A different kind of alien adventure.

I am proud to present Xenomooch (https://vita.lbp.me/v/b7b4x), a completely touch-based experience that doesn’t take itself all that seriously. It’s hard to say exactly what this level is, but you can think of it as an interactive movie or maybe an LBP-style digital graphic novel. Throw in a sprinkle of choose-your-own-adventure, add a dash of point-and-click, throw in a heaping bucketful of dialog, drop in a puzzle or two, and that’s pretty much it in a nutshell.

Exploration is encouraged but not required. If you have headphones, wear ‘em. I’d hate for you to miss out on the complete absurd audio experience that goes along with absurd visual experience. There is also a memorizer-based chapter select system built into the level, so that on subsequent replays (i.e., for achievement hunting) you can skip cutscenes or jump straight to any part of the level that you like.

What was that about achievements? Well it just so happens there are a few to collect, and finding them all will unlock a bit of bonus content. Enjoy!

Stubbornly refuse to go down the dark hallway.Chapter 3: Look at the tire in Sarge’s Space Marine Service 15 times. Chapter 4: Deliver coffee to Garcia in under a minute. Glad to have been able to play this as you made it.
It's amazing but you already knew I thought that.

Anyways gonna copy and paste my post from your project thread here, just to make sure you see it all.
"
Hey there Taff, despite having played thru the openning of your level probably a dozen times already, here I am playing it again, just to you know, get the whole story straight thru.

One thing I noticed though, you have back touch enabled, so I keep seeing that stupid green circle appear over your finely crafted level. I don't recall retouch ever being used in your level (unless you added it to the last new section I never got a chance to test out), so you might want to turn off the rear touch option, so that stupid green circle won't pop up.

Just a suggestion!

(by the way, the level got it's first heart, and it was from me. )

Another bit of feedback : This time about the part I never got to beta test.
The logic puzzle on hard actually took me a little bit of time.
What would be a nice option is to move left and right not only while the logic goggles are off, but also while they are ON.
Not really something you HAVE to do, but it'd be nice, and make following the 'lines' of your logic a little easier."

Really though Taff, it's amazing. You did a fantastic job. I said it earlier, and I'll say it again. If this doesn't get a team pick, I'll eat my shorts.

Glad to have been able to play this as you made it. And I'm glad to have made it while you were playing it! Your feedback (along with all the beta testers) was unbelievably beneficial - I really owe it to all of you for being such a help. :hero:

Just a suggestion! Ah yes, I did see that! I might as well copy/paste my answer here too.

The reason rear touch is enabled is because of my hint system. No, you don't actually use rear touch for anything, but touching the question mark activates touch sensors and makes the various touchable objects/areas glow. I didn't want to enable front touchability for those objects, because it interfered with the rest of my touch-based logic and sort of made the whole system gag. So, the touch sensors use rear touch for the glow effect BUT if I disable rear touch they won't glow any more! Argh.

I have an idea for a potential workaround, but so far it's been one of those back burner sorts of things. Now that the level is published though I'm going to see if I can't fix the issue.

(by the way, the level got it's first heart, and it was from me. )Thanks!

I did actually look into that as well, but didn't move forward with it as I figured the player would still need to be looking around for clues anyway. Although if you've already found the clue... Hm. Ok, something for me to work on then.

Gheeze... what's this thing? Seems kinda touchy for a level.

Oh.. I guess I should play it someday. First part seems familiar for some reason.

Congrats on the Team Pick Taffey, did not see that coming...whoever does these is really on the ball!

Anyone that plays this and doesn't get a chuckle in at least a couple of places is dead inside (or can't read English). I greatly enjoyed my time with this eclectic cast of misfits. The environments and vehicles are all beautifully made (as clearly evident from your photos) and every nook and cranny is packed with that special Taffey brand of humor.

Hey Tom k, you already know my thoughts on this level after my beta testing, haut wanted to say how VERY happy I am Simon Picked it yay!!!

