Lightning Bolt
- Blooper

Weapon Changes from the old ones:
- Bananas cause you to slip, not spin out.
- Green Shells are now green, not teal. They can bounce off walls several times now.
- Blue Shells have spikes and nicer looking wings.
- Added a Mushroom Short Boost. There is a x3 version as well.
- Super Star now makes you saturated in rainbow colors and is one long boost, not three short ones.
- Bullet Bill uses Auto-Pilot and is smaller in size so you can actually see.
- Fixed rate of fire with Red Shells. AI can no longer fire all 3 at once.
- Added Lightning Bolt. Inspired by ArgorokX's storm cloud in Sky Temple Ruins, I made the Mario cloud fire lightning which causes everyone in front of you to drive slow briefly.
- Added Blooper. Blooper shoots blobs of ink at everyone in front of you, causing them to lose control briefly.

with people making levels as detailed as this, why is the game pretty much dead to play? i got it yesterday and saw about 10 people, is there some secret to the matchmaking?

i've queued some of my favourite remakes, tbh i always preferred CTR to Mariokart, and i never liked the original Luigi's Mansion Track despite it's popularity. Looking forwards to rainbow road

This game didn't do all that great I guess, which is why it went on sale so cheap recently. Blame Sony and their non-existent advertising except for their AAA franchises. And then getting average reviews from people like Greg Miller that wanted MNR2 instead. I'm sure people that do own it probably play it the most during dry spells. For example, Tomb Raider and God of War: Ascension just came out, so maybe people are playing that instead right now.

If you play any of the LBPC Picks or any of the top rated levels, you shouldn't have any trouble finding people, but I think people get tired of playing those and other levels struggle to get exposure because its a needle in a haystack situation, so people get bored with the game.

I meant to release this last month the weekend Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon came out, but I was hospitalized for a few days at the time and then later when I did finish it, had a reoccurring PS3 crashing bug in the track that I couldn't figure out the cause of until now.

Luigi's Mansion (https://karting.lbp.me/v/1nwh)
From the Mushroom Cup; this was my first attempt in LBPK, but I completely remade it. It's much more similar to the MKDS track now with some influence from the MK7 version. Tevious you made some of the best remakes in my opinion (Tick Tock Clock and Peach Gardens), you are really good with the editor level. I think I didn't try your Luigi's Mansion Level yet (I'll do), but also I can't wait to play original content from you ! Please do some !2013-04-21 16:54:00

I still have a concept I'm working on involving a mine cart track with some inspiration from Indiana Jones and Donkey Kong Country. I got a bit sidetracked with it after designing weapons and improving the Mario Kart weapons. I'm going to quickly go back and update my Mario Kart tracks, but Luigi's Mansion needed a complete overhaul since it was my first attempt. It was holding me back for a month because the track would keep freezing up my PS3 and it took me a while to figure out the cause of it. Apparently, having the front doors of the mansion and the graveyard gate open when a player was near was too much for it to handle with all the other detail I had.

I had another concept I thought of doing, but just saw that someone already kind of did it with the Jurassic Park track. I would have done it a little different, such as having shaking trees, cows, and no dinosaurs that show up on the first lap so people would be like, "You do have dinosaurs on this dinosaur tour, right?".

If anyone is interested in using my Advanced Mario Kart weapons, you might want to check out...

Palm Shore (https://karting.lbp.me/v/a62y)
This is a recreation of the Palm Shore Battle Arena in Mario Kart DS. The ocean level rises and falls during the battle. Driving in shallow water will make you drive slow. It includes all the Advanced Mario Kart weapons I made/changed and has prize bubbles for all of them. Additionally, you can get my disappearing Item Boxes and Coins. I made this a while ago around the same time as Yoshi Falls, but forgot to post it here.

Included weapons:
- Banana Peel (x1 an x3 versions)
- Bomb Omb (x1 an x3 versions)
- Bullet Bill
- Fake Item Box
- Mushroom Boost (x1 an x3 versions)
- Super Star
- Green Shell (x1 an x3 versions)
- Red Shell (x1 an x3 versions)
- Blue Shell
- Lightning Bolt (Versus and Arena versions)
- Blooper (Versus and Arena versions)

https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/526297/data.jpg

On another note, I've gone through and updated many of my older tracks to include my Advanced Mario Kart weapons, Item Boxes, and Coins.

Finished: Luigi's Mansion, Peach Gardens, Tick-Tock Clock, & Yoshi Falls
Not Finished: Bowser's Castle, Rainbow Road, & Delfino Square

Currently I am doing a major update to Bowser's Castle and I got some really awesome Thromps made for it. I'll get back to work on my own original track soon, but first I want the tracks I already did to be consistent and about the same quality.

