Archive: 11 posts

I can help people who have really complex triggering problems that they need help on like how would you create... I don't know you think of it and post it here and I will get to work on the solution and publish it as a copyable level so you can see it and how it works. I just want to help as many sack people as I can so little big planet can become a better place.2009-01-22 00:11:00

how would you make a tracking system? What I mean by this is a system that would find out where you are and just say emit something in that direction. Thanks in advance2009-01-28 01:12:00

LordCanti, I'm sorry for stealing your first request for help... but seeing as I've made something that does exactly what SuperYuper has asked for...

A day and night type of switch, I don't get it 100%, I know how it works on a speed ( right? ) switch, I just don't know how it's done. Any information will do to, just simplify it for me, or a copy level would work too, which ever is easier for you. Thanks once again.2009-01-28 06:02:00

Alright so as far as I know you cant change the actual lighting section of your map with a trigger unless I haven't downloaded a patch or something. The only thing I could think to do wouldn't involve triggers at all if thats the case though. The only way I could see to do it with the things that we can do now is to make our own backgrounds and just change them from day to night as the character progresses through the level or if you did want to change it for the entire level the only other thing I could recommend would be to have a giant background that has a few different looks like day dusk night and dawn. This will involve 4 mag key switches, a circular rotating block with a mag key on the end somewhere, and 4 emitters. The circular block would rotate slowly passing each area emitting a large backdrop but you would have to make sure the other one disappeared before the new one spawned.

Plan B: I just thought of this while thinking of the other way. Instead of having a massive backdrop. Your just need 4 rather large ones. Each one has an emiiter in the vertical center far right edge. This will emit the next backdrop which will be the previous cycle of the day. Then the timer will emit the next backdrop then disappear before it is overwritten itself before the previous one. This would merely involve tweaking the life span of each to a certain length of time and tweaking the rate to that time-.01. You would have to make sure that each backdrop is the exact same size, that the emitter was in the exact same location on each and that they spawned the next cycle right next to the current one. Then your level would handle the time of day by itself and it would be so realistic. I will try and make a copyable level so you can see for yourself. This has got me excited Whaale and I hope I am able to do Plan B. But that must wait till tommorow for I have to sleep now.

If there is a way to change the actual lighting option of a level with a trigger than tell me because as far as I know only MM has access to that so far.

I was kind of talking about this, I don't get how this person did it, exactly, I have an idea but not enough for me to actually understand and make one.

Well he explains it lol. This man is quite genious. Apparently when you set a sensor to speed and hook it to a light, it will change the brightness of that light. So he had a mag switch at one location and the mag key that would follow the player as he moved. As the mag key got further from the switch the lights would be brighter. The speed switch makes it so when something gets closer to something else it will speed up. That is why only mag switches and sensors can do it.

Then at the other end of the level he had a player tracker that was already away from the mag switch so it started off bright and as the player got to closer to the mag switch it got darker.

The lights just have to be tweaked correctly and I think he had them set to shadows. The sun's where just work of invisible pistons. All in all bloody good show.

Then there is the dark matter thing where the tiniest of dark matter is invisible.

I'd offer to help, but my triggering/switch skills are pretty basic right now. :/2009-01-29 15:31:00