As for the rear touch green circle, why not use a sticker for the rear touch symbol, ad make it REALLY small so you can't see it...couldn't be simpler

Hmm... I got stuck when trying it a bit ago. Got to the point of looking around for clues and to turn on generator and nothing would work once I proceeded into this other room.

Congrats on the pick!

It's not possible to disable rear touch for a level and without wreaking havoc with basic touch detection (Unless the last patch fixed something which I doubt).

when i logged in to test your level last night, i saw you had just published it unlocked and there were zero plays, so i decided to be the first. by the time i finished, someone had played it and finished before me... aha but you know me, i look everywhere
congrats on the well deserved pick. loved the humor. and the overall plot. nice work. you know, a cool level would be something about people drooling in space!!!

Wow! Not only is this an amazing level, but it holds the record for fastest Team Pick ever!

I'm so glad you let me Beta test this. It was fun to play it as you were still building it, and it was really cool to see you change things that I recommended. And seeing my name in the credits was nice.

So congratulations on the Team Pick! I bet you a million dollars that we'll see this at the top of the "most hearted ever" list very soon. (Okay, maybe not very soon, but you know what I mean).

I hope we see a number two!

I'm amazed you can even stand to look at it after all the times I made you replay it. You helped me figure out a LOT of things in this level.

Hey Tom k, you already know my thoughts on this level after my beta testing, haut wanted to say how VERY happy I am Simon Picked it yay!!!Thanks Simon! It seems all people named Simon are on top of things. Many thanks for all your help and invaluable feedback! Unfortunately I wasn't able to implement a chicken hunt but hey, nobody's perfect.

As for the rear touch green circle, why not use a sticker for the rear touch symbol, ad make it REALLY small so you can't see it...couldn't be simpler Interesting suggestion - I hadn't thought of that. I will add that to my list of things to mess with as I look for a viable workaround.

For the time being though, I can only recommend that people keep their mitts off the rear touch pad! Either that or just live with the little green circle. Perhaps give it a name? How about Dale the Green Circle? Hello Dale! How are you today? No, I wouldn't like to move anything around, thank you very much. Would you mind terribly just sitting in that corner there while I play this level? Thanks Dale!

Something like that. 8)

Congrats on the pick! Oh no! That should be impossible...... Thought I had cracked that. What room was it, and do you remember what you did to get there? I will assume that all on-screen prompts like the touch icon and arrows had disappeared, correct?

Stop finding broken stuff, will ya?

When I am to go to reroute the power for the elevator, enable the elevator and look for clues. The next room has two arrows. (where the glowing special effects are and the hint has you push the one on the right) If I proceed from there to the right it locks up.

When I replayed I tried the hint and when back to get yelled at and even then got stuck before I even tried to hit the arrow to go to the right. I was just hitting stuff thinking there was something else.

Yeah.. everything goes blank such as touch arrows and ? for the hint. The back screen cursor still worked, but I was stuck and could not go anywhere or select anything.

Has happened all 3 times I have tried it. The 2nd and 3rd were using the chapter selectors.

Has happened all 3 times I have tried it. The 2nd and 3rd were using the chapter selectors.Bizarre. So all of the rooms are tied to one big selector, as are the waypoints for each room. If one room has been disabled (e.g., the one you're in) that means another room (and thus its waypoint) MUST have been activated. What you are seeing means that somehow the selector is outputting no signal at all, which has me baffled.

I'll look into it and see if I can replicate the bug. I suppose the good (?) news is that I haven't heard of anybody else encountering the same exact bug, so perhaps it's a glitch when the level loaded, kind of like how sometimes the music won't work.

Thanks for the info!

Congratulations with Team pick, Taffey!

You created a unique level - an interactive adventure. I loved it as soon as you read about it on this forum and looked at the first photos. Knowing your previous work, I was looking forward to opportunities to try out your new creation. Thank you, that put me in the beta testers list . It was fun and very interesting.

Quality of your creation has made me sigh with envy as I have neither the time nor the inspiration for such a large creature.