I finished my big update for...

Bowser's Castle (https://karting.lbp.me/v/1nwh)
From the Special Cup; this is a recreation of Bowser's Castle from MKDS.

Watch out for the flames! There are 2 paths to take in the Rotating Room:

More Thromps:

If you fall off, you have to go the longer way:

Goodies: Mario Kart 3D Sign, Bowser Entrance Statue, and Thromp.

Compare to the Old Version:

The respawning can be a bit glitched occasionally, and I have no idea how to fix it. Sometimes it will respawn people near the end of the track after the moving platforms. If anyone has any advice on how to fix that, let me know.

Anyway, next to update is Rainbow Road.

[EDIT]
Finished updating Delfino Square too.

Question: Would anyone like me to publish Time Trials of any of my tracks? (With only 3 speed boosts and no AI) And if so, which ones? (I imagine people would want one for Tick-Tock Clock.)

Also does anyone have any suggestions on how I should handle the loops in my update for Rainbow Road?

@theIronHorse: What's wrong with Mojook's Khalamari Desert? I thought it was pretty accurate, except for the signs. I'm not sure I'll do any MK64 recreations. Other people have done most of them already since the game is perhaps the most popular. I liked MKDS the best and its gotten very little love (for remakes) except from me and Puppethand666. I also am remaking these MKDS tracks because the original game can't be played online anymore without switching my router to WEP. Some MKDS tracks I'm interested in doing someday are Desert Hills, Cheep Cheep Beach, Wario Stadium, DK Pass, and Waluigi Pinball (if possible... idk. The thermometer might get full halfway through if I tried). I probably would have done Airship Fortress if Puppethand666 didn't.

Because Moojook deleted their Kalimari* Desert so now all that is published are two cruddy ones D: And with the new improved version of the track that was released with Maro Kart 7, I thought it would be close enough to MKDS (MK3DS) 2013-05-07 15:22:00

Mojook hasn't deleted his Kalamari Desert (https://karting.lbp.me/v/qur) track. I looked it up just to make sure. Mojook probably hasn't even played this game in the last 6th months.

Anyway, I've altered my concept for my original mine cart track to be a more western style track. I plan on having a small town, a railroad and tunnel, a cemetery, and then an abandoned mine at the end. So it will be sort of like Kalamari Desert, since it will have a train in the desert.

Really? Oh yay- I can never find it Guess I'll just try looking harder.....and now I am going to be monitoring your posts like a hawk. :kz:

EDIT: If you want, I could find a way to give you my train pieces that I was going to make my LBPK Western Train simulator with.

You should be able to use the link I posted for Kalamari Desert from my last post and queue it from there and then heart it so you can find it again easily. I think it should at the top of the Cool Levels list though, if I recall correctly (with 5k Likes and 4.7k Hearts).

And sure, I can possibly use your train pieces. You can contact me on PSN (same ID as here). I guess either you can set up a track with the necessary prize bubbles or have a copyable track with them. If you don't want other people to use it, we can arrange a time, so you can take it down once I get it. And if I use it, I'll be sure to give you a thanks in the description.

All right, I'll just publish a copyable track, and then you can just take which pieces you want- but beware- each carriage is 1-3 pieces. I'll PM your PSN with stuff later when I'm on my PS3

EDIT: Sorry for not messaging you the details :3 I sorta forgot....but I'll try my best to do it next time I'm on!

I did another one last weekend while waiting for those train pieces, lol. So here is...

Desert Hills (https://karting.lbp.me/v/bnzx)
From the Flower Cup; a recreation of Desert Hills from MKDS. Comes complete with the Angry Sun and Pokeys.

The start line:

The Oasis. I added a ramp here that you can use to jump the pyramid:

Fortress Walls:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/544327/data.jpg

Watch out for the Pokeys! Every time they get hit, they loose a body part temporarily:

Beware of Angry Sun's bouncing fireballs:
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/544331/data.jpg
https://lbpk-production.s3.amazonaws.com/player_creations/544333/data.jpg

Goodies: Angry Sun, Pokey, Brown Block Border, Mario Kart Start Sign, and Irrigation Pipes.

I put up a Time Trial version of Luigi's Mansion too, if anyone wants to try and set a record or beat mine, lol. I've also been working on my original track too. I did a lot of layout planning and designed some really cool horses (3 colors) as custom karts for my track.

Really? I haven't received anything o_o maybe I'll check again just in-case......but if I don't find it I'll just publish a basic track with all the parts- I honestly don't care if other people have a chance of getting them 2013-05-19 16:55:00
