How the first ruler was created??

| I mean... How the first ruler was created, if before the first ruler exists there wasn't someting straight enought to create a ruler?? How...??? The use of thread in architecture and for plumb-lines goes back a ways. In railway alignment metal eyes are used, which are just sheets of metal with a hole in them. When placed along the track if you can see through all the holes the track is correctly aligned. | I was taught in school (probably erroneously), that historically the measurement of "1 Foot" was taken from the ruling Monarch, meaning that each time a new Monarch was coronated, they would need to recalculate the measures.