You perfectly combined an interesting story, great decorations, quest's gameplay and your own trademark inimitable humor. The result was a great adventure. Plus your created several excellent logic mini games, that can have big popularity as an separate levels

I already played your level's final version several times and downloaded it for future fun!

Thanks for this Masterpiece! I know that your very tired with it, but I hope to see some new levels from your in near future! You are rock!

Could it be that my memorizer has fouled info from a pre release test version? Not sure if attempting to dump it and start over might help. That's possible I suppose, but there aren't any memorizers wired into that particular part of the level. Definitely worth trying though.

I did notice on the level there is one other comment where someone mentions a similar problem. It seems like a rare-ish logic glitch type of issue, now if only I can work out how to compensate for it.

Lol, in related news, there is a new level called "xenoomooch mini level" (he spelt xenomooch wrong) by some guy that just got published. The description is funny. I cant play it though because it wont let only 1 player play.

Your work is already inspiring others, Taffey!

EDIT: I figured out how to play it in one player mode, and when you finish the level, it goes to the actual xenomooch. Is that really allowed?

Thanks everyone for playing! I can't tell you all what a thrill this is to have the level so warmly received... and Team Picked!! My brain still isn't sure what to do with that information. Exciting stuff!

I started this whole thing as a silly idea that I thought would be fun to build (and it was!) but I had many doubts about whether or not people would like the format. As the saying goes, I'd rather be lucky than good.

I never tested this portion either, but even after dumping the memory it still glitches on me at the same place. Really weird. I spent most of the evening looking into this, and as far as I can tell it's impossible for that to break. The logic is extremely simple for that function - a touch sensor connected to a selector connected to a tag that the sackbot will follow, nothing more than that. There are a lot of decorations and other things going on in that area and the game is slightly laggy right there (although it's not obvious given the format of this level), so my only guess is that your Vita and/or particular download of the level has freaked out in some unique and unpredictable way. It has me completely stumped.

I had a similar-ish odd glitch a couple months ago working on the apartment scene where half of the touch sensors decided they didn't want to work unless I placed the level entrance closer to the camera zone. Weirdness.

The only thing I can think to do is send you an old build of that section (which already contains the logic) to see if that works for you or not.

What exactly do you mean by "everything goes blank"...are you just talking about the HUD elements disappearing? Just brainstorming about what you might have done differently from me...

- Are you always using the ? hint...I never tried it in part 3 and never touched the rear touch screen.
- Did you also download the level to your Vita...I've only played off the server.
- Do you happen to have any fingers resting on the rear touch pad when you are playing?

I'll try replaying if you have some suggestions on what I can try...

Just brainstorming about what you might have done differently from me...Yeah, he means the HUD elements - we figured that out via PM late yesterday. That is by design so that the HUD shuts off while the sackbot walks to the next screen. (Actually what's happening is that the selector switches the HUD to the next screen but you just can't see it until the sackbot activates the next camera zone.)

The thing that appears to be happening is that something is blocking the sackbot walking to the next waypoint. This could be another tag being broadcast at the same time (should be impossible), something interfering with the sackbot's pathfinding algorithm (my guess, despite there being no obstacles), or the selector simply not activating the next tag (also should be impossible). All awareness radii are set at infinite - I double checked that already just to be sure.

Thats an insanely good level.

I remembered on that Podcast u said u rarely ever laugh out loud in lbp levels... u maybe grin or smile about things.. but no lolz.

Well, its the same for me, but in your level i actually had to laugh out loud (not really loud).. the humor kinda reminded me of old lucas arts point and click adventures.

The ongoing dialog if u click on the tire = epic, the lolcat talk, the scene in the cockpit, wow its so good presented...

I honestly have no more words for it... its just as perfect as a point and touch adventure could be.... i could write a wall of text here on how good this level is, and u may like that, but well lets just call it perfect in every aspect thinkable, and its cool i guess.

Sorry for my bad English
Well, from the moment you start playing, you start to enjoy the wonder of level. This level is unique, different from all. An interactive movie! All, in absolute is very, very well done. <3 I realize that you love to create levels about the space (Star Bores, Space Corps, This...) and as is typical, these are amazing!.
The level made me laugh a lot, have very funny jokes, even the credits are funny! everything is funny!
You used very well the 3d layer glitch, you have created scenarios magnificent!
Good job Sir. Taffey! And congratulations on the team pick, very well deserved!

Wow, I just can't believe the steady stream of praise for this one... Thank you all! And to think I thought this level was kind of a dumb idea way back when. haha

In other news, I've published an update that fixes the bug in the colony hallway where the HUD was causing people to get "locked out" and unable to complete the level. Apologies to everyone who experienced this issue!

Oh my... I'm so sorry I couldn't made it to the final round of BETA testing before this was actually published. Blame PlayStationAllStars Battle-Royale, it has been draining my time in ways that not even math can explain. Anyway, the least I could do for you right now (specially for including my name in a... Team Pick?!'s credits -by the way, I told you this was getting picked from the BETA's very first round jeje-) is to leave my review! With so many useful commets here I doubt it really stands out any imperfections in this absolutely brilliant level, but here it is anyway:

INTRODUCTION

Usually what you'd dislike about looong levels is that you eventually lose interest for them. Even with fancy save functions people tend to play the first chapter(s) and leave to never return. HA! This is FAR not the case. With brilliant gameplay mechanics, awesome and LOL-able story, great characters, settings, animations, logic, puzzles, OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE BEST LEVEL EVAH I LUV YOU! So yeah.

LEVEL

As I already said in the presentation, this is just the perfect mix for all kind of players. Beautiful and charming humour was excellently developed, making it the exact opposite to a boring experience. Man, even though its 35 mins. long I swear there was no time I felt not even slightly bored. Even the instructions were freaking hilarious!

I have to mention the spectacular use of the 3D glitch. It fits the level OH SO WELL! That glitch was created for this kind of levels. Not necessarily heavy-gameplay, but more puzzle and cinematic oriented.
Another thing I absolutely admire from this is the amount of content it has. You could touch the same object again and again and get lots of different speech bubbles. I must admit I didn't really felt like playing "another game", but in this case it isn't bad at all. The amount of originality and fresh feeling in this is overwhelming.

I'd love to leave a deeper review but right now its about 00:00 a.m. in the morning so I better go!

LAST COMMENTS:

-Even though I think this level is near perfection, I was thinking... As this is a Team Pick I can assure you're its getting thousands of plays from people all over the world. And even though English isn't my mother tongue I spend such a ridiculous amount of time in forums and chats that I had no problems understanding the LOLCAT beautiful grammar, and the Nazi-grammar-killer-spelling of the Sackbot; but I guess it could be a really painful lecture for people that just doesn't know English too well. Anyway, on the other hand, you shouldn't change the dialogue at all. I don't have a really clear solution for the problem, maybe a button for disabling some of that nasty writing? You know, for the LOLCAT-hearing impaired.

-Man I loved the dialogues.

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg495/yugnar/0e8cc762035f2c14efe2e64bdc70fa47_zps4722eca2.jpg

-I had to mention this. I totally loved this reference XD

http://i1240.photobucket.com/albums/gg495/yugnar/c3cc17b1821f0edcbcfd207f527f2596_zpsa80f07f1.jpg

-And last but not least I really wanted to thank you for the mention at the credits! Little as my contribution was for the testing, I really hoped it helped modelling what has become one of my favorite LBP levels ever.

P.D. No F4F needed I wanted to leave this review because the level deserved it. I don't have anything new at my Vita Earth lately anyway. If you can check my Christmas level out or something it'd be nice though

Oh Taffey, you make it so hard to leave feedback because there's basically nothing bad to say about your levels or criticism to give you! But as a spotlighter you do make my life a lot easier by creating levels like this

I'm not going to mention the amazing touch based puzzles and jokes and general awesomeness because everyone else already has. You know this level rocks because it's been team=picked and you already have 3 pages of feedback!! What I will say is I love how your levels are so.... personalized! I come straight in and I just know it's a Taffey level, the humour, the visuals and the sci-fi theme you own this sort of thing!!

Bow down to king of the fart noises!!

I am desperately overdue to reply to all of the excellent feedback everyone has posted in this thread. Time for me to get to work!

Your fix worked!! yay!! I was able to finish! Thanks so much!

Loved the logic puzzle. Cute and funny story to boot. Fantastic job! Very proud to have been able to help test.

Congrats again on the pick! Well deserved! ..I guess using that touch screen IS a good thing. Hmmmm lolAnd a big thanks to you as well - boy am I glad to have been able to isolate that particular bug. I still don't even understand how it was possible but hey, it's finally crossed off the list.

With so many useful commets here I doubt it really stands out any imperfections in this absolutely brilliant level, but here it is anyway: Wowzers! Now THAT's some properly handled feedback - thanks!! Great stuff yugnar.

Usually what you'd dislike about looong levels is that you eventually lose interest for them. Even with fancy save functions people tend to play the first chapter(s) and leave to never return. HA! This is FAR not the case.I was actually worried people would think it was too short. haha I think somehow my sense of time has been broken.

OH MY GOSH THIS IS THE BEST LEVEL EVAH I LUV YOU! So yeah. And we all luv u too. Especially Xeno.

I have to mention the spectacular use of the 3D glitch. It fits the level OH SO WELL! That glitch was created for this kind of levels. This was my first ever level with the 3D glitch. It really did make for a LOT of extra work... but with that said I do really like how the set pieces turned out. I may be hooked.

I guess it could be a really painful lecture for people that just doesn't know English too well. Anyway, on the other hand, you shouldn't change the dialogue at all. I don't have a really clear solution for the problem, maybe a button for disabling some of that nasty writing? You know, for the LOLCAT-hearing impaired. Haha lolcat closed captioning maybe? :3 You're right about all of the dialog in English though - a lot of the reviews on lbp.me say the same thing. I wish there was an easy way to localize it... It might be a fun exercise to try and publish versions in other languages - assuming I can get someone to help me translate.

-And last but not least I really wanted to thank you for the mention at the credits! Little as my contribution was for the testing, I really hoped it helped modelling what has become one of my favorite LBP levels ever. I felt it was the least I could do for all of those PMs I spammed you with. Your contribution, as was everyone's, was significant! Just having other people take a look at things is very reassuring, if nothing else. Definitely a key ingredient to publishing a level.

I wanted to leave this review because the level deserved it. I don't have anything new at my Vita Earth lately anyway. If you can check my Christmas level out or something it'd be nice though I think that can be arranged. 8)

Oh Taffey, you make it so hard to leave feedback because there's basically nothing bad to say about your levels or criticism to give you! But as a spotlighter you do make my life a lot easier by creating levels like this lol Well I know how picky you guys are - I was sweating this one a bit before I published it! I was very relieved to see all of the positive opinions come rolling in, and of course I nearly fell out of my chair at the insta-team-pick.

I'm not going to mention the amazing touch based puzzles and jokes and general awesomeness because everyone else already has. You know this level rocks because it's been team=picked and you already have 3 pages of feedback!! What I will say is I love how your levels are so.... personalized! I come straight in and I just know it's a Taffey level, the humour, the visuals and the sci-fi theme you own this sort of thing!!Well gosh, you do know how to make a girl blush.... I mean guy. Make a guy blush.

Bow down to king of the fart noises!!
<3 and a for you
and of course a creator <3 because I know more stuff this awesome will appear on your earthLOL Thanks Coxy! I do indeed hope to have some more stuff like this out soon. There is a work in progress happening right now... It's many months away from anything concrete but ground has certainly been broken.

This is sooo funny! I laughed a lot! So no redundant compliments, but a simple thank you very much for this masterpiece! Thanks for the feedback! ...and you're welcome! I'm very glad you got a giggle or two out of it.
